Reagent elution combined with positive pressure filtration:A zero-discharge method for cyanide tailings remediation

At present, the cyanide gold extraction process is still the main technology for gold production. Generated cyanide tailings containing highly toxic substances exhibit potential environmental risks. These tailings are in urgent need of purification treatment, especially after being classified as hazardous waste. In this study, the impacts of elution methods, operating time, tailings/water ratios, reagent types on the elution rates of cyanide were investigated. Furthermore, the composite elution method developed in this research was extended for engineering. Results showed that the optimum elution conditions were determined to be: stirring elution, tailings/water ratio( M/V;1:1) and operating time(10-20 min). Besides, 4 reagents(sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate, cyclodextrin, sodium silicate and calcium hydroxide) were selected from four categories of 21 reagents for further composite elution. The cyanide elution rate was the highest(90.7% ±0.1%) while the molar ratio of these 4 reagents was 5:2:2:1. Moreover, the combination of reagent elution and positive pressure filtration improved the elution efficiency of cyanide(92.6% ±0.8%). And the cyanide content in the toxic leaching solution was lower than the standard value(5.0 mg/L). Furthermore, the composite elution method developed in this study was also extended for engineering. The concentration of cyanide in the leachate was < 5.0 mg/L, and was stable during 189 days of detection. Notably, the effluent can be reused directly, or reused after further treatment. The zero discharge of effluents and solid wastes was realized in the processes. The above results provided supports for the engineering treatment of cyanide tailings.

Variational Bayesian multi-sparse component extraction for damage reconstruction of space debris hypervelocity impact

To improve the survivability of orbiting spacecraft against space debris impacts,we propose an impact damage assessment method.First,a multi-area damage mining model,which can describe damages in different spatial layers,is built based on an infrared thermal image sequence.Subsequently,to identify different impact damage types from infrared image data effectively,the variational Bayesian inference is used to solve for the parameters in the model.Then,an image-processing framework is proposed to eliminate variational Bayesian errors and compare locations of different damage types.It includes an image segmentation algorithm with an energy function and an image fusion method with sparse representation.In the experiment,the proposed method is used to evaluate the complex damages caused by the impact of the secondary debris cloud on the rear wall of the typical Whipple shield configuration.Experimental results show that it can effectively identify and evaluate the complex damage caused by hypervelocity impact,including surface and internal defects.

Smooth tracking control for conversion mode of a tilt-rotor aircraft with switching modeling

This paper investigates the state-tracking control problem in conversion mode of a tilt-rotor aircraft with a switching modeling method and a smooth interpolation technique.Based on the nonlinear model of the conversion mode,a switched linear model is developed by using the Jacobian linearization method and designing the switching signal based on the mast angle.Furthermore,an ℋ_(∞) state-tracking control scheme is designed to deal with the conversion mode control issue.Moreover,instead of limiting the amplitude of control inputs,a smooth interpolation method is developed to create bumpless performance.Finally,the XV-15 tilt-rotor aircraft is chosen as a prototype to illustrate the effectiveness of this developed control method.

A review of deep learning approach to predicting the state of health and state of charge of lithium-ion batteries

In the field of energy storage,it is very important to predict the state of charge and the state of health of lithium-ion batteries.In this paper,we review the current widely used equivalent circuit and electrochemical models for battery state predictions.The review demonstrates that machine learning and deep learning approaches can be used to construct fast and accurate data-driven models for the prediction of battery performance.The details,advantages,and limitations of these approaches are presented,compared,and summarized.Finally,future key challenges and opportunities are discussed.

Efficient benzaldehyde photosynthesis coupling photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Photosynthesis of organic compounds in coupling with promoted hydrogen evolution under mild conditions of light irradiation is considered as one of the most efficient and promising approach to obtain high purity hydrogen and value-added chemicals concurrently by utilizing green solar energy.Here,we report the synthesis of Ni S nanoparticle-modified Cd S nanorod composites(Ni S/Cd S)as an efficient bifunctional catalyst for the highly selective photocatalytic synthesis of high-value-added product benzaldehyde(BAD)from aqueous solution of benzyl alcohol(BA)under oxygen-free conditions,in accompanying with the efficient hydrogen evolution.The synergetic catalytic effect between Ni S and Cd S is proposed to play an important role in elevating the photo-redox performance.The composition-optimized 30%Ni S/Cd S catalyst affords an extraordinarily high H;generation rate of 207.8μmol h^(-1)and a simultaneous BAD generation rate of 163.8μmol h^(-1)under visible light irradiation,which are respectively 139 and 950 times higher than those of Cd S without Ni S modification.To our knowledge,these are the highest photocatalytic production rates of both H_(2)and aldehyde ever reported on the concurrent photocatalytic of aldehyde synthesis and hydrogen evolution in green aqueous solution.This work provides a highly efficient photosynthesis strategy for the concurrent productions of high-value-added fine chemicals and hydrogen.

Key technologies, engineering management and important suggestions of shale oil/gas development: Case study of a Duvernay shale project in Western Canada Sedimentary Basin

The Duvernay project in Canada was taken as an example to summarize the advanced technology and engineering management model of shale oil and gas development in North America.Preliminary suggestions were put forward to accelerate the commercial development of domestic continental shale oil and gas.The advanced technologies,valuable knowledge and rich experience were introduced,including the evaluation of geological target area of the project,rapid long horizontal drilling and completion,high-intensity fracturing,and well spacing optimization.In particular,the concept and connotation of the full-life cycle management of North American unconventional resource projects were analyzed.Its emphasis on early evaluation and risk management,and a highly competitive market environment have played an important role in promoting technological innovation and management innovation.In addition,the low-cost sharing system of industry-wide knowledge and experience and the management mode were applied.These management approaches are of great significance for reference in accelerating the exploration and development of unconventional resources in China.China possesses abundant shale oil and gas resources,which are an important replacement to guarantee the national oil and gas energy supply.However,due to the late start and special geological characteristics and engineering difficulties in China,there is a large gap in technology level and management mode compared with North America.According to the advanced experience and enlightenment of the shale oil and gas development in North America,a preliminary proposal to accelerate the development of shale oil and gas in China was made.

Enantioselective oxidative construction of a C(sp^(3))–S bond has been achieved using a chiral primary amine catalyst in the presence of tert-butyl hydroperoxide and a catalytic amount of tetrabutylammonium iodide.The distinctive feature of the current reaction is coupling with nucleophilic sulfur reactants under oxidative conditions.This protocol provides facile access to chiral thioethers bearing S-containing quaternary stereocenters with good chemo-and enantiocontrol.

Improved lateral-dynamics-intended railway vehicle model involving nonlinear wheel/rail interaction and car body flexibility

To study the vehicle hunting behavior and its coupling with car body vibrations,a simplified lateral-dynamics-intended railway vehicle model is developed.A two-truck vehicle is modeled as a 17 degrees-of-freedom rigid system,into which the car body flexural vibrations of torsion and bending modes are further integrated.The wheel/rail interaction employs a real-time calculation for the Hertzian normal contact,in which the nonlinear curvatures of wheel and rail profiles are presented as functions of wheelset lateral movement and/or yaw rotation.Then the tangential/creep forces are analytically expressed as the Hertzian contact patch geometry,and lead to a continuous and fast calculation compared to a look-up table interpolation.It is shown that the hunting frequencies of the vehicle model and a truck model differ significantly,which verifies the necessity of the whole vehicle model.In the case of low wheel/rail conicity,the hunting frequency increases linearly with vehicle speed,whereas it rises slowly at high speed for a large conicity.Comparison of hunting frequency and damping ratio between various conicities shows that first hunting(car body hunting)may occur when the vehicle is operated at a low speed in a small conicity case,while a second hunting(truck hunting)appears when the vehicle is operated at a high speed in a large conicity case.Stability analysis of linear and nonlinear vehicle models was carried out through coast down method and constant speed simulations.Results tell that the linear one overestimates the lateral vibrating.Whereas the structural vibrations of car body can be ignored in the stability analysis.Compared to existing simplified models for hunting stability study,the proposed simplified vehicle model released limitations in the nonlinear geometries of wheel/rail profiles,and it is suitable for a frequency-domain analysis by deriving the analytical expressions of the normal and tangential wheel/rail contact forces.

Neuroimaging data typically include multiple modalities,such as structural or functional magnetic resonance imaging,dif-fusion tensor imaging,and positron emission tomography,which provide multiple views for observing and analyzing the brain.To lever-age the complementary representations of different modalities,multimodal fusion is consequently needed to dig out both inter-modality and intra-modality information.With the exploited rich information,it is becoming popular to combine multiple modality data to ex-plore the structural and functional characteristics of the brain in both health and disease status.In this paper,we first review a wide spectrum of advanced machine learning methodologies for fusing multimodal brain imaging data,broadly categorized into unsupervised and supervised learning strategies.Followed by this,some representative applications are discussed,including how they help to under-stand the brain arealization,how they improve the prediction of behavioral phenotypes and brain aging,and how they accelerate the biomarker exploration of brain diseases.Finally,we discuss some exciting emerging trends and important future directions.Collectively,we intend to offer a comprehensive overview of brain imaging fusion methods and their successful applications,along with the chal-lenges imposed by multi-scale and big data,which arises an urgent demand on developing new models and platforms.

Optimal Structural Parameters for a Plastic Centrifugal Pump Inducer

The aim of the study is to determine the optimal structural parameters for a plastic centrifugal pump inducer within the framework of an orthogonal experimental method.For this purpose,a numerical study of the related flow field is performed using CFX.The shaft power and the head of the pump are taken as the evaluation indicators.Accordingly,the examined variables are the thickness(S),the blade cascade degree(t),the blade rim angle(β1),the blade hub angle(β2)and the hub length(L).The impact of each structural parameter on each evaluation index is examined and special attention is paid to the following combinations:S2 mm,t 2,β1235°,β2360°and L 140 mm(corresponding to a maximum head of 98.15 m);S 5 mm,t 1.6,β1252°,β2350°and L 140 mm(corresponding to a minimum shaft power of 63.06 KW).Moreover,using least squares and fish swarm algorithms,the pump shaft power and head are further optimized,yielding the following optimal combination:S 5 mm,t 1.9,β1252°,β2360°and L 145 mm(corresponding to the maximum head of 91.90 m,and a minimum shaft power of 64.83 KW).
