Reproduction ecology of the recently invasive snake Hemorrhois hippocrepis on the island of Ilbiza Elba

Knowing the causes of biological invasion success can be relevant to combat future invasive *** recent invasion of the horseshoe whip snake Hemorrhois hippocrepis on the island of Ibiza provides the opportunity to compare natural history traits between invasive and source populations,and to unravel what makes this snake a successful invader that is threatening the only endemic vertebrate of the island,Podarcis *** study compares the basic reproductive traits of mainland native and invasive populations of the *** results revealed that invasive populations were characterized by female maturity at a smaller size,extended reproductive period,and much lower reproduction frequency compared to the native *** contrast,some major reproductive traits--the abdominal fat body cycle,clutch size,hatchling body size,and hatchling body condition,did not differ between the two *** of these results must reflect the environmental differences in the recently invaded island with respect to the source area,and overall plasticity of reproductive *** is evolutionarily interesting,and may aid the succesful growth of this species in their invasiveness of mediterranean islands like *** most significant finding is that this expression of phenotypic plasticity occurred rapidly in this invasive population,within a period of 14 years *** results on the reproduction ecology of the invasive population were not conclusive regarding the factors determining the invasiveness of the snake and pointed to alternative causes.

Dry etching of silicon is an essential process step for the fabrication of micro electromechancal system (mEmS). The AZ7220 positive photo-resist was used as the etching mask and silicon micro-trenches were fabricated with a multiplexed indu ctively coupled plasma (ICP) etcher. The influence of resist pattern profile, an d etch condition on sidewall roughness were investigated detail. The results sho w that the sidewall roughness of micro-trench depends on profiles of photo-resis t pattern, the initial interface between the resist bottom surface and silicon s urface heavily. The relationship between roughness and process optimization para meters are presented in the paper. The roughness of the sidewall has been decrea sed to a 20-50nm with this experiment.

Effect of plant nutrition on aphid size, prey consumption, and life history characteristics of green lacewing

Plant quality can directly and indirectly affect the third trophic level. The predation by all the instars of green lacewing, Chrysoperla carnea （S.）（Neuroptera： Chrysopidae） on the cereal aphids, Rhopalosiphum padi （L.）, and Sitobion avenae （F.） at varying nitrogen fertilizer levels was calculated under laboratory conditions. Wheat plants were grown on four nitrogen fertilizer levels and aphids were fed on these plants and subsequently offered as food to the C. carnea. Aphid densities of 10, 30, and 90 were offered to first, second, and third instar larvae of green lacewing. Increased nitrogen application improved nitrogen contents of the plants and also the body weight of cereal aphids feeding on them. Aphid consumption by green lacewings was reduced with the increase in nitrogen content in the host plants of aphids. Predation of both aphid species by first, second, and third instars larvae of C. carnea was highest on aphids reared on plants with the lowest rate of fertilization, suggesting a compensatory consumption to overcome reduced biomass （lower aphid size）. Total biomass devoured by C. carnea on all nitrogen fertilizer treatments was not statistically different. Additionally, the heavier host prey influenced by the plant nutrition had an effect on the life history characteristics of green lacewings. The larval duration, pupal weight, pupal duration, fecundity, and male and female longevity were significantly affected by the level of nitrogen fertilization to the aphid＇s host plants, except for pupal duration when fed on S. avenae. This study showed that quantity of prey supplied to the larvae affects the prey consumption and thereafter the life history characteristics of green lacewings.

mosques have intermittent operational schedules with short-term occupancy during the five daily *** occupancy level of the daily prayers is a fraction compared to the mandatory Friday prayers with full ***,the same thermal control mechanism is operated within the same large prayer hall to maintain the thermal comfort of the ***,the comfort requirements are often not met due to the short span of operation during prayer ***,mosques have a very high energy usage as the same energyintensive system is operated even during minimal occupancy *** current research aims at using a passive approach towards design to achieve the comfort conditions during the low occupancy daily prayer times without employing mechanical *** simulations are carried out on a validated model of the case study building to investigate the impact of the west-facing Qiblah wall as the congregation stands in proximity to this *** design alternatives are tested in conjunction with ventilation strategies to holistically assess the thermal comfort of the *** show that as much as 4-6℃reduction in indoor wall surface temperature can be achieved with a suitable Qiblah wall design,which reduces the mean radiant temperature of the occupants by 2-4℃.Combined with ventilation strategies,thermal comfort can be significantly improved by at least 40%for the prayers during the hottest times of the day,and as much as 80%for night-time *** suggest that suitable comfort conditions can be achieved without the need for air-conditioning for at least two or three of the five daily prayers.

Efficacy of postoperative short-term therapy of topical bevacizumab in recurrent pterygium surgery

Background:The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of postoperative short-term therapy(for 2 weeks)of topical bevacizumab in recurrent pterygium surgery regarding to corneal vascularization and pterygium ***:This prospective randomized comparative study included two groups of patients with recurrent pterygium,all eyes were subjected to pterygium excision with conjunctiva auto graft,and group A(30 eyes of 30 patients)was treated with postoperative topical tobramycine and dexamethazone for 2 *** B(30 eyes of 30 patients)was treated also with postoperative topical tobramycine and dexamethazone in addition to topical bevacizumab 5 mg/mL 4 times daily for 2 ***-up of cases up to 6 months was performed recording corneal vascularization and pterygium ***:The results revealed that after 6 months,group A treated with postoperative tobramycine and dexamethazone reported 5 eyes of recurrence(16.7%)which not significantly(P=0.44726)(P>0.05)different from group B treated with the addition of topical bevacizumab which reported 3 eyes of recurrence(10%).But group B showed significantly different in decreasing corneal neovascularization than group A(P=0.000805)(Pm therapy of topical bevacizumab in recurrent pterygium surgery by conjunctiva auto graft showed lower recurrence rate but not statistically significant,But it reduced significantly corneal neovascularization.

Single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） in genes that influence development of the male reproductive tract have been associated with male genitourinary abnormalities. However, no studies have tested the relationship between SNPs and intermediate phenotypes such as anogenital distance （AGD）, anoscrotal distance （ASD） and penile width （PW）. We tested whether 24 common SNPs in eight genes that influence male genital development were associated with intermediate phenotypes in 106 healthy male infants from the Study for Future Families. We used DNA from buccal smears and linear regression models to assess the relationship between anogenital measurements and SNP genotypes with adjustment for covariates. We found that the rs2077647 G allele, located in the coding region of estrogen receptor alpha （ESR1）, was associated with a shorter AGD （P=0.02; -7.3 mm, 95% confidence interval （CI）： -11.6 to -3.1）, and the rs10475 T allele, located in the 3＇ untranslated region of activating transcription factor 3 （ATF3）, was associated with a shorter ASD （-4.3 mm, 95% Ch -7.2 to -1.4）, although this result was not significant （P=0.07） after controlling for multiple comparisons. We observed no association between PW and the SNPs tested. minor alleles for two SNPs in genes that regulate estrogen signaling during male genital development were associated with AGD and ASD, although the significance of the association was marginal. Our findings suggest that AGD and ASD are influenced by heritable factors in genes known to be associated with frank male genital abnormalities such as hvpospadias and crvotorchidism.

A new parallel monte Carlo simulation method of secondary electron (SE) and back scattered electron images (BSE) of scanning electron microscopy (SEm) for a com plex geometric structure has been developed. This paper describes briefly the si mulation method and the modification to the conventional sampling method for the step length. Industry 4.0 refers to the fourth evolution of technology development,which strives to connect people to various industries in terms of achieving their expected outcomes ***,resource management in an Industry 4.0 network is very complex and *** manage and provide suitable resources to each service,we propose a FogQSYm(Fog—Queuing system)model;it is an analytical model for Fog Applications that helps divide the application into several layers,then enables the sharing of the resources in an effective way according to the availability of memory,bandwidth,and network *** follows themarkovian queuing model that helps identify the service rates of the devices,the availability of the system,and the number of jobs in the Industry 4.0 systems,which helps applications process data with a reasonable response *** experiment is conducted using a Cloud Analyst simulator with multiple segments of datacenters in a fog application,which shows that the model helps efficiently provide the arrival resources to the appropriate services with a low response *** implementing the proposed model with different sizes of fog services in Industry 4.0 applications,FogQSYm provides a lower response time than the existing optimized response time *** should also be noted that the average response time increases when the arrival rate increases.
