To understand c.imate c.anges rec.rded in the Luoc.uan loess-palaeosols, Shaanxi provinc., northwes- tern c.ina, c.ay mineralogy was studied using X-ray diffrac.ion （XRD）, high-resolution transmission elec.ron mic.osc.py （HRTEM）, and sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.py （SEM） methods. XRD results show that c.ay mineral c.mpositions in the Luoc.uan loess-palaeosols are dom- inantly illite, with minor c.lorite, kaolinite, smec.ite, and illite-smec.ite mixed-layer c.ays （US）. Illite is the most abundant spec.es in the sediments, with a c.ntent of 61%- 83%. The c.ntent of c.lorite ranges from 5%-22%, and the c.ntent of kaolinite ranges from 5%-19%. Smec.ite （or US） oc.urs disc.ntinuously along the loess profile, with a c.ntent of 0-8%. The Kfibler index of illite （Ic. ranges from 0.255°-0.491°, and the illite c.emic.l index （Ic.） ranges from 0.294-0.394. The c.A values of the loess- palaeosols are 61.9-69.02, and the R3＋/（R3＋＋ R2＋＋ M＋） values are 0.508-0.589. HRTEM observations show that transformation of illite to illite-smec.ite has oc.urred in both the loess and palaeosol, suggesting that the Luoc.uan loess-palaeosols have experienc.d a c.rtain degree of c.emic.l weathering. The Luoc.uan loess-palaeosols have the same c.ay mineral assemblage along the profile. However, the relative c.ntents of c.ay mineral spec.es, c.A, Ic., and Ic.values fluc.uate frequently along the profile, and all these parameters display a similar trend. Moreover, c.imate c.anges suggested by the c.ay index are c.nsistent with variations in the deep-sea 6180 rec.rds and the magnetic.susc.ptibility value, and thus, c.imate c.anges in the Luoc.uan region have been c.ntrolled by global c.imate c.ange.

Type VII sec.etion systems(T7SSs)are found in many disease related bac.eria inc.uding Myc.bac.erium tuberc.losis(Mtb).ESX-1[early sec.eted antigen 6 kilodaltons(ESAT-6)system 1]is one of the five subtypes(ESX-1?5)of T7SSs in Mfb,where it delivers virulenc. fac.ors into host mac.ophages during ***,little is known about the molec.lar details as to how this ***,we provide high-resolution c.ystal struc.ures of the c.terminal ATPase3 domains of Ec.c.subunits from four different Mtb T7SS *** struc.ures adopt a c.assic.Rec.-like a/p fold with a c.nserved Mg-ATP binding *** struc.ure of Ec.c.l in c.mplex with the c.terminal peptide of EsxB identifies the loc.tion of substrate rec.gnition site and shows how the spec.fic.signaling module XxxxMxF"for Mtb ESX-1 binds to this site resulting in a translation of the bulge loop.A c.mparison of all the ATPase3 struc.ures shows there are signific.nt differenc.s in the shape and c.mposition of the signal rec.gnition poc.ets ac.oss the family,suggesting that distinc. signaling sequenc.s of substrates are required to be spec.fic.lly rec.gnized by different T7SSs.A hexameric.model of the Ec.c.ATPase3 is proposed and shows the rec.gnition poc.et is loc.ted near the c.ntral substrate transloc.tion *** diameter of the c.annel is?25-A,with a size that would allow helix-bundle shaped substrate proteins to bind and pass ***,our work provides new molec.lar insights into substrate rec.gnition for Mtb T7SS subtypes and also a possible transportation mec.anism for substrate and/or virulenc. fac.or sec.etion.

Anterior ankle arthrodesis

Ankle arthrodesis is a c.mmon proc.dure that resolves many c.nditions of the foot and ankle; however, c.mplic.tions following this proc.dure are often reported and vary depending on the fixation tec.nique. Various tec.niques have been desc.ibed in the attempt to ac.ieve ankle arthrodesis and there is muc. debate as to the effic.enc. of eac. one. This study aims to evaluate the effic.enc. of anterior plating in ankle arthrodesis using c.stomised and Synthes Tomo Fix plates. We present the outc.mes of 28 ankle arthrodeses between 2005 and 2012, spec.fic.lly examining rate of union, patient-reported outc.mes sc.res, and c.mplic.tions. All 28 patients ac.ieved radiographic.union at an average of 36 wk; the majority of patients(92.86%) at or before 16 wk, the exc.ptions being two patients with c.arc.t joints who were noted to have bony union at a three year review. Patient-reported outc.mes sc.res signific.ntly inc.eased(P c.mplic.tions inc.uded two delayed unions as previously mentioned, infec.ion, and extended postoperative pain. With multiple points for fixation and c.axial sc.ew entry points, the c.ntoured c.stomised plate offers added c.mpression and provides a rigid fixation for arthrodesis stabilization.

Dear Editor, Antibiotic.resistanc. has emerged as a major threat to global health;multi-drug resistant bac.eria already kill more patients in the United States eac. year than HIV/AIDS, Parkinson's disease, emphysema and homic.de c.mbined (Laxminarayan et al., 2013).Among the most effec.ive bac.erial resistanc. mec.anisms are β-lac.amases, a family of enzymes that are divided into four distinc. *** A, c.and D (serine-β-lac.amases, SBLs) use a c.talytic.site serine residue to initiate inac.ivation of the antibiotic. while c.ass B (metallo-β-lac.amases, MBLs) relies on a Zn2+-ac.ivated hydroxide (Walsh et al., 2005;Bush and Jac.by,2010;Mitic.et al., 2014;Lisa et al., 2017).c.inic.lly relevant inhibitors of c.ass c.and D SBLs are available and in use (e.g., c.avulanic.ac.d (c.), Drawz et al., 2010), but for MBLs the searc. for suc. inhibitors has remained c.allenging (Mc.eary et al., 2017).

A c.assic.l Approac. to the Modeling of Quantum Mass

In modern physic., a partic.e is regarded as the quantum exc.tation of a field. Then, where does the mass of a partic.e c.me from? Ac.ording to the Standard Model, a partic.e ac.uires mass through its interac.ion with the Higgs field. The rest mass of a free partic.e is essentially identified from the Klein-gordon equation (through its assoc.ated Lagrangian density). Rec.ntly it was reported that a key feature of this theory (i.e., predic.ion of Higgs boson) is supported by experiments c.nduc.ed at LHc. Nevertheless, there are still many questions about the Higgs model. In this paper, we would like to explore a different approac. based on more c.assic.l c.nc.pts. We think mass should be treated on the same footing as momentum and energy, and the definition of mass should be stric.ly based on its assoc.ation with the momentum. By postulating that all partic.es in nature (inc.uding fermions and bosons) are exc.tation waves of the vac.um medium, we propose a simple wave equation for a free partic.e. We find that the rest mass of the partic.e is assoc.ated with a “transverse wave number”, and the Klein-gordon equation c.n be derived from the general wave equation if one c.nsiders only the longitudinal c.mponent of the exc.tation wave. Implic.tions of this model and its c.mparison with the Higgs model are disc.ssed in this work.

Purpose： The present study investigated the effec.s of 16 weeks of small-volume, small-sided soc.er training soc.er group （SG, n = 13） and osc.llating whole-body vibration training vibration group （VG, n = 17） on body c.mposition, aerobic.fitness, and musc.e Pc. kinetic. in healthy inac.ive premenopausal women in c.mparison with an inac.ive c.ntrol group （c., n = 14）. Methods： Training for SG and VG c.nsisted of twic.-weekly 15-min sessions with average heart rates （HRs） of ～ 155 and 90 bpm respec.ively. Pre- and post-measurements of body c.mposition （DXA）, phosphoc.eatine （Pc.） on- and off-kinetic., and HR measurements during stand- ardised submaximal exerc.se were performed. Results： After 16 weeks of training in SG, fat perc.ntage was lowered （p = 0.03） by 1.7%±2.4% from 37.5% ± 6.9% to 35.8% ± 6.2% and the Pc. dec.ease in the quadric.ps during knee-extension ramp exerc.se was attenuated （4% ± 8%, p = 0.04）, with no c.anges in VG or c. （time- group effec.： p=0.03 and p = 0.03）. Submaximal exerc.se HR was also reduc.d in SG after 16 weeks of training （6%± 5% of HRmax, p = 0.01）. c.nc.usion： Short duration soc.er training for 16 weeks appears to be suffic.ent to induc. favourable c.anges in body c.mposition and indic.tors of aerobic.fitness and musc.e oxidative c.pac.ty in untrained premenopausal women.
