AIM: To assess the impact of procollagen Ⅲ peptide as a marker of collagenesis in the development of pseudopolyps in patients with ulcerative ***: Development of pseudopolyps was monitored in 25 patients with ulcerative colitis classified according to Powell-Tuck index as mild (n=12) or moderate (n=13) form of disease. Patients with a mild form of disease were treated with oral mesalazine medication (2-4 g/day) and local mesalazine preparation (suppository). Patients with a moderate form of disease received oral mesalazine medication (2-4 g/day), local mesalazine preparation(suppository) and local methylprednisolone at an initial dose of 60 rag/day, followed by dose tapering. How many significant variables (previously determined by analysis of variance) were elevated in the groups with and without pseudopolyp developement was observed. ROC analysis for calculation of new index was ***: Serum values of procollagen Ⅲ peptide (PⅢP), C-reactive protein (CRP) and C4 complement component (C4)were statistically significantly lower in the group of patients flee from pseudopolyp development bhan bhose who developed one or more pseudopolyps (0.45±0.12 vs 1.42±0.70,P0.05).Discrimination function analysis yielded highest standardized cannon coefficients for PⅢP (0.876), CRP (0.104), C3 (-0.534) and C4 (0.184) (P<0.036). High Altitude: A Possible Reason for Postoperative Bleeding after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Operations

Background: This study evaluated the possible hypothesis that high altitude might be a reason of excessive postoperative drainage after coronary artery bypass graft operations (CABG). Methods: 212 patients were operated by the same surgical team and included to the study with retrospective data scan on postoperative bleeding after elective CABG with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Study was derived from two different altitude centers: Group A patients (n = 107) from the center at an altitude of 1985 meters and Group B patients (n = 105) from the center in approximately sea level with 150 meters altitude. Multiple preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative characteristics with postoperative bleeding amounts were reviewed and calculated to determine a result through the aim of our study. Results: Preoperative, operative and intraoperative parameters for both groups were almost identical. Statistically significance occurred on intensive care unit treatment period, total hospitalization days, usage of erythrocyte suspension and fresh frozen plasma among postoperative periods on behalf of Group B. Parameters such as CABG numbers, Cross clamp and CPB time were not significant. High altitude patients were considered to be with a higher outcome in preoperative hematocrit (Htc) levels which did not occur in the study group. Htc levels presented a slight elevation for Group A as in the preoperative values but a statistically significance was not calculated. Postoperative bleeding volumes and calculated mean values were statistically significantly different among both groups in days of 1, 2 and 3. Reoperations for hemorrhage occurred in 9 cases (8.4%) in Group A and 4 cases (3.8%) in Group B. Conclusions: We want to attract attention to the relation between high altitude and postoperative bleeding after CABG surgery. But yet uncertain and unidentified physiological and biochemical conditions can be a reason as an uncontrollable perioperative factor in this patients. Operatio

Comparison of the Modified Eversion Carotid Endarterectomy Technique with the Conventional Carotid Endarterectomy Technique: Early Results

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to compare early results of the modified eversion carotid endarterectomy technique with the conventional carotid endarterectomy technique. The modified eversion carotid endarterectomy technique consisted of a longitudinal arteriotomy that was begun from the common carotid artery proximally to the origin of external carotid artery. We also avoided applying a carotid shunt during surgery in both techniques. Methods: Each patient was evaluated for coronary artery stenosis and valve replacement indications. Diagnosis of significant coronary artery stenosis or valve disease directed us to a combination of CEA and cardiac surgery (CABG/Valvular). We generally had a tendency to perform these two surgical procedures separately. Patients which had surgery for both at the same session were excluded in this study. As a result, our study included 120 patients and 137 carotid interventions. We performed the modified eversion carotid endarterectomy technique in 61 patients (68 carotid interventions) (Group A) and the conventional CEA technique in 59 patients (69 carotid interventions) (Group B). At follow-up, the patients were evaluated by physical examination and color Doppler USG. Results: There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of demographic data. Statistically significant difference was observed in one operative parameter between Group A and Group B;patchplasty requirements during surgery (12 carotid interventions in group B and 4 carotid interventions in group A, p = 0.036). We recorded temporary tongue deviation in five cases, facial asymmetry in eight cases, hoarseness in four cases, neurocognitive impairment in three cases and transient neurologic in two cases with no significant difference between the groups. There was in one case of permanent neurologic deficit (1 in group B). There were two postoperative deaths (1 in group A and 1 in group B). The death in group A occurred because of subarachnoid haemorrhage

The presented article discusses the results of survey of the Most lake, which was created within hydric recultivation of the site of the former brown-coal mine Most Lezaky in northern Bohemia in the Czech Republic. The survey discovered plants which belong to ruderal, wetland, halophilic and xerothermal species based on their life strategy. The discovered endangered species include Carex secalina, Schoenoplectus tabaernemontani, Salsola call subsp. Rosacea and Tetragonolobus maritimus. A total of 350 species of vascular plants were discovered in the study area. During the monitoring, a total of 146 bird species were discovered. The monitored location can be currently considered as a significant gathering place namely for aquatic and wetland bird species during the winter period and the migration period （e.g., Tachybaptus ruficollis, Podiceps cristatus, Anser anser, Anas platyrhynchos, Anas strepera, Fulica atra and various species of Larus sp.） and as a significant area of occurrence of relatively rare species bound to anthropogenetically disturbed areas of mining and post-mining landscape （e.g., Anthus campestris, Anthus pratensis, Motacillaflava, Oenanthe oenanthe, Saxicola rubetra and Saxicola torquata）. Within the monitoring of the water quality, the saprobic index values （S） ranged in 2013 between 1.62 and 1.92.

Correlation of Abortus Imminence Cases in the First Trimester with Biochemical Markers

Objective: In this study, we compared the biochemical markers of imminent abortion, missed abortion, and healthy pregnant women in the first trimester to see if there were any differences. Materials and Methods: The study method is prospective. Pregnant women who applied to the obstetrics clinic of Istanbul Training and Research Hospital between 01.04.22 and 31.10.22 were diagnosed with abortion imminens or missed abortion between 6 weeks and 12 weeks or had normal pregnancy follow-up, had no chronic diseases, and did not take magnesium and calcium supplements were included in the study. 20 pregnant women with missed abortion, 20 pregnant women with abortion imminens diagnosis and 20 normal pregnant women who met the criteria were included in the study. Magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) and hemogram (CBC) levels were checked in pregnant women included in the study. Results: The Mg, Cu, Zn, and CBC values of the study participants’ women did not differ in a statistically significant way. When compared to pregnant women who had a normal pregnancy process, the difference in Ca value was found to be statistically substantially smaller in pregnant women who were diagnosed with abortion imminens and missed abortion. The findings of our study suggest that serum Ca levels be measured prior to conception or at the initial visit. Conclusion: Serum Ca levels were found to be significantly lower in the missed abortion group than in the abortus imminens and normal pregnant groups in our study (p 0.05).

Aortic Neocuspidization with Autologous Pericardium: Initial Experience of Single Center

Background: Aortic neo-cuspidization (AVNeo) procedure has been adopted by limited centers with the publication of the mid-long term successful results. The aim of this study was to present initial experience of the AVNeo procedure of a single center. Methods: The medical records of 24 patients who underwent AVNeo with or without concomitant cardiac surgery between February 2019 and February 2021 at our tertiary hospital were scanned retrospectively. Results: The mean age of patients was aged 58.21 ± 13.14 years and 16 (66.7%) of them were men. 16 patients were operated on for aortic stenosis (66.67%). Morphology of the aortic valve was tricuspid in 21 (87.5%) and bicuspid in 3 (12.5%) of the patients. Additional cardicac surgery was performed in 13 (54.17%) patients. No patients needed reoperation for bleeding, pacemaker implantations, conversion to classical prosthetic aortic valve replacement, or infective endocarditis. Two patients died due to non-cardiac reasons. Preoperative peak and mean aortic valve pressures improved significantly at 1st and 6th months (Preop: 89.06 ± 21.88 mmHg and 56.38 ± 15.09 mmHg 1st month: 22.00 ± 3.93 mmHg and 8.73 ± 2.60 mmHg, 6th month: 18.13 ± 3.02 mmHg and 6.93 ± 1.83 mmH
