A differential accelerometer comprising of two rotating masses made of the same material is proposed for drop tower-based free-fall testing of the spin-spin force between the rotating mass and the Earth. The measurement is performed by placing the two concentric masses of very different momenta in a vacuum drop capsule which is falling freely in the Earth＇s gravitational field. A nonzero output of the differential aeeelerometer is an indication of possible violation of new equivalence principle （NEP）. We present the conceptual design of a modified free-fall NEP experiment which can be performed at the Belting drop tower. Design and evaluation of the differential accelerometer with a hybrid electrostatic/magnetic suspension system are presented to accommodate for operation on ground and drop-tower tests. Details specific to the measurement uncertainty are discussed to yield an NEP test accuracy of 7.2×10^-9.

Serine/arginine (SR)-rich proteins are critical for the regulation of alternative splicing (AS), which generates multiple mRNA isoforms from one gene and provides protein diversity for cell differentiation and tissue development. Genetic evidence suggests that Drosophila genital-specific overexpression of SR-related nuclear matrix protein of 160 kDa (SRml60), an SR prot&n with a PWI RNA-binding motif, causes defective development only in male flies and results in abnonnal male genital structures and abnormal testis. However, the molecular characterization of SRm160 is limited. Using the high-throughput sequencing of RNA isolated by crosslinking immunoprecipitation (HITS-CLIP) method in two sex-specific embryonic cell lines, S2 from the male and Kc from the female, we first identified the genome-wide RNA-binding characteristics of SRm160, which preferred binding to the exonic tri-nucleotide repeats GCA and AAC. We then validated this binding through both in vitro gel-shift assay and in vivo splicing of minigenes and found that SRm160 level affects AS of many transcripts. Furthermore, we identified 492 differential binding sites (DBS) of SRm160 varying between the two sex-specific cell *** these DBS-containing genes, splicing factors were highly enriched, including transformer, a key regulator in the sex determination cascade. Analyses of fly mutants demonstrated that the SRm160 level affects AS isoforms of transformer. These findings shed crucial light on SRm160's RNA-binding specificity and regulation of AS in Drosophila sex determination and development.

A hydrophobic carbon dots(Glc-OCDs)derived from octadecylamine and glucose were successfully synthesized for the first time and then grafted onto the porous silica surface by the“Nano-on-Micro”strategy,which was served as a new stationary phase(Sil-Glc-OCDs)for reversed-phase liquid *** structure of this stationary phase was carefully verified by laser scanning confocal microscope,Fourier transform infrared spectrometry,elemental analysis,contact angle measurement,*** analytes including seven polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons,eight alkylbenzenes,eight phenols and seven sulfonamides can be well separated on this stationary *** separation performance for certain analytes over commercial C_(18) column was ***,this stationary phase exhibited excellent chromatographic selectivity in the separation of the isomers of tert‑butylbenzene,sec‑butylbenzene,isobutylbenzene and *** addition,this new Sil-Glc-OCDs column was also applied for detection of calycosin-7-glucoside,ononin,calycosin,formononetin,genistein and isorhamnetin in the extract of Radix Astragali,which were found that the concentration was 0.15 g/L,0.088 g/L,0.14 g/L,0.086 g/L,0.18 g/L and 0.29 g/L,*** believe that this CDs-grafted silica materials are promising for chromatographic separation.

Background Surgery of pituitary adenomas invading cavernous sinus has always been thought as a challenge due to the complex anatomical structures and high risk of complications. The purpose of this study was to evaluate endoscopic trarssphenoidal approach to pituitary adenomas invading cavernous *** The clinical data of 22 patients who admitted to Xuanwu Hospital with pituitary adenomas invading cavernous sinus were analyzed retrospectively. All patients underwent endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery. To expose the surgical field sufficiently, the opening of sellar floor was exceeded the bone overlying the invaded cavernous sinus, and synthetic dura was used to repair and strengthen the sella floor for preventing the leak of cerebrospinal *** Among 22 patients, total resection was achieved in 14, subtotal resection in 5, and partial resection in 3; no patient underwent insufficient resection. Visual symptoms improved in 7 of 9 patients. In one patient diplopia *** was relieved to various extents in all patients. No serious complications were found. Patient＇s hospital stay ranged from 7 to 20 *** These data suggest that the endoscopic transsphenoid approach is a safe, minimally invasive, and efficient surgical technique, which might be an important therapeutic strategy for the pituitary adenoms invading cavernous sinus.

To understand plant molecular networks of glucosinolate metabolism, perturbation of aliphatic glucosinolate biosynthesis was established using inducible RNA interference （RNAi） in Arabidopsis. Two RNAi lines were chosen for examining global protein and metabolite changes using complementary proteomics and metabolomics approaches. Pro- teins involved in metabolism including photosynthesis and hormone metabolism, protein binding, energy, stress, and defense showed marked responses to glucosinolate perturbation. In parallel, metabolomics revealed major changes in the levels of amino acids, carbohydrates, peptides, and hormones. The metabolomics data were correlated with the pro- teomics results and revealed intimate molecular connections between cellular pathways/processes and glucosinolate me- tabolism. This study has provided an unprecedented view of the molecular networks of glucosinolate metabolism and laid a foundation towards rationale glucosinolate engineering for enhanced defense and quality.

Due to the risk of extinction and ornamental value of the swallowtail butterfly, Sericinus montelus Gray （Lepidoptera： Papilionidae） in China, knowledge about local adaptations is important for the conservation and economical utilization of the species. In the present study, photoperiodie diapause induction and diapause intensity of S. montelus populations from Jiamusi （46°37＇N）, Beijing （40° 15＇N）, Zibo （36°48＇N）, Fangxian （32°36＇N）, Wuhan （30°33＇N） and Huaihua （27°33＇N） were characterized at 25℃. Logistic regression analysis revealed a significant population x hours of light interaction, confirming that photoperiodic responses varied among populations. The critical photoperiod was positively correlated with latitude and increased toward the north at a rate of about 1 h for each 6.67 degrees of latitude. Survival analyses indicated that survival time of diapausing pupae before adult eclosion differed significantly among populations at 25℃ and 16 ： 8 L ＂D h. The mean duration of pupal diapause was also positively correlated with latitude. Our study reveals geographic variation in the critical photoperiod for diapause induction and in diapause intensity of S. montelus. These results provide useful information for our general understanding about seasonal adaptation in insects and may also be used to predict how geographic populations respond to climate warming.

Recent studies have characterized the genomic structures of many eukaryotic cells,often focusing on their relation to gene ***,these studies have largely investigated cells grown in 2D cultures,although the transcriptomes of 3D-cultured cells are generally closer to their in vivo *** examine the effects of spatial constraints on chromosome conformation,we investigated the genomic architecture of mouse hepatocytes grown in 2D and 3D cultures using in situ *** results reveal significant differences in higher-order genomic interactions,notably in compartment identity and strength as well as in topologically associating domain(TAD)-TAD interactions,but only minor differences are found at the TAD *** RNA-seq analysis reveals up-regulated expression of genes involved in physiological hepatocyte functions in the 3D-cultured *** genes are associated with a subset of structural changes,suggesting that differences in genomic structure are critically important for transcriptional ***,there are also many structural differences that are not directly associated with changes in gene expression,whose cause remains to be ***,our results indicate that growth in 3D significantly alters higher-order genomic interactions,which may be consequential for a subset of genes that are important for the physiological functioning of the cell.

Coupling of a phase transition to electron and phonon transports provides extra degree of freedom to improve the thermoelectric performance, while the pertinent experimental and theoretical studies are still rare. Particularly,the impaction of chemical compositions and phase transition characters on the abnormal thermoelectric properties across phase transitions are largely unclear. Herein, by varying the Cu content x from 1.75 to 2.10, we systemically investigate the crystal structural evolution, phase transition features, and especially the thermoelectric properties during the phase transition for Cu_(x)Se. It is found that the addition of over-stoichiometry Cu in Cu_(x)Se could alter the phase transition characters and suppress the formation of Cu vacancies. The critical scatterings of phonons and electrons during phase transitions strongly enhance the Seebeck coefficient and diminish the thermal conductivity, leading to an ultrahigh dimensionless thermoelectric figure of merit of ~1.38 at 397 K in Cu_(2.10)*** the decreasing Cu content, the critical electron and phonon scattering behaviors are mitigated, and the corresponding thermoelectric performances are reduced. This work offers inspirations for understanding and tuning the thermoelectric transport properties during phase transitions.

Effects of Evapotranspiration on Mitigation of Urban Temperature by Vegetation and Urban Agriculture

The temperature difference between an urban space and surrounding non-urban space is called the urban heat island effect （UHI）. Global terrestrial evapotranspiration （ET） can consume 1.4803x1023joules （J） of energy annually, which is about 21.74% of the total available solar energy at the top of atmosphere, whereas annual human energy use is 4.935× 1020 J, about 0.33% of annual ET energy consumption. Vegetation ET has great potential to reduce urban and global temperatures. Our literature review suggests that vegetation and urban agricultural ET can reduce urban temperatures by 0.5 to 4.0℃. Green roofs （including urban agriculture） and water bodies have also been shown to be effective ways of reducing urban temperatures. The cooling effects on the ambient temperature and the roof surface temperature can be 0.24-4.0℃ and 0.8-60.0℃, respectively. The temperature of a water body （including urban aquaculture） can be lower than the temperature of the surrounding built environment by between 2 and 6℃, and a water body with a 16 m2 surface area can cool up to 2 826 m3 of nearby space by 1℃. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the increase of evapotranspiration in cities, derived from vegetation, urban agriculture, and water body, can effectively mitigate the effect of urban heat islands.
