This research assessed the relationship between wood physical-anatomical variables and charcoal physical-mechanical *** trees were harvested and mechanically processed into standard pieces for laboratory *** following variables were determined:wood density,fiber length and width,fiber lumen diameter and wall thickness,fiber wall fraction,and vessel *** charcoal was produced in a laboratory and gravimetric yield,relative density,and mechanical properties ***’s correlation coefficients,multivariate statistical analysis of canonical correlation,and principal component analysis were used to evaluate the relationship between wood and charcoal *** width was not significantly correlated with charcoal *** bulk density,hardness,and strength were positively correlated with wood density,fiber length,wall thickness,and wall *** properties were negatively correlated with fiber lumen diameter and vessel *** results will help identify the best wood with adequate physical-mechanical properties for industrial charcoal proces sing.

This article presents a forensic case of an unusual illegal cremation of a person using a process colloquially known as the“microwave oven”practice in *** microwave process involves two actions:placing the victim in a tire stack and then setting the structure on fire using flammable substances to accelerate the *** practice,identified as“necklacing”,has also been reported in other countries such as South *** report presents a case of microwave oven cremation of a body found in a rural area of minas Gerais,*** forensic work helped determine the biological profile and identity of the victim using radiological *** the microwave oven cremation practice is rare,it can impose challenges for ***,fully understanding this practice can be helpful to the academic and forensic communities.

In modeling fluidized bed gasification experiments,equilibrium and CFD models are valuable *** existence of multi-dimensional effects inside the reactor vessel due to the kinetics of the process and the fluid dynamics phenomena could result in deviation from the zero-dimensional *** models integrating kinetics and hydrodynamics are being developed by using a computer fluid dynamics(CFD)*** objective of this investigation is to assess and compare the adequacy of zero-dimensional and CFD approaches in modeling fluidized bed gasification regarding a semi-industrial scale(numerical results are validated under experimental runs).Results show that the zero-dimensional model based on the approach of dual stage equilibrium performs reasonably well in adequately predicting the product gas composition at different operating conditions and for different feedstocks,although with quantitative ***,the discrepancy depends on the oxygen content of the oxidation agent and on the steam-to biomass ratio decreasing when these parameters *** models provide deeper information being able to estimate the syngas composition or other operating parameter at any point of space and *** of some quantitative discrepancy,the zero-dimensional modeling approach is deemed satisfactory from the viewpoint of the determining design conditions simulation.

Study on the Attack of molten Silicates on Plasma-Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings

Thermal barrier coating (TBC) revolutionized the industry by allowing higher operating temperatures for equipment, such as gas turbines in the aeronautical industry. However, at high temperatures, the TBC is exposed to the attack of molten silicates, known as CmAS (Calcium-magnesium-Alumino-Silicate), which are particles from the environment that infiltrate the TBC, causing delamination. In this study, samples coated with TBC by thermal spray and covered with CmAS were evaluated at temperatures of 1200˚C and 1250˚C. For each temperature, exposure times of 1 h and 5 h were used. Samples with longer exposure time had a considerable volume increase. The main contribution of this work was to demonstrate the non-wettability of the CmAS, even in the 5-h heat treatments, which prevented its infiltration in the deeper regions. The conditions to guarantee the formation of the silicate and its consequent wettability are also discussed.

Disease-resistant genes play an important role in defending against a variety of pathogens and insect pests in plants. most of the disease-resistant genes encode pro- teins with conserved leucine rich repeat and nucleotide binding site domains. In this study, we cloned and char- acterized gene-resistant analogs （RGAs） from Eucalyptus grandis using degenerate PCR, with primers specifically targeting these two domains. The amplified fragments were cloned into the pGEm-T vector and transformed into Escherichia coli. Among the 90 clones obtained, 13 were sequenced and compared with each other and with previ- ously identified gene-resistant diseases. A BLASTX search in GenBank revealed high similarities among the con- served domains of these cloned genes with RGA genes. Some clones, however, showed no significant similarity with DNA sequences in GenBank. Southern blotting ana- lysis identified several polymorphic RFLP loci between distinct genotypes. However, none of them co-segregated with the Puccinia psidii Winter resistance gene 1 （Ppr1） in a population study.

Cerebral ischemia is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although stroke （a form of cerebral ischemia）-related costs are expected to reach 240.67 billion dollars by 2030, options for treatment against cerebral ischemia/stroke are limited. All therapies except anti-thrombolytics （i.e., tissue plasminogen activator） and hypothermia have failed to reduce neuronal injury, neurological deficits, and mortality rates following cerebral ischemia, which suggests that development of novel therapies again st stroke/cerebral ischemia are urgently needed. Here, we discuss the possible mechanism（s） underlying cerebral ischemia-induced brain injury, as well as current and future novel therapies （i.e., growth factors, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, melatonin, resveratrol, protein kinase C isozymes, pifithrin, hypothermia, fatty acids, sympathoplegic drugs, and stem cells） as it relates to cerebral ischemia.

The management of information systems contributes to the economic development of the construction sector by organizing and structuring technical and economic information. It is proposed how BIm (Building Information modelling) and a Portuguese information system-ProNIC (abbreviation for Protocol for the Standardization of Construction Technical Information) may be interconnected. The scope of this information transmission in construction sector is a step to solve several problems that have been identified in conception of BIm models.

Building Information modeling (BIm) is a process involving generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places, which can be exchanged or networked to support decision-making in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) sector. BIm is a relatively new technology in an industry typically slow to adopt changes, especially in Portugal. The present paper aims to frame the international implementation of BIm in order to propose a roadmap to spread the use of BIm methodologies in Portugal in the next decade.
