Rat model of anal sphincter injury and two approaches for stem cell administration

AIM To establish a rat model of anal sphincter injury and test different systems to provide stem cells to injured *** Adipose-derived stem cells(ASCs) were isolated from BDIX rats and were transfected with green fluorescent protein(GFP) for cell tracking. Biosutures(sutures covered with ASCs) were prepared with 1.5 × 10~6 GFPASCs, and solutions of 10~6 GFP-ASCs in normal saline were prepared for injection. Anorectal normal anatomy was studied on Wistar and BDIX female rats. Then, we designed an anal sphincter injury model consisting of a 1-cm extra-mucosal miotomy beginning at the anal verge in the anterior middle line. The sphincter lesion was confirmed with conventional histology(hematoxylin and eosin) and immunofluorescence with 4', 6-diamidino-2-phenylindole(commonly known as DAPI), GFP and α-actin. Functional effect was assessed with basal anal manometry, prior to and after injury. After sphincter damage, 36 BDIX rats were randomized to three groups for:(1) Cell injection without repair;(2) biosuture repair; and(3) conventional suture repair and cell injection. Functional and safety studies were conducted on all the animals. Rats were sacrificed after 1, 4 or 7 d. Then, histological and immunofluorescence studies were performed on the surgical *** With the described protocol, biosutures had been covered with at least 820000-860000 ASCs, with 100% viability. Our studies demonstrated that some ASCs remained adhered after suture passage through the muscle. Morphological assessment showed that the rat anal anatomy is comparable with human anatomy; two sphincters are present, but the external sphincter is poorly developed. Anal sphincter pressure data showed spontaneous, consistent, rhythmic anal contractions, taking the form of "plateaus" with multiple twitches(peaks) in each pressure wave. 中国是世界上人口最多的国家,是具有五千年悠久历史文化的国家。现代世界闻名的许多元素都起源于中国,比如,造纸,火药,信用银行,指南针和纸币等。但是,如此光辉伟大的国家的形象是如何受损的呢?为什么如今世界把中国当作“世界工厂”呢?随着中国加入世界贸易组织,中国开始逐渐与国际接轨,加入一个全球化的世界。全球化的影响之一,就是文化的同质化。中国已经成为世界上经济增长最快的国家,中国正按照自己的思路去创建和属于自己的一席之地,让世界知道中国的声音。通过做这些,中国是为了让世界来认识中国的思维逻辑方式,而不仅仅是获得经济上的国际地位。而我的研究,就是中国是如何做到这些的,如何宣传自己的。出口文化软实力,是中国议程的主要目标。怀有创新的态度,这个国家计划在所有的主要城市建立创意集群,这将有助于创造一个城市创新的自我形象,以达到让创意集群起到城市再生器的作用。我的研究展示了上海莫干山路50号的M50创意工业园的案例,上海创意集群的先驱,被认为是一个真正内容的制造者,并专门展示翻修过的城市形象。与同类集群相比,这是它的特色。通过一系列的采访,我希望有个更好的理解：是否可能通过创意集群,在北京、上海、杭州这三个城市产生城市的更新和复兴。同时,也可以实现国家的目标,把这些城市转化成为创新型的城市,重塑城市的形象,进而重塑和丰富国家形象。

Parasites are globally widespread pathogenic organisms,which impose im portant selective forces upon their ***,in accordance with the A djustm ent to parasite pressure hypothesis,it is expected that defenses among hosts vary relative to the selective pressure imposed by *** to the latitudinal gradient in diversity,species richness and abundance of parasites peak near the *** uropygial gland is an im portant defensive exocrine gland against pathogens in *** of the uropygial gland has been proposed to vary among species of birds because of divergent selection by pathogens on their ***,we should expect that bird species from the tropics should have relatively larger uropygial glands for their body size than species from higher ***,this hypothesis has not yet been ***,we analyze the size of the uropygial gland of 1719 individual birds belonging to 36 bird species from 3 Neotropical(Peru)and 3 temperate areas(Spain).Relative uropygial gland volum e was 12.52%larger in bird species from the tropics than from temperate *** finding is consistent w ith the relative size of this defensive organ being driven by selective pressures imposed by *** also explored the potential role of this gland as a means of avoiding haemosporidian infection,showing that species with large uropygial glands for their body size tend to have lower mean prevalence of haemosporidian infection,regardless o f their geographical *** result provides additional support for the assum ption that secretions from the uropygial gland reduce the likelihood of becoming infected with haemosporidians.

The Role of Mutual Support Groups for the Control of Diabetes in a Mexican City: Achievements and Limitations from the Patients’ Perspective

Background: Mutual Support Groups (MSG) provides to the patient, the ability to effective self-management behaviors, such as taking prescribed medications, following diet and exercise regimens, self-monitoring, and coping emotionally with the rigors of living with diabetes. Physicians, nurses and health promoters from public primary Health Care Centers (HCC) are responsible for providing follow-up care through MSGs. However, although the MSG program has been carried out, in the last decade Mexico presents the most alarming statistics in the prevalence and complications of Diabetes Mellitus type II (DM-II), suggesting a low impact of MSG in the strategy to support the effective control of the disease. Objetive: The aim of this work was to assess whether knowledge or benefits of effective management to control of DM-II, also to identify strengths and limitations of MSGs, in six different Health Care Centers (HCC), in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. This research provides an overview of patients’ perception, and significant issues that demand to adjust MGSs strategies, with the goal of exceed the expectations of current health statistics. Methods: A qualitative evaluation was carried out, with an ethnographic approach design. The study included 28 diabetic persons, (21 women and 7 men from ruraland urban carecenters). Semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and structured content analysis were used. Results: Support groups give patients a way to address emotional issues, and learn about their disease and self-care, although some patients consider participation an inconvenient obligation. Support group users mention barriers such as lack of continuity in support group activities, inconvenient meeting times, and the difficulty of commuting to attend group sessions. They also mention that overworked health care workers find it difficult to provide leadership to keep the group going. These issues have multiple implications for the success of strategies to control

Attitude, Secondary Schools and Student Success in a Tertiary Mathematics Unit

There is a consensus in the literature that mathematical ability contributes to student success in tertiary education. More importantly, mathematical skills are necessary when successfully completing mathematics- and/or science-based degrees. Social sciences such as psychology and economics require statistical skills which also require knowledge of mathematics. Even business students, such as marketing and accounting students need the necessary mathematical skills to successfully complete their degrees at university. This paper suggests that student success in a core business subject is dependent on their mathematical aptitude, attitude, and type of secondary schooling whether government or non-government schools. There is urgency for universities to recognize that high failure rates are due to insufficient mathematics exposure in secondary schooling and remedial classes might not be enough. Specifying a minimum （maths, e.g., two units） requirement for entry and/or providing bridging programs to ensure students have the necessary basic mathematical skills would increase student success in quantitative units.

Ant Species Richness Variation Mediated by Seasonality in Two Ant-Acacias from Oaxaca, Mexico

Climatic conditions affect the richness of ants resulting in number variation throughout the year. The ants present in the Neotropical system Acacia-Pseudomyrmex have been previously studied considering only one sampling season. In contrast, in this study we analyze the richness in two ant-acacia systems during the rainy and dry seasons. The study was carried out on a plot located in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico where 14 ant species, 3 mutualistic and 11 non-mutualistic were found, of which 2 represent new records for the state. Ant species number differed between ant-acacia species and between seasons. The highest richness was recorded in Acacia hindsii in both rainy and dry seasons, corresponding with a low-reward host. During the dry season, A. hindsii represents a highly valuable resource. This study shows that the neotropical system is much more dynamic than it has been previously considered and offers a valuable opportunity for subsequent ecological studies for a better understanding of this complex system.

Some Results on the Space of Bounded Second Variation Functions in the Sense of Shiba

In this paper, we study the structure of the space of functions of bounded second variation in the sense of Shiba;an integral representation theorem is also proved and necessary conditions are given for that the space be closed under composition of functions. Another significant result is the proof that this space of bounded second variation in the sense of Shiba is a Banach algebra, which is not immediate as it happens in other spaces of generalized bounded variation.

Studies in recent years have shown that aquatic pollution by microplastics(MPs)can be considered to pose additional stress to amphibian ***,our knowledge of how MPs affect amphibians is very rudimentary,and even more limited is our understanding of their effects in combination with other emerging ***,we aimed to evaluate the possible toxicity of polyethylene MPs(PE-MPs)(alone or in combination with a mix of pollutants)on the health of Physalaemus cuvieri *** 30 days of exposure,multiple biomarkers were measured,including morphological,biometric,and developmental indices,behavioral parameters,mutagenicity,cytotoxicity,antioxidant and cholinesterase responses,as well as the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in *** on the results,there was no significant change in any of the parameters measured in tadpoles exposed to treatments,but induced stress was observed in tadpoles exposed to PE-MPs combined with themixture of pollutants,reflecting significant changes in physiological and biochemical *** principal component analysis(PCA)and integrated biomarker response(IBR)assessment,effects induced by pollutants in each test group were distinguished,confirming that the exposure of *** tadpoles to the PE-MPs in combination with a mix of emerging pollutants induces an enhanced stress response,although the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in these animalswas ***,our study provides newinsight into the danger to amphibians of MPs coexisting with other pollutants in aquatic environments.

三毛的《撒哈拉的故事》写于20世纪70年代中期,该书在中国非常畅销。本文对该书的英文和西文译本进行了对比分析。原文文本的写作语言为中文,这将丰富双语译本的对比分析。本文首先对翻译理论的历史进行了综述,并对皮姆(Pym)和韦努蒂(Venuti)的翻译理论进行了重点分析。之后,本文对汉英、汉西文学翻译理论的历史和发展趋势进行了探讨。本文的主体部分为三毛《撒哈拉的故事》的英文和西文译本的对比分析。西文译本标题为Diarios del Sahara,由西班牙译者Irene Tor-Carroggio执笔;英文译本标题为Storoes of the Sahara,由美国译者Canaan Morse执笔。西文译本已于2016年出版,英文译本预计将于2019年出版。尽管如此,纸托邦(Paper Republic)在网站发布了该书“哑奴”这一章的的翻译,本研究选取该部分的译文作为分析对象。本对比分析的主要目标有两个:首先是厘清两个译者所选择的翻译策略;其次是比较两个译本翻译策略的异同。三语的对比分析旨在研究两个译者对“异化”、“归化”翻译策略的取舍。对是否有脚注形式的增译信息的研究是笔者选取的一种研究方法。在本研究进行的过程中,西文译员接受了笔者的采访,向笔者介绍了其翻译三毛著作的历程。在语言层面,笔者从并列句和从句,以及词汇范围和修辞语言等层面对两个译本进行分析。在语言层面,笔者对不同的翻译策略进行了对比分析,这对理解中文、英文以及西文之间的语际差异非常重要。笔者在对比分析的其他部分也探讨了译者的写作风格。总而言之,本文对中国文学作品的英译和西译所面临的难点进行了分析,对两位译者解决这些难点所采取的翻译策略进行了探讨。
