Optimization of N18 Zirconium Alloy for Fuel Cladding of Water Reactors

In order to optimize the microstructure and composition of N18 zirconium alloy （Zr-1Sn-0.35Nb-0.35Fe-0.1Cr, in mass fraction, %）, which was developed in China in 1990s, the effect of microstructure and composition variation on the corrosion resistance of the N18 alloy has been investigated. The autoclave corrosion tests were carried out in super heated steam at 400 ~C/10.3 mPa, in deionized water or lithiated water with 0.01 mol/L LiOH at 360 ~C/18.6 mPa. The exposure time lasted for 300-550 days according to the test temperature. The results show that the microstructure with a fine and uniform distribution of second phase particles （SPPs）, and the decrease of Sn content from 1% （in mass fraction, the same as follows） to 0.8% are of benefit to improving the corrosion resistance; It is detrimental to the corrosion resistance if no Cr addition. The addition of Nb content with upper limit （0.35%） is beneficial to improving the corrosion resistance. The addition of Cu less than 0.1% shows no remarkable influence upon the corrosion resistance for N18 alloy. Comparing the corrosion resistance of the optimized N18 with other commercial zirconium alloys, such as Zircaloy-4, ZIRLO, E635 and Ell0, the former shows superior corrosion resistance in all autoclave testing conditions mentioned above. Although the data of the corrosion resistance as fuel cladding for high burn-up has not been obtained yet, it is believed that the optimized N18 alloy is promising for the candidate of fuel cladding materials as high burn-up fuel assemblies. Based on the theory that the microstructural evolution of oxide layer during corrosion process will affect the corrosion resistance of zirconium alloys, the improvement of corrosion resistance of the N18 alloy by obtaining the microstructure with nano-size and uniform distribution of SPPs, and by decreasing the content of Sn and maintaining the content of Cr is discussed.

Classification of electroencephalogram(EEG)signals for humans can be achieved via artificial intelligence(AI)***,the EEG signals associated with seizure epilepsy can be detected to distinguish between epileptic and non-epileptic *** this perspective,an automated AI technique with a digital processing method can be used to improve these *** paper proposes two classifiers:long short-term memory(LSTm)and support vector machine(SVm)for the classification of seizure and non-seizure EEG *** classifiers are applied to a public dataset,namely the University of Bonn,which consists of 2 classes–seizure and *** addition,a fast Walsh-Hadamard Transform(FWHT)technique is implemented to analyze the EEG signals within the recurrence space of the ***,Hadamard coefficients of the EEG signals are obtained via the ***,the FWHT is contributed to generate an efficient derivation of seizure EEG recordings from non-seizure EEG ***,a k-fold cross-validation technique is applied to validate the performance of the proposed *** LSTm classifier provides the best performance,with a testing accuracy of 99.00%.The training and testing loss rates for the LSTm are 0.0029 and 0.0602,respectively,while the weighted average precision,recall,and F1-score for the LSTm are 99.00%.The results of the SVm classifier in terms of accuracy,sensitivity,and specificity reached 91%,93.52%,and 91.3%,*** computational time consumed for the training of the LSTm and SVm is 2000 and 2500 s,*** results show that the LSTm classifier provides better performance than SVm in the classification of EEG ***,the proposed classifiers provide high classification accuracy compared to previously published classifiers.

In the Large Helical Device （LHD）, two different divertor configurations, i.e. helical divertor （HD） and local island divertor （LID）, are utilized to control the edge plasma. The HD with two X-points is an intrinsic divertor for heliotron devices, accompanied with a relatively thick ergodic layer outside the confinement region. Edge and divertor plasma behavior from low density to high density regimes is presented, referring to the divertor detachment. The effect of the ergodic layer on the edge transport is also discussed. On the other hand, the LID is an advanced divertor concept which realizes a high pumping efficiency by the combination of an externally induced magnetic island and a closed pumping system. Experimental results to confirm the fundamental divertor performance of the LID are presented.

The present study compared eight breeds of cattle differing in gender （heifers, buls and steers） to determine associations between muscle characteristics and meat sensory qualities of theLongissimus thoracis muscle. Animal types differed in al the muscle characteristics and sensory qualities. many correlations among muscle characteristics and among sensory qualities were consistent for most animal types. Isocitrate dehydrogenase （ICDH） activities alowed discrimination of muscles with respect to myosin heavy chain （myHC）-I proportions for al animal types. Lactate dehydrogenase （LDH） and phos-phofructokinase （PFk） activities were positively correlated for most animal types. Overal liking was correlated with beef lfavour and abnormal lfavour in al animal types and with global tenderness for al animal types except for Charolais cross breed steers. For al animal types except for Angus×Friesian heifers, beef lfavour and abnormal lfavour were negatively correlated. Overal liking was not correlated with juiciness. PFk, ICDH and citrate synthase （CS） activities were strongly associated with tenderness, beef lfavour and overal liking when average values for al animal types were used. However, associations between muscle characteristics and sensory qualities within animal types were weak and inconsistent.

The effect of solid-solution-treatment on the semisolid microstructure of Zn-22Al with developed dendrites was investigated. Forming Zn-22Al products by semisolid metal processing offers significant advantages, such as reductions in macro-segregation, porosity and forming costs. Thermal and rnicrostructural analyses of the formed Zn-22Al alloy were performed by differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy. The changes in the microstructures and phase transformation in response to various solid- solution-treatments were analysed. In this study, as-cast samples were held isothermally at 330 ℃ for 0.5- 5 h and then partially remelted at a semisolid temperature of 438 ℃ for 1 h to produce a solid-globular grain structure in a liquid matrix. A non-dendritic semisolid microstructure could not be obtained when the traditionally cast Zn 22Al alloy with developed dendrites was subjected directly to partial remelting. After solid-solution-treatment at 330 ℃, the black interdendritic eutectics were dissolved, and the dendritic structures gradually transformed into uniform β structures when the treatment time was increased. The coarsened and merged dendrites were separated as a result of penetration by the liquid phase and melting of the residual eutectic at sites along the former grain boundaries. The microstructure of the solid-solution- treated sample transformed into a small globular structure; the best shape factor of 0.9, corresponding to a particle size of 40 ± 16 μm, is achieved when the sample was treated for 3 h followed by direct partial remelting into its semisolid zone.

Graphene oxide has been used widely as a starting precursor for applications that cater to the needs of tunable graphene. However, the hydrophilic characteristic limits their application, especially in a hydrophobic condition. Herein, a novel non-covalent surface modification approach towards graphene oxide was conducted via a UV-induced photo-polymerization technique that involves two major routes; a UV-sensitive initiator embedded via pi-pi interactions on the graphene planar rings, and the polymerization of hydrophobic polymeric chains along the surface. The functionalized graphene oxide successfully achieved the desired hydrophobicity as it displayed the characteristic of being readily dissolved in organic solvent. Upon its addition into a polymeric solution and subjected to an electrospinning process,non-woven random nanofibers embedded with graphene oxide sheets were obtained. The prepared polymeric nanofibers were subjected to two-step thermal treatments that eventually converted the polymeric chains into a carbon-rich conductive structure. A unique morphology was observed upon the addition of the functionalized graphene oxide, whereby the sheets were embedded and intercalated within the carbon nanofibers and formed a continuous structure. This reinforcement effectively enhanced the electrochemical performance of the carbon nanofibers by recording a specific capacitance of up to 140.10 F/g at the current density of 1 A/g, which was approximately three folds more than that of pristine *** also retained the capacitance up to 96.2% after 1000 vigorous charge/discharge cycles. This functionalization technique opens up a new pathway in tuning the solubility nature of graphene oxide towards the synthesis of a graphene oxide-reinforced polymeric structure.
