As energy storage systems are typically not installed with residential solar photovoltaic (PV) systems,any “excess” solar energy exceeding the house load remains unharvested or is exported to the *** paper introduces an approach towards a system design for improved PV self-consumptionand self-sufficiency. As a result, a polyvalent heat pump, offering heating, cooling and domestic hotwater, is considered alongside water storage tanks and batteries. Our method of system analysisbegins with annual hourly thermal loads for heating and cooling a typical Australian house inGeelong, Victoria. These hourly heating and cooling loads are determined using Transient SystemSimulation (TRNSYS) software. The house’s annual hourly electricity consumption is analysed usingsmart meter data downloaded from the power supplier and PV generation data measured with aPV system controller. The results reveal that the proposed system could increase PV self-consumptionand self-sufficiency to 41.96% and 86.34%, respectively, resulting in the annual imported energybeing reduced by about 74%. The paper also provides sensitivity analyses for the hot and coldstorage tank sizes, the coefficient of performance of the heat pump, solar PV and battery *** establishing the limits of thermal storage size, a significant impact on self-efficiency can berealised through battery storage. This study demonstrates the feasibility of using a polyvalent heatpump together with water storage tanks and, ultimately, batteries to increase PV self-consumptionand self-sufficiency. Future work will concentrate on determining a best-fit approach to systemsizing embedded within the TRNSYS simulation tool.

We have prepared three groups of Ge–As–Se glasses in which the Se content is 5.5 mol%, 10 mol%, and 20 mol%rich, respectively. We explored the possibility of suppressing the formation of the Ge–Ge and As–As homopolar bonds in the glasses. Thermal kinetics analysis indicated that the 5.5 mol% Se-rich Ge_（11.5）As_（24）Se_（64.5） glass exhibits the minimum fragility and thus is most stable against structural relaxation. Analysis of the Raman spectra of the glasses indicated that the Ge–Ge and As–As homopolar bonds could be almost completely suppressed in 20 mol% Se-rich Ge_（15）As_（14）Se_（71） glass.

The utilization of waste biological resources to synthesize value added products benefits the world by reducing environmental *** recent years,carbon has gained much attention as a functional material used for various applications *** purification,hydrogen storage and electrode ***,various sources of carbon *** coke,coal and pitch are not environmentally friendly and well as non-renewable,therefore the need to explore new alternatives such as *** this work,waste palm kernel shells obtained from an oil production firm are converted into carbon by an affordable and easy carbonization process called "double-crucible carbonization".After which the palm kernel derived carbon was characterized by various characterization techniques and then used as an additive into magnesium during the milling *** resulting Mg-PKSC composite after ball milling is hydrided through static hydrogenation to produce a Mg-PKSC hydrogen storage material,after which the hydrogen storage material is characterized by SEM,XRD and its absorption and desorption performance tested by p-c-T and DSC,*** show that,crystallite sizes of the starting magnesium powder decreased after ball milling at frequency of 30Hz for *** acts as a dispersing agent prevent agglomeration of magnesium particles during the milling process.80Mg20PKSC composite achieves 93%conversion of magnesium into magnesium hydride after static hydrogenation with a hydrogen content of 5.56wt%and a plateau pressure of 1.1MPa at 360℃.DSC analysis of all hydrogen storage materials presented only one endothermic peak,but it was found that increasing the amount of PKSC additive in the composite decreases the desorption peak temperature when compared with pure Mg,thus,hydrided 80Mg20PKSC recording a desorption temperature of 388℃.Kissinger approach was applied to calculate the apparent activation energy of the synthesized hydrogen storage materials,it was found out to

Acute myocardial infarction （AMI） is the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Timely reperfusion is the standard of care and results in decreased infarct size, improving patient survival and prognosis. However, 25% of patients proceed to develop heart failure （HF） after myocardial infarction （MI） and 50% of these will die within five years. Since the size of the infarct is the major predictor of the outcome, including the development of HF, therapies to improve myocardial salvage have great potential. Over the past three decades, a number of stimuli have been discovered that activate endogenous cardioprotective pathways. In ischemic preconditioning （IPC） and ischemic postconditioning, ischemia within the heart initiates the protection. Brief reversible episodes of ischemia in vascular beds remote from the heart can also trigger cardioprotection when applied before, during, or immediately after myocardial ischemia-- known as remote ischemic pre-, per-, and post-conditioning, respectively. Although the mechanism of remote ischemic preconditioning （RIPC） has not yet been fully elucidated, many mechanistic components are shared with IPC. The discovery of RIPC led to research into the use of remote non-ischemic stimuli including nerve stimulation （spinal and vagal）, and electroacupuncture （EA）. We discovered and, with others, have elucidated mechanistic aspects of a non- ischemic phenomenon we termed remote preconditioning of trauma （RPCT）. RPCT operates via neural stimulation of skin sensory nerves and has similarities and differences to nerve stimulation and EA conducted at acupoints. We show herein that RPCT can be mimicked using electrical stimulation of the abdominal midline （EA-like treatment） and that this modality of activating cardioprotection is powerful as both a preconditioning and a postconditioning stimulus （when applied at reperfusion）. Investigations of these cardioprotective phenomena have led to a more integrative understanding of mechanisms

We investigated the performance trade-offs of fleas(Siphonaptera)while adapting to a novel host using two host generalists(Xenopsylla conformis and Xenopsylla ramesis)and one host specialist(Parapulex chephrenis)maintained on their principal hosts(Meriones crassus for Xenopsylla and Acomys cahirinus for ***).We asked whether,over generations,(i)a host generalist may become a specialist by evolving the ability to exploit a novel host and losing the ability to exploit an original host and(ii)a host specialist can become a generalist by evolving the ability to exploit a novel host without losing the ability to exploit an original *** established an experimental line of each species on a novel host(Acomys russatus for Xenopsylla and *** for ***)and maintained this line on this host during 23 *** compared reproductive performance of progenitors of each line and their descendants when they exploited either original or novel host in terms of egg number and size,hatching success,offspring production,and offspring *** found changes in performance over generations in female offspring size *** conformis demonstrated a tendency to become a host specialist(increased performance on the novel host with a concomitant decreased performance on the original host),whereas *** demonstrated a tendency to become a host generalist(increased performance on the novel host without a concomitant decreased performance on the original host).We conclude that the probability of generalist to specialist transition,and vice versa,is context-dependent and varies between species.
