c.ntrasting multiple organisms with similar c.ntemporary distributions, researc.ers c.n identify shared evolutionary patterns and provide historic.l c.ntext for c.mmunity c.mposition. We used three spec.es c.mplexes with overlapping distributions in Southeastern c.ina and surrounding islands to explore the phylogeographic.history of the region. Despite similar geographic.distributions, genetic.data revealed few c.ngruent patterns, but all c.mplexes displayed genetic.divergenc. for Taiwan Residents populations. Additionally, nic.e modeling and divergenc. dating did not find support for diversific.tion assoc.ated with the Last Glac.al Maximum [c.rrent Zoology 61 （5）： 943-950,2015].

Photobiomodulation (PBM)- the irradiation of c.lls or tissues with low-intensity red to near-infrared light - is emerging as an effec.ive means of enhanc.ng c.ll and tissue resilienc. and repair. As reviewed elsewhere (Gordon et al., 2019), the intrac.llular effec.s of PBM appear to be primarily mediated by c.toc.rome c.oxidase, a key enzyme in the mitoc.ondrial respiratory c.ain and a primary photoac.eptor of red to near-infrared light. Absorption of light by c.toc.rome c.oxidase alters its redox state, resulting in inc.eased ATP produc.ion, the liberation of nitric.oxide and a transient burst in reac.ive oxygen spec.es.

Optic.l emission spec.rosc.py （OES） was applied for plasma c.arac.erization during the erosion of asphaltene substrates. An amount of 100 mg of asphaltene was c.refully applied to an elec.rode and exposed to air-plasma glow disc.arge at a pressure of 1.0 Torr. The plasma was generated in a stainless steel disc.arge c.amber by an ac.generator at a frequenc. of 60 Hz, output power of 50 W and a gas flow rate of 1.8 L/min. The elec.ron temperature and ion density were estimated to be 2.15±0.11 eV and （1.24±0.05）× 10^16 m^-3, respec.ively, using a double Langmuir probe. OES was employed to observe the emission from the asphaltene exposed to air plasma. Both molec.lar band emission from N2, N2＋, OH, c., NH, O2 as well as c., and atomic.light emission from V and Hγ were observed and used to monitor the evolution of asphaltene erosion. The asphaltene erosion was analyzed with the aid of a sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.pe （SEM） equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray （EDX） detec.or. The EDX analysis showed that the time evolution of elements c. O, S and V were similar and the c.emic.l c.mposition of the exposed asphaltenes remained c.nstant. Partic.e size evolution was measured, showing a maximum size of 2307 μm after 60 min. This behavior is most likely related to partic.e agglomeration as a func.ion of time.

In many applic.tions, suc. as biomedic.l engineering, it is often required to extrac. a desired signal instead of all sourc. signals. This c.n be ac.ieved by blind sourc. extrac.ion （BSE） or semi-blind sourc. extrac.ion, whic. is a powerful tec.nique emerging from the neural network field. In this paper, we propose an effic.ent semi-blind sourc. extrac.ion algorithm to extrac. a desired sourc. signal as its first output signal by using a priori information about its kurtosis range. The algorithm is robust to outliers and spiky noise bec.use of adopting a c.assic.l robust c.ntrast func.ion. And it is also robust to the estimation errors of the kurtosis range of the desired signal providing the estimation errors are not large. The algorithm has good extrac.ion performanc., even in some poor situations when the kurtosis values of some sourc. signals are very c.ose to eac. other. Its c.nvergenc. stability and robustness are theoretic.lly analyzed. Simulations and experiments on artific.al generated data and real-world data have c.nfirmed these results.

Maximizing NO3 uptake during seedling development is important as it has a major influenc. on plant growth and yield. However, little is known about the proc.sses leading to, and involved in, the initiation of root NO3 uptake c.pac.ty in developing seedlings. This study examines the physiologic.l proc.sses involved in root NO3 uptake and metabolism, to gain an understanding of how the NO3 uptake system responds to meet demand as maize seedlings transition from seed N use to external N c.pture. The c.nc.ntrations of seedderived free amino ac.ds within root and shoot tissues are initially high, but dec.ease rapidly until stabilizing eight days after imbibition （DAI）. Similarly, shoot N% dec.eases, but does not stabilize until 12-13 DAI. Following the dec.ease in free amino ac.d c.nc.ntrations, root NO3- uptake c.pac.ty inc.eases until shoot N% stabilizes. The inc.ease in root NO3 uptake c.pac.ty c.rresponds with a rapid rise in transc.ipt levels of putative NO3 transporters, ZmNRT2.1 and ZmNRT2.2. The proc.sses underlying the inc.ease in root NO3- uptake c.pac.ty to meet N demand provide an insight into the proc.sses c.ntrolling N uptake.

In many songbird spec.es,birdsong features phonologic.l syntax,meaning that the units within their voc.l se-quenc.s are ordered in a non-random way that adheres to a *** suc. syntac.ic.l patterns have been ric.ly desc.ibed in many spec.es,c.mparatively little is known about how those patterns c.ntribute to song ac.ieving its important *** eac. of song’s main func.ions,territorial defense and mate attrac.ion,evidenc. of a role for syntax is *** spec.es for whic. syntax has been thoroughly desc.ibed is the Hermit Thrush(c.tharus guttatus),whic. presents song types from their repertoires in a semi-predic.able order and,in doing so,rapidly c.c.e up and down the frequenc. *** objec.ive of the present study was to explore the importanc. of song syntax in the Hermit Thrush through a within-subjec. examination of how measures of syntax,suc. as the predic.ability of song type order within song sequenc.s,shift over the breeding *** hypothesized that,if suc. syntac.ic.l c.arac.eristic. are important to breeding behaviour,they would be most prominent at the start of the breeding season when ac.ivity assoc.ated with territory establishment and mate attrac.ion is most *** revealed that,as predic.ed,the rigidness of song type ordering within se-quenc.s was highest at the start of the season and dec.ined *** song type sequenc.s were most predic.able at the vitally important early part of the breeding season fit our hypothesis that this aspec. of song syntax is important to song’s func.ions related to territory establishment and/or mate *** work will c.arify whether that role relates to one of song’s two main func.ions or serves song transmission in some broader way.
