Background:The Mesoamerican dominion is a biogeographic area of great interest due to its complex topography and distinctive climatic *** area has a large diversity of habitats,including tropical deciduous forests,which house a large number of endemic ***,we assess phylogeographic pattern,genetic and morphometric variation in the Cinnamon Hummingbird complex Amazilia rutila,which prefers habitats in this *** resident species is distributed along the Pacific coast from Sinaloa—including the tres Marías Islands in Mexico to Costa Rica,and from the coastal plain of the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico south to ***:We obtained genetic data from 85 samples of ***,using 4 different molecular markers(mtDnA:nD2,COI;nDnA:ODC,MUSK)on which we performed analyses of population structure(median-joining network,StrU CTU Re,FST,AMOVA),Bayesian and Maximum Likelihood phylogenetic analyses,and divergence time *** order to evaluate the historic suitability of environmental conditions,we constructed projection models using past scenarios(Pleistocene periods),and conducted Bayesian Skyline Plots(BSP)to visualize changes in population sizes over *** analyze morphometric variation,we took measurements of 5 morphological traits from 210 study *** tested for differences between sexes,differences among geographic groups(defined based on genetic results),and used PCA to examine the variation in multivariate ***:Using mtDnA,we recovered four main geographic groups:the Pacific coast,the tres Marías Islands,the Chiapas region,and the Yucatán Peninsula together with Central *** same groups were recovered by the phylogenetic results based on the multilocus *** based on BSP results showed constant population size over time throughout the *** complex and within each geographic *** niche model projec-tions onto past scenarios revealed no drastic changes in suitable conditions,but revealed some

We work with the abstract K and J interpolation method generated by a sequence lattice Г. We investigate the deviation of an interpolated operator from a given operator ideal by establishing formulae for the ideal measure of the interpolated operator in terms of the ideal measures of restrictions of the operator. Formulae are given in terms of the norms of the shift operators on Г.

Alluvial sedimentation and tectonostratigraphic evolution in a narrow extensional zigzag basin margin (northern Teruel Basin, Spain)

The adsorption capacities for the removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions by six carbon nanomaterials have been evaluated. Single-walled and multi-walled carbon nanotubes as received and after oxidation treatment, graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide are the materials with different dimension and functionalization compared in this research. Carbon nanotubes have been modified using hydrogen peroxide as oxidizing agent under microwave radiation. The oxidation treatment on carbon nanotubes has a positive effect increasing the adsorbent–adsorbate interaction. Rate-controlling mechanisms and equilibrium data are analyzed using non-linear models. non-linear method is proposed as the most suitable method for determining the kinetic and equilibrium parameters. The values of adsorption energy(e) obtained from the Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm,have been found around 0.371 and 0.870 k J·mol-1, indicating physical adsorption. Therefore, the pseudo-second order model represents better the kinetic experimental data. The results show that the Langmuir isotherm provides a slightly better fit to the experimental data compared with the Freundlich isotherm, indicating homogeneous distribution of active sites on carbon nanomaterials and monolayer adsorption. The separation factors RLare found in the range of 0–1, suggesting that the adsorption process is suitable for all adsorbents. The mechanisms for hexavalent chromium removal have been proposed as electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding.

Using presence signs to discriminate between similar species

The Lusitanian and the Mediterranean pine voles(Microtus lusitanicus Gerbe,1879 and Microtus duodecimcostatus de Selys-Longchamps,1839)are fossorial sister species and have an allopatric pattern of distribution in Portugal,which includes a potential sympatry area in the centre of the *** present study aimed to determine the validity of using presence signs in the field for discrimination of the two species in an area of sympatry(northern Alentejo)and the characteristics that achieve the best classification accuracy.A total of 175 trapping plots were sampled across the study *** to the set up of traps,ten presence signs were randomly selected for measure-ments of four variables:proportion of soil mounds,mean diameter of mounds,proportion of burrow openings and mean diameter of burrow *** the basis of a classification tree analysis,results showed that presence signs can be used to discriminate plots inhabited by one or the other species in the studied sympatry *** character-istic that most accurately enables species identification is the proportion of burrow openings:for every ten pres-ence signs found in a plot,if more than eight have an opening,then it is inhabited by ***(*** burrow openings with few or no mounds present);if eight or fewer have an opening,*** is present(*** mounds with few or no burrow openings).

Antifungal activity of selected lactic acid bacteria from olive drupes

In this study,16 Lactobacilli(LABs)isolated from the drupes of olive(Olea europaea)oil varieties were identified as Lactiplantibacillus plantarum(seven isolates),Pediococcus pentosaceus(six isolates),enterococcus faecium(two isolates)and Streptococcus salivarius(a single isolate)by peptide mass fingerprinting and sequencing of the 16S *** activity of LABs and their cell-free fermentates(CFSs)against several plant pathogenic fungi and oomycetes(fungi sensu lato),including Alternaria,Aspergillus Colletotrichum,Penicillium,Plenodomus and Phytophthora,was evaluated in vitro using the culture overlaying and the agar diffusion *** inhibitory concentration(MIC)and minimal fungicidal concentration(MFC)were *** showed antifungal activity against the fungi sensu lato *** most noticeable inhibitory activity was shown by isolates of *** and *** against Fusarium oxysporum,Colletotrichum species and Penicillium *** analysis revealed CFSs contained acid lactic and variable quantities of 14 diverse phenolic acids and 26 volatile organic compounds(VOCs).no obvious correlation was found between the metabolic profile of LABs and their antifungal ***,it is the first time that the potential of fermentates of LABs,recovered from drupes of olive oil varieties,as natural fungicides,was demonstrated.

Increasing chloride concentration causes retention of mercury in melted Arctic snow due to changes in photoreduction kinetics

Mercury（Hg） in the Arctic is a significant concern due to its bioaccumulative and neurotoxic properties, and the sensitivity of Arctic environments. Previous research has found high levels of Hg in snowpacks with high chloride（Cl-） concentrations. We hypothesised that Cl- would increase Hg retention by decreasing Hg photoreduction to Hg（0） in melted Arctic snow. To test this, changes in Hg photoreduction kinetics in melted Alert, nU snow were quantified with changing Cl- concentration and UV intensity. Snow was collected and melted in Teflon bottles in May 2014, spiked with 0–10 μg/g Cl-, and irradiated with 3.52–5.78 W·m-2 UV（280–400 nm）radiation in a luz Chem photoreactor. Photoreduction rate constants（k）（0.14–0.59 hr-1） had positive linear relationships with [Cl-], while photoreduced Hg amounts（Hg（Ⅱ）red） had negative linear relationships with [Cl-]（1287–64 pg in 200 g melted snow）. Varying UV and[Cl-] both altered Hg（Ⅱ）red amounts, with more efficient Hg stabilisation by Cl- at higher UV intensity, while k can be predicted by Cl- concentration and/or UV intensity, depending on experimental parameters. Overall, with future projections for greater snowpack Cl- loading,our experimental results suggest that more Hg could be delivered to Arctic aquatic ecosystems by melted snow（smaller Hg（Ⅱ）red expected）, but the Hg in the melted snow that is photoreduced may do so more quickly（larger k expected）.
