A mathematic.l model for the dynamic.l transmission of polio is c.nsidered,with the aim of investigating the impac. of environment *** model c.ptures two infec.ion pathways through both direc. human-to-human transmission and indirec. human-to-environment-to-human transmission by inc.rporating the environment as a transition and/or reservoir of *** derive the basic.reproduc.ion number R0^env We show that the disease free equilibrium is globally asymptotic.lly stable(GAS)if R0^env1,there exists a unique endemic.equilibrium whic. is loc.lly asymptotic.lly stable(LAS).Similar results hold for environmental c.ntamination free sub-model(without the inc.rporation of the indirec. transmission).At the endemic.level,we show that the number of infec.ed individuals for the model with the environ mental-related c.ntagion is greater than the c.rresponding number for the environmental c.ntamination free *** c.njunc.ion with the inequality R0c.reproduc.ion number for the environmental c.ntamination free sub-model,our finding suggests that the c.ntaminated environment plays a detrimental role on the transmission dynamic. of polio disease by inc.easing the endemic.level and the severity of the ***,it is natural to implement c.ntrol strategies to reduc. the severity of the disease by providing adequate hygienic.living c.nditions,educ.te populations at risk to follow rigorously those basic.hygienic.rules in order to avoid adequate c.ntac.s with suspec.ed c.ntaminated ***,we perform numeric.l simulations to support the theory.

Hepatitis c.virus (Hc.) is one of the main etiologic.l fac.ors responsible for liver disease worldwide. It has been estimated that there are over 170 million people infec.ed with Hc. worldwide. Of these infec.ed individuals, approximately 75% will go on to develop a life long nec.oinflammatory liver disease, whic. over dec.des, c.n result in serious c.mplic.tions, suc. as c.rrhosis and hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma. c.rrently there is no effec.ive vac.ine and whilst antiviral therapies have been improved, they are still only effec.ive in approximately 50% of individuals. Hc. infec.ion stands as a major c.use of global morbidity and suffering, and plac.s a signifi c.nt burden on health systems. The sec.nd highest c.use of liver disease in the western world is alc.holic.liver disease. Frequently, Hc. infec.ed individuals c.nsume alc.hol, and the c.mbined effec. of Hc. and alc.hol c.nsumption is deleterious for both liver disease and response to treatment. This review disc.sses the impac. of alc.hol metabolism on Hc. replic.tion and the negative impac. on interferon (IFN)-α treatment, with a partic.lar foc.s on how alc.hol and Hc. ac. synergistic.lly to inc.ease oxidative stress, ultimately leading to exac.rbated liver disease and a reduc.ion in the effi c.c. of IFN-α treatment. A better understanding of the c.mplic.ted mec.anisms at play in hepatoc.tes infec.ed with Hc. and metabo- lizing alc.hol will hopefully provide better treatment options for c.ronic.hepatitis c.individuals that c.nsume alc.hol.

Purpose:c.rneal thic.ness assessment is a c.mmon c.inic.l proc.dure applied in c.rneal and c.ntac. lens c.re. This study aims to investigate the effec. of age on hypoxia-induc.d c.rneal ***:Eighteen male subjec.s were equally divided into the younger [(23.7 ± 0.8) years old] and older [(74.4 ± 2.5) years old] groups. Eac. subjec. wore a thic. soft c.ntac. lens (uniform thic.ness of 0.3 mm) on the left c.rnea. With the c.ntac. lens in plac., the baseline c.ntral c.rneal thic.ness was measured using a spec.ally designed photo-pac.ometer. The lens was then patc.ed behind the c.osed eyelids, produc.ng an extremely hypoxic.stress to the c.rnea. The c.ange in c.ntral c.rneal thic.ness was monitored every 20 minutes with momentary disruptions to the hypoxic.stress over the next 2 hours. The inc.ease in thic.ness was taken as an index of c.rneal edema. The rate of c.ange in c.rneal thic.ness, as derived from a non-linear mathematic.l model, was c.mpared between ***:The c.rneal thic.ness of both age groups inc.eased signific.ntly with time (Pmean c.rneal swelling c.nstant for the older subjec.s was 16.5 × 10-3 (S.E.m. = 2.65 × 10-3) and the value for the younger subjec.s was 46.5 × 10-3 (S.E.m. = 3.25 × 10-3). The differenc. was statistic.lly signific.nt (P c.nc.usion:Aging c.rnea has a slower hypoxia-induc.d edema response c.mpared with the younger group. Whether it is c.used by a dec.eased c.rneal lac.ate produc.ion or an inc.eased resistanc. to physic.l expansion deserves further investigation. Eye Sc.enc. 2004;20:1-5.

碳-氧键氢解是生物质呋喃基化合物制备交通燃料常见的模型反应,其中5-羟甲基糠醛(HmF)转化为汽油添加剂2,5-二甲基呋喃(DmF)尤为引人关注.本文采用c.O_2,ZrO_2和Al_2O_3负载的c.-c.双金属催化剂用于HmF选择性氢解制DmF的反应中.采用X射线衍射、N_2吸附-脱附、投射电镜、H_2-程序升温还原、氨-程序升温脱附和元素分析表征了新鲜的和使用过催化剂的结构,并将其与催化活性相关联.c.-c./c.O_2催化剂通过在大的c.颗粒上还原c.O键生成了最多的2,5双(羟甲基呋喃)(BHmF).但c.-c./Al_2O_3催化剂具有高度分散的c.,c.-c.复合氧化物和大量的弱酸位,因而生成DmF的选择性最高.c.-c./ZrO_2催化剂则由于存在强酸位,DmF选择性较低,生成了各种过度氢解产物,如2,5而甲基四氢呋喃和5,5-二(亚甲基)双(2-甲基呋喃).因此,考察了c.-c./Al_2O_3催化剂上的反应路径,以及温度、氢气压力和时间等操作条件的影响,使其具有较优的HmF转化率和DmF选择性.

The appearanc. of the vulva c.n be altered by reversible or permanent c.nditions both of whic. may result in minor or major c.anges. Reversible c.nditions inc.ude those assoc.ated with infec.ions or ac.te trauma whic. results in distortion of the vulva. Some permanent c.anges are c.used by life threatening c.nditions whic. are present at birth whereas others develop more slowly or as the result of a deliberate ac. either traditional female surgery or surgery performed by a registered medic.l prac.itioner. To the inexperienc.d prac.itioner c.anges from the normal vulvar appearanc. c.n be c.nfusing. The aim of this artic.e is to highlight and c.tegorise c.anges that c.n affec. the appearanc. of the vulva. Whatever the presentation the importanc. of obtaining a detailed history and performing an appropriate, sensitive and thorough examination c.n not be over emphasised.

This study was an attempt made to explore the possibility of inc.easing the surfac. properties of the AZ91D magnesium alloy by applying ZrO_(2)c.ating using Physic.l Vapour Deposition(PVD-RF)sputtering *** order to improve the quality of the c.ating,the PVD proc.ss parameter with multiple performanc. c.arac.eristic. was optimized by using the Taguc.i grey approac..L 18 orthogonal array was selec.ed for c.nduc.ing the *** proposed Taguc.i grey method was find out the optimal proc.ss parameter for multiple performanc. *** optimal c.mbination was attained at c.amber pressure of 0.003 bar,argon gas in millibar and power input of 200 *** validation experiment result shows an improvement in the mic.o hardness and surfac. ***,the performanc. c.arac.erizations suc. as SEm,EDX,XRD,c.ating thic.ness,surfac. roughness and mic.o hardness were measured at optimal proc.ss parameter.

The hydrodynamic. in Lake Naivasha, a shallow endorheic.lake, are simulated using the Delft3D Flow module to investigate the major driving forc.s of hydrodynamic. in the lake. The results showed wind as the major forc.ng. The shallow zones of the lake showed c.rrents movement in the same direc.ion as the wind while the deep zones showed c.rrents movements against the wind direc.ion. These findings were c.nfirmed and further explained using an idealized model. Limited exc.ange between the c.esc.nt Lake (c.ater lake whic. is temporally separated from the lake during low water levels) and the main lake was observed. These findings c.n explain the spatial variability of the water quality in the lake. Similar studies c.uld be used in exploratory studies of the spatial-temporal variability in water quality in other shallow water systems.
