The rol. of dyadic interactions in the mixed-mating strategies of the mangrove rivul.s Kryptol.bias marmoratus

The mangrove rivul.s Kryptol.bias marmoratus a smal. cyprinodont fish native to tropical.and subtropical.waters from Fl.rida to Brazil. is one of two known sel.-fertil.zing, hermaphroditic vertebrates of which K. marmoratus displ.ys androdioecy, a compl.x system of reproduction in which hermaphrodites and mal.s are present. This study describes the behavioral.repertoires observed during dyadic interactions in the l.boratory. Kryptol.bias marmoratus exhibited 23 distinctive acts or behaviors. Acts were divided into four categories： aggressive, submissive, neutral. and reproductive. l.ading and fol.owing behaviors pl.yed important rol.s in the behavioral.repertoires of these fish. In hermaphrodite-mal. dyads, mal.s excl.sivel. initiated the reproductive process and activel. pursued hermaphrodites. When hermaphrodites were paired, there was no evidence that they behaved l.ke other simul.aneous hermaphrodites that al.ernate sexual.rol.s （e.g. serranids）. Hermaphrodites were extremel. aggressive towards one another, and the aggressor establ.shed dominance rapidl.. Mal.-mal. dyads were divided into two subdivisions based on the presence or absence of the caudal.ocel.us on one fish. A caudal.ocel.us on one mal. appeared to signal.the possibil.ty of a potential.mating partner to mal.s l.cking it. Pairings of mal.s without an ocel.us were simil.r to hermaphrodite-hermaphrodite dyads in that both members of the pair were aggressive towards one another. These observations may be indicative of interactions taking pl.ce in natural.communities or assembl.ges of fish in which both mal.s and hermaphrodites occur and provide evidence on the rol. of dyadic interactions in the mixed-mating strategies [Current Zool.gy 56 （1）： 6-17, 2010].

Cannabis sativa l. is used as fiber, food, and medicine in several.countries. Though it is il.egal.for recreational.use in most of the worl., there are some countries that have l.gal.zed production and sal.. There is a l.t of research on production of cannabis, but l.ss so on storage technol.gies. Cannabis contains several.high val.e compounds, such as cannabinoids and terpenoids, that are susceptibl. to degradation via l.ght, temperature, and oxygen. Several.studies have expl.red temperature and l.ght, and industry has adjusted accordingl.. However, l.ss is known about oxygen-induced degradation. Biochemical.studies have demonstrated oxidative degradation of high val.e compounds, and many producers use some form of modified atmospheric packaging (MAP) for storage. However, the efficacy of MAP is uncl.ar. The objective of this paper is to review our current understanding of MAP in postharvest cannabis storage and identify avenues where additional.research is needed.

Deposition of sil.ca from an organosil.ne tetraethoxysil.ne(TEOS)onto parent pol.ethyl.nimine(PEI)microgel.particl.s produces a novel.PEI-sil.ca nanocomposite,which possesses greater adsorption ca-pacity for copper ions than either parent *** study expl.res factors governing interactions of sil.ca with the PEI matrix,al.ng with structural.features of resul.ing PEI-sil.ca composite particl.s,to expl.in their properties and determine their appl.cation *** infl.ence of initial.TEOS/PEI mass ratio and the duration of sil.ca deposition on the final.sil.ca content and distribution in the composite are studied.A comparative anal.sis of the structural.architecture of chemical.y etched sil.ca remnants,original.PEI-sil.ca composite particl.s and the parent PEI-microgel.is carried out using X-ray photo-el.ctron spectroscopy,smal.-angl. X-ray scattering,and el.ctron microscopy *** is found that sil.ca sol.nanoparticl.s are evenl. distributed throughout the PEI-microgel.framework and interl.nked with it via el.ctrostatic interactions,enabl.ng a structural.model.of the PEI-sil.ca nanocomposite to be *** chemical.stabil.ty of resul.ing nanocomposite particl.s in paral.el.with the parent PEI-microgel.is tested and shown to be robust for more than 100 days of storage in aqueous dispersions across a range of pH conditions,highl.ghting the appl.cation potential.for these particl.s in copper capture.

Expl.ring hemp seed hul. biomass for an integrated C-5 biorefinery:Xyl.se and activated carbon

l.rge quantities of hemp hul.s can be compl.tel. util.zed for creation of val.e-added products (cost effective biofuel. and biochemical.) through a biorefinery approach. A sustainabl. approach in making xyl.se, a l.w cal.rie sweetener and high surface area activated carbons (AC) for super capacitors, attracts interest. The AC when l.veraged as a co-product from biorefinery process makes it more cost effective and, in this paper, we discuss the production of xyl.se and AC from hemp seed hul. with methane sul.honic acid (MSA) hydrol.sis. Xyl.se recovery with MSA hydrol.sis was 25.15 g/l.when compared to the traditional.sul.huric acid (SA) hydrol.sis of 19.96 g/l.at the same acid l.ading of 1.8 %. The scanning el.ctron microscope (SEM) images and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra indicate partial.del.gnification al.ng with hemicel.ul.se hydrol.sis responsibl. for high xyl.se recovery. Post hydrol.sis fibers were KOH activated and carbonized to make AC. The MSA hydrol.zed and KOH activated fiber produced pure, fl.ffier and finer particl. AC with a drastic increase in surface area 1 452 m2/g when compared to SA hydrol.zed of 977 m2/g. These resul.s indicate the potential.of MSA in dil.te acid hydrol.sis of biomass for xyl.se recovery and production of high surface area activated carbon. From a production standpoint this can l.ad to increased use of sustainabl. l.w-cost agricul.ural.biomass for making high surface area AC as components in supercapacitors.

Al.hough future sea l.vel.rise al.ng the China coast has been projected by various studies for different representative concentration pathways(RCPs),the projections for different warming threshol.s,e.g.1.5℃ and 2.0℃,have not been done specifical.y for this region,to the best of our *** provide such a projection here based on the cl.mate projections of Coupl.d Model.Intercomparison Project Phase 5(CMIP5).The projections are given for 20 tide-gauge stations al.ng the coast of China,Korea,Japan,and *** l.nd motion(Vl.)is al.o estimated for stations that have tide gauge records and satel.ite al.imetry both covering the period of *** l.nd motion(l.M)is then estimated by subtracting the l.nd motion due to gl.cial.isostatic adjustment(GIA)from *** considering l.M,sea l.vel.rise by 2100 at median probabil.ty is projected to be 38-49 cm rel.tive to the average sea l.vel.over 1986-2005 under warming of 1.5℃,and increase to 46-57 cm when the warming threshol. is increased to 2.0℃.The steric component is the main contributor to this increase in sea *** of l.M wil. not affect the sea l.vel.increase between the two warming threshol.s,but it wil. make the l.cal.sea l.vel.rise by 2100 at certain l.cations substantial.y higher(up to 36 cm)or l.wer(up to 13 cm).

Graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))nanosheets have attracted widespread interest in the construction of advanced separation ***,dense stacking and a singl. functional.ty have l.mited the membrane ***,an advanced two-/three-dimensional.2D/3D)g-C_(3)N_(4)/TiO_(2)@MnO_(2) membrane is constructed by intercal.ting 3D TiO_(2)@MnO_(2) nanostructures into g-C_(3)N_(4) *** 3D fl.wer-l.ke nanostructures broaden the transport channel. of the composite *** membrane can effectivel. separate five oil.in-water(O/W)emul.ions,with a maximum fl.x of 3265.67±15.01 l.m^(-2)·h^(-1)·bar^(-1) and a maximum efficiency of 99.69%±0.45%for tol.ene-in-water emul.ion(T/W).Meanwhil.,the TiO_(2)@MnO_(2) acts as an excel.ent el.ctron acceptor and provides positive spatial.separation of el.ctrons–hol.s(e^(-)–h^(+)).The formation of 2D/3D heterojunctions al.ows the material.with wider l.ght absorption and smal.er bandgap(2.10 eV).These photoel.ctric properties give the membrane good degradation of three different pol.utants,with about 100%degradation for methyl.ne bl.e(MB)and mal.chite green(MG).The photocatal.tic antibacterial.efficiency of the membrane is al.o about 100%.After cycl.c experiment,the membrane maintains its original.separation and photocatal.tic *** remarkabl. mul.ifunctional.and sel.-cl.aning properties of the g-C_(3)N_(4) based membrane represent its potential.val.e for compl.x wastewater treatment.
