Herein,a physical and mathematical model of the voltage−current characteristics of a p−n heterostructure with quantum wells(QWs)is prepared using the Sah−Noyce−Shockley(SNS)recombination mechanism to show the SNS recombination rate of the correction function of the distribution of QWs in the space charge region of diode configuration.A comparison of the model voltage−current characteristics(VCCs)with the experimental ones reveals their *** technological parameters of the structure of the VCC model are determined experimentally using a nondestructive capacitive approach for determining the impurity distribution profile in the active region of the diode structure with a profile depth resolution of up to 10Å.The correction function in the expression of the recombination rate shows the possibility of determining the derivative of the VCCs of structures with QWs with a nonideality factor of up to 4.

Organosilicas with chemically immobilized 3-aminopropyl and Methyl Red-containing surface groups were prepared by sol-gel condensation of tetraethyl orthosilicate and(3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane in the presence of dye as part of the mixed micelles or dyecontaining silane as silica *** hexagonally arranged mesoporous structure of synthesized materials was confirmed by low-temperature nitrogen adsorption-desorption,xray diffraction,and TEM *** composition of MCM-41-type organosilicas was established by FT-IR spectroscopy and chemical analysis of surface *** of Methyl Red by organosilicas was studied from diluted phosphate buffer solutions in dependence of medium p H,duration of contact,and equilibrium concentration of *** was found that effective removal of Methyl Red takes place at p H values within a range of *** curves of Methyl Red sorption on organosilicas were analyzed by the Lagergren,Ho-McKey,and Weber-Morris kinetic *** was found that the pseudo-second-order model fits the kinetics of Methyl Red sorption on all synthesized materials and the intraparticle diffusion is not the only one mechanism controlling the rate of Methyl Red sorptive *** parameters of equilibrium sorption of Methyl Red on organosilicas of MCM-41 type were calculated using Langmuir,Freundlich,Redlich-peterson,and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller *** of acid dyes with geometry similar or substantially different from Methyl Red on mesoporous silicas was studied from single and binary component mixtures in aqueous solutions with p H 4.8 and *** was found that selective sorption process is highly dependent on the structural characteristics and protolytic state of silica surface as well as acid dye.

In view of increasing lead pollution(pb^(2+)) of coastal waters, the compensatory abilities of holothurians need to be assessed. The goal of the work is to clarify the functional and phenotypical differences between two types of phagocytes(p1 and p2) in Eupentacta fraudatrix exposed to pb(NO_3)_2. It has been shown that 2 mg L^(-1) lead exposure for 48 h increases the number of p2 phagocytes as compared to p1 cells, does not significantly affect cell viability in both p1 and p2 phagocyte fractions, and significantly enhances chromatin condensation in p2 but not in p1 phagocytes. A lead concentration of 4 mg L^(-1) increases the number of p1 phagocytes compared to that of p2 type, and does not change cell viability and chromatin condensation in p1 phagocytes. In the p2 type, it decreases cell viability and does not influence the level of apoptosis. The protection against lead-induced apoptosis is apparently mediated by the activities of antioxidant enzymes, especially glutathione S-transferase. The differences in labeling cell surface receptors of p1 and p2 phagocytes by plant lectins also indicate the specific phenotypic properties of these cells. The results clarify the potential and GSH-dependent mechanisms of immune adaptation in holothurians that have been shortly exposed to lead at concentrations close to the maximum environmentally relevant level in coastal waters. Additionally, p1 and p2 phagocytes are first shown to have different functions and phenotypes during the response to lead, which indicates the complexity of the phagocytic system in holothurians and contributes to understanding the immunity evolution.

Nanotubes are miniature materials with significant potential applications in nanotechnological, medical, biological and material sciences. The quest for manufacturing methods of nano-mechanical modules is in progress. For example, the application of carbon nanotubes has been extensively investigated due to the precise width control, but the precise length control remains challenging. Here we report two approaches for the one-pot self-assembly of RNA nanotubes. For the first approach, six RNA strands were used to assemble the nanotube by forming a 11 nm long hollow channel with the inner diameter of 1.7 nm and the outside diameter of 6.3 nm. For the second approach, six RNA strands were designed to hybridize with their neighboring strands by complementary base pairing and formed a nanotube with a six-helix hollow channel similar to the nanotube assembled by the first approach. The fabricated RNA nanotubes were characterized by gel electrophoresis and atomic force microscopy (AFM), confirming the formation of nanotube-shaped RNA nanostructures. Cholesterol molecules were introduced into RNA nanotubes to facilitate their incorporation into lipid bilayer. Incubation of RNA nanotube complex with the free-standing lipid bilayer membrane under applied voltage led to discrete current signatures. Addition of peptides into the sensing chamber revealed discrete steps of current blockage. polyarginine peptides with different lengths can be detected by current signatures, suggesting that the RNA-cholesterol complex holds the promise of achieving single molecule sensing of peptides.

Objective To assess the incidence and predictors of heart rhythm and conduction disturbances in hypertensive obese patients with andwithout obstructive sleep apnea （OSA）. Methods This is an open, cohort, prospective study. Out of 493 screened patients, we selected 279hypertensive, obese individuals without severe concomitant diseases： 75 patients without sleep-disordered breathing （non-SDB group）, and204 patients with OSA （OSA group）. At baseline, all patients underwent examination, including ECG, Holter ECG monitoring, and sleepstudy. During follow-up （on 3, 5, 7 and 10th years; phone calls once per 6 months）, information about new events, changes in therapy and lifestyle was collected, diagnostic procedures were performed. As the endpoints, we registered significant heart rhythm and conduction disordersas following： atrial fibrillation （AF）, ventricular tachycardia, atrioventricular block （AV） 2-3 degree, sinoatrial block, significant sinus pauses（〉 2000 ms）, and the required pacemaker implantation. Results The median follow-up was 108 （67.5-120） months. The frequency of heartrhythm disorders was higher in OSA patients （29 cases, X^2= 5.5; p = 0.019） compared to the non-SDB patients （three cases; OR： 3.92, 95%CI： 1.16-13.29）. AF was registered in 15 patients （n = 12 in OSA group; p = 0.77）. Heart conduction disturbance developed in 16 patients,without an association with the rate of coronary artery disease onset. Regression analysis showed that only hypertension duration was anindependent predictor olAF （OR： 1.10, 95% CI： 1.04-1.16; p = 0.001）. In case of heart conduction disturbances, apnea duration was thestrongest predictor （p = 0.002）. Conclusions Hypertensive obese patients with OSA demonstrate 4-fold higher incidence of heart rhythmand conduction disturbances than subjects without SDB. Hypertension duration is an independent predictor for AF development, while sleepapneaJhypopnea duration is the main factor for heart conduction disorders onset in hypertensiv

Background: postprandial hyperglycemia is an independent risk factor for diabetes-associated complications in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Dietary modification plays an important role in glycemic control. This study was to examine the efficacy of a diabetes specific formula (DSF) during a 4-hour postprandial meal tolerance test (MTT) in Russian subjects with type 2 diabetes receiving oral hypoglycemic medication. Methods: In a randomized, cross-over design, 168 eligible subjects from 11 study centers consumed, in a random order, the DSF (230 mL) or a common light hospital breakfast (i.e. standard meal) on two different occasions. The amounts of macronutrients were similar between the two meals providing ~200 kcal, 11 g protein, 26 g carbohydrate and 8 g fat. Capillary glucose levels were measured at baseline (before meal consumption), and post-meal consumption at 30, 60, 90, 120, 180 and 240 min. Results: The DSF was well tolerated in all subjects. There were 111 subjects completed the study per protocol (mean ± SEM: age: 58.6 ± 0.8 yr, BMI: 31.8 ± 0.42 kg/m2, waist circumference: 101 ± 1.3 cm, HbA1c: 8.0% ± 0.1%). Glucose levels reached peak values at 60 min (median) and the lowest levels at the end of the 240-min MTT test. The mean positive area under the curve (pAUC), the primary outcome, was significantly smaller after DSF consumption (mean ± SEM: 183.02 ± 18.74, median: 132.55) than the pAUC after consumption of the standard meal (mean ± SEM: 239.95 ± 23.11, median: 166.89;p = 0.027). The actual and adjusted peak glucose concentrations were similar between the two treatments. Conclusions: In patients with type 2 diabetes receiving oral hypoglycemic agents, compared to a hospital meal, the DSF improves postprandial glucose control. Combining results from earlier studies, long-term use of DSF may be beneficial to improve glucose management and decrease diabetes-associated complications.

The capacities of phagocytes of subpopulation p1 (F) and morula cells (MC) of holothurian Eupentacta fraudatrix to modulate apoptosis of each other as well as cytokine-dependent mechanisms and hormonal regulation of these cells’s interaction were studied. The 18-h treatment of F with supernatants, obtained after centrifugation of MC preincubated for 3 h with phosphate buffered saline (pSB) at the temperature of 22℃?(SMC3) resulted in a significant growth of apoptosis level. A 30-min incubation of F with supernatants of MC, preincubated for 24 h (SMC24), on the contrary, reduced the apoptosis level and increased the level of interleukine-1α (IL-1α)-like substances, and 24-h incubation did not influence apoptosis and reduced level of IL-1α-like substances. Thus, proapoptotic effects of MC’s supernatants in F inversely depended on time of their preincubation with pSB and directly on time of incubation with F. Additionally, this effect was opposite to variations in the level of IL-1α-like substances. The level of apoptosis declined after 30 min of incubation but elevated after 24 h at the inverse treatment of MC with supernatant, obtained after preincubation of F during 24 h (SF24). The level of IL-1α-like substances dropped after 30 min and insignificantly decreased after 24 h. Hence, SF24 proapoptotic effect directly depended on time of incubation with MC and did not correspond to variations in the level of IL-1α-like substances. 100 μM dexamethasone stimulated apoptosis in F and MC in an inverse time-dependent manner during 24-h preincubation, and supernatants of cell suspensions obtained after such preincubations, stimulated apoptosis and reduced the IL-1α-like substances level in target cells at both types of interaction. IL-1α-like substances are?supposed to be mediators for MC’s effects in F, but not for F’s action on MC. In holothurians, steroid hormones apparently may participate in the regulation of the immune response and cell cooperation.
