The design and application of morphing systems are ongoing issues compelling the aviation *** Clean Sky-program represents the most significant aeronautical research ever launched in Europe on advanced technologies for greening next-generation *** primary purpose of the program is to develop new concepts aimed at decreasing the effects of aviation on the environment,increasing reliability,and promoting eco-friendly *** ambitions are pursued through research on enabling technologies fostering noise and gas emissions reduction,mainly by improving aircraft aerodynamic *** the Clean Sky framework,a multimodal morphing flap device was designed based on tight industrial requirements and tailored for large civil aircraft *** flap is deployed in one unique setting,and its cross section is morphed differently in take-off and landing to get the necessary extra lift for the specific flight ***,during the cruise,the tip of the flap is deflected for load control and induced drag *** manufacturing the first flap prototype,a high-speed(ma=0.3),large-scale test campaign(geometric scale factor 1:3)was deemed necessary to validate the performance improvements brought by this novel system at the aircraft *** the other hand,the geometrical scaling of the flap prototype was considered impracticable due to the unscalability of the embedded mechanisms and actuators for shape ***,a new architecture was conceived for the flap model to comply with the scaled dimensions requirements,withstand the relevant loads expected during the wind tunnel tests and emulate the shape transition capabilities of the true-scale *** strategies were developed to effectively morph the model during wind tunnel tests while ensuring the robustness of each morphed configuration and maintaining adequate stiffness levels to prevent undesirable deviations from the intended aerodynamic ***,

Can serum tumor marker densities according to tumor volume and testicle size be used to predict progression in patients with testicular cancer?

Background The objective of this study is to determine the role of tumor marker density(TmD)values such as alpha-fetoprotein tumor volume ratio(ATVr),beta-human chorionic gonadotropin tumor volume ratio(βTVr),alpha-fetoprotein testicle size ratio(ATSr),beta-human chorionic gonadotropin testicle size ratio(βTSr),lactate dehydrogenase tumor volume ratio(LTVr),and lactate dehydrogenase testicle size ratio(LTSr)in the determination of progression-free survival(PFS)in patients with testicular *** and methods A retrospective study was conducted of 95 patients followed-up in our clinic with a diagnosis of testicular cancer between January 2015 and August *** were grouped according to clinical stage,as either early stage(n=50)or advanced stage(n=45).Clinical and pathological data and TmD values for all patients were *** The median age of patients was 35 years(21–63 years).All TmDs except LTVr in advanced stage patients were found to be significantly higher than those of early stage patients(pmedian ATVr(2.58 vs.0.0),ATSr(0.63 vs.0.03),βTVr(0.9 vs.0.009),andβTSr(0.18 vs.0.007)of the nonseminoma patients were found to be significantly higher than those of the seminoma patients,respectively(progression-free survival(months)was decreased in seminoma patients with high values ofβTVr(11.3±1.9 vs.35.2±0.7),βTSr(16.2±3.4 vs.35.2±0.75),LTVr(17.7±3.4 vs.35.2±0.7),and LTSr(21.5±3.13 vs.35.09±0.8)(preased PFS(months)was associated with higher values of ATVr(5.37±0.7 vs.35.05±0.93),βTVr(7.4±1.5 vs.34.6±1.3),ATSr(5.37±0.75 vs.35.05±0.9),βTSr(7±1.5 vs.34.6±1.3),and LTSr(7.9±1.2 vs.34.3±1.5)in nonseminoma patients(pmultivariate analysis,βTVr-LTVr and ATVr-ATSr were determined to be independent risk factors for reduced PFS in seminoma and nonseminoma patients,respectively(presults of this study suggest that the calculation of TmDs could be a promising and simple method for prediction of PF

IL-2 and IL-15 Exhibit Opposing Effects on Fas mediated Apoptosis

An Investigation on the Formation of Submerged Bar Under Surges in Sandy Coastal region

Cross-shore sediment transport rate exposed to waves is very important for coastal morphology, the design of marine structures such as seawalls, jetties, breakwaters etc, and the prevention of coastal erosion and accretion due to onoff shore sediment transportation. In the present study, the experiments on cross-shore sediment transport are carried out in a laboratory wave channel with initial beach slopes of 1/8, 1/10 and 1/15. By using the regular waves with different deep-water wave steepnesses generated by a pedal-type wave generator, the geometrical characteristics of beach profiles under storm conditions and the parameters affecting on-off shore sediment transport are investigated for the beach materials with medium diameters of d50=0.25, 0.32, 0.45, 0.62 and 0.80 mm. The offshore bar geometric characteristics are the horizontal distances from the shoreline to the bar beginning （Xb）, crest （Xt）, and ending （Xs） points, the depth from the bar crest to the still water level （ht）, and the bar volume （Vbar）. The experimental results have indicated that when the deep-water steepness （Ha/L0） increased, the net movement to seaside increased. With the increasing wave steepness, the bars moved to widen herewith the vertical distances from still water level to the bar beginning （Xb）, crest （Xt） and ending （Xs） points and the horizontal distances from the coast line to the bar beginning, crest and ending points increased. It was also shown from experimental results that the horizontal distances from the bar beginning and ending points to the coast line increased with the decrease of the beach slope. The experimental results obtained from this study are compared with previous experimental work and found to be of the same magnitude as the experimental measurements and followed the expected basic trend.

The purpose of this paper is to extend some fundamental spectral properties of regular Sturm-Liouville problems to special kind discontinuous boundary value problem, which consist of a Sturm-Liouville equation with piecewise continuous potential together with eigenvalue parameter on the boundary and transmission conditions. The authors suggest their own approach for finding asymptotic approximations formulas for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of such discontinuous problems.

H pylori infection in patients with Behcet's disease

AIm:To evaluate endoscopic findings and the prevalence of H pylori in patients with Behcet's disease (BD) who have upper gastrointestinal symptoms. mETHODS:The patients with BD diagnosed according to the International Study Group and followed up in the Department of Dermatology and other related departments and who had any upper gastrointestinal complaints,were included in this study. Forty-five patients with BD and 40 patients in the control group were evaluated by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and two biopsied specimens were taken during endoscopy for H pylori . A two-week triple therapy for H pylori eradication was administered to H pylori positive patients. Two months after the treatment,the patients were evaluated by urea-breath test for eradication control. rESULTS:Patients with BD had a mean age of 36.2 ± 11.4 years (18-67 years). The mean follow-up time was 35 ± 14 mo (16-84 mo). Aphthous or deep ulcer in esophagus,stomach and duodenum had never been confirmed by endoscopic examination. most gastric lesions were gastric erosion (40%) and the most duodenal lesions were duodenitis (17.5%) in two groups. H pylori was positive in 33 patients (73.3%) with BD. The two-week triple eradication therapy was successful in 75% of the patients. There was no difference between the groups in respect to prevalence of H pylori (73.3% vs 75%,P > 0.05),and eradication rate (75% vs 70%,P > 0.05). CONCLUSION:Endoscopic findings,eradication rate and prevalence of H pylori were similar in patients withBD and control group.

monoclinic yttrium tantalate (m'-YTaO4,m'-YTO),and two different kinds of yttrium niobium-tantalate (m'-YTao.85Nbo.15O4 (m'-YTNO) and Eu3+ doped m'-YTao.85Nbo.15O4 (m'-YTNO∶Eu3+)) were produced by sol-gel method and grown on single crystalline Si (100) substrate by spin coating *** properties and thermal behaviours of the films were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XrD),atomic force microscopy (AFm),scanning electron microscopy (SEm),and thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA).Systematic Steady-state photoluminescence and lifetime measurements in a series of yttrium niobium-tantalate with varying amounts of Eu3+ were *** photoluminescence spectra of the films exhibited strong blue (380-400 nm) and red (614 nm) emissions upon ultraviolet *** intensities were strongly dependent on the host lattice composition and film morphology.1.5％ Eu3+ doped films exhibited the brightest luminescence and long lifetime extending to 1.22 ms when excited at 254 *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first attempt in the production of m'-YTO,m'-YTNO,and m'-YTNO∶Eu3+ films on single crystalline Si (100) substrate via sol-gel spin coating.

Statistical analysis of geomagnetic field variations during the partial solar eclipse on 2011 January 4 in Turkey

Some geophysical parameters, such as those related to gravitation and the geomagnetic field, could change during solar eclipses. In order to observe geomagnetic fluctuations, geomagnetic measurements were carded out in a limited time frame during the partial solar eclipse that occurred on 2011 January 4 and was observed in Canakkale and Ankara, Turkey. Additionally, records of the geomagnetic field spanning 24 hours, obtained from another observatory （in Iznik, Turkey）, were also analyzed to check for any peculiar variations. In the data processing stage, a polynomial fit, following the application of a running average routine, was applied to the geomagnetic field data sets. Geomagnetic field data sets indicated there was a characteristic decrease at the beginning of the solar eclipse and this decrease can be well-correlated with previous geomagnetic field measurements that were taken during the total solar eclipse that was observed in Turkey on 2006 march 29. The behavior of the geomagnetic field is also consistent with previous observations in the literature. As a result of these analyses, it can be suggested that eclipses can cause a shielding effect on the geomagnetic field of the Earth.
