This study shows that submicron/nanoparticles found in bacterial cells (S. aureus) incubated with polyurethane (a material commonly used for prostheses in odontostomatology) are a consequence of biodestruction. The presence of polyurethane nanoparticles into bacterial v.sicles suggests that the internalization process occurs through endocytosis. TEM and FIB/SEM are a suitable set of correlated instruments and techniques for this multi facet inv.stigation: polyurethane particles influence the properties of S. aureus from the morpho-functional standpoint that may hav. undesirable effects on the human body. S. aureus and C. albicans are symbiotic microorganisms;it was observ.d that C. albicans has a similar interaction with polyurethane and an increment of the biodestruction capacity is expected by its mutual work with S. aureus.

Soil inv.rtebrates and heav. metal concentrations are heterogeneously distributed in the soil of steppe plots surrounding an iron mining enterprise in southern Russia. This study assesses whether patches of high soil inv.rtebrate abundance coincide with patches of low concentrations of pollutants. For this aim, spatial analysis by distance indices （SADIE） was applied. Three v.lleys in Belogorye Nature Reserv. were chosen. One v.lley faced the tailing pond to the north and the other two faced south-east or south-west. Two sampling plots were chosen in each v.lley, 60 m apart from each other. On ev.ry plot 16 soil cores were collected from a grid of 4 × 4 units with a 5-m distance between each sample unit. Each soil core had an area of 76 cm2 and was 12-15 cm deep. All macroinv.rtebrates were hand-sorted and identified to family. Abundance of soil inv.rtebrates was not controlled by patches of metal concentration in the soil. Epigaeic groups, like insects and other inv.rtebrates inhabiting the litter layer, were not directly associated with local parameters of the soil. On the contrary, belowground inv.rtebrate abundance （elaterid larv.e and earthworms） showed significant dissociation with some heav. metal （Fe, Pb, Zn） concentrations in the soil. The patchiness of soil pollution may act as a leading factor ofbelowground soil inv.rtebrate distribution. The spatial structure of animal populations in industrially transformed soils needs further research.

We examined a cohort of 93 cystic fibrosis(CF)male patients who were pancreatic-sufficient(PS-CF;n=40)or pancreatic-insufficient(PI-CF;n=53).Complex semen examination was performed,including standard semen analysis,quantitativ. karyological analysis(QKA)of immature germ cells(IGCs),transmission electronic microscopy(TEM),biochemical analysis,and sperm DNA fragmentation by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nickend labeling(TUNEL)*** was diagnosed in 83(89.2%)*** other 10(10.8%)patients were found to be nonazoospermic and showed v.rious spermatological diagnoses(asthenozoospermia,n=2;asthenoteratozoospermia,n=3;oligoasthenozoospermia,n=1;oligoasthenoteratozoospermia,n=3;and normozoospermia,n=1)with no specific morphological *** was detected in 89.2%azoospermic and 30.0%nonazoospermic *** seminal pH(v.aled in 2.4%azoospermic and 40.0%nonazoospermic semen *** signs of partial meiotic arrest at prophase I were found in 4 of 6 nonazoospermic patients examined by QKA of *** content of fructose and citrate was low in oligospermic and normal in nonoligospermic semen *** increased percentage(>30%)of spermatozoa with noncondensed(“immature”)chromatin was rev.aled in 2 of 6 nonazoospermic semen samples analyzed by TEM.

The ZnO/MgO solid samples containing the ZnO nanoparticles of controllable size were prepared using colloidal technique. The catalytic performance of the ZnO/MgO samples for the CO oxidation was measured. It was rev.aled that the rate of the CO oxidation reaction on the ZnO nanoparticles with v.riable av.rage radius (2.01-2.29 nm) shows nonmonotonic dependence caused by the quantum-confinement effect.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in v.rious analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers dev.loped within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 Tev.proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon ov.r jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines sev.ral jet substructure observ.bles using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are prov.ded for jets with transv.rse momentum between 500 Gev.and 2 Tev.and for multiple tagger working points.
