For most particle-based applications, formulation in the liquid phase is a decisive step, and thus, particle interactions and stability in liquid media are of major importance. The concept of Hansen solubility parameters (HSP) was initially invented to describe the interactions of (polymer) molecules and their solubility in different liquids and is increasingly being used in particle technology to describe dispersibility. Because dispersions are not thermodynamically stable, the term Hansen dispersibility parameters (HDP) is used instead of HSP (Siie, Sobisch, Peukert, Lerche,& Segets, 2018). Herein, we extend a previously developed standardized and non-subjective method for determination of Hansen parameters based on analytical centrifugation to the important class of quantum materials. As a technically relevant model system, zinc oxide quantum dots (QDs) were used to transfer our methodology to nanoparticles (NPs) with sizes below lOnm. The results obtained using the standard procedure starting from a dried powder were compared with those obtained through redispersion from the wet sediment produced during the typical washing procedure of QDs, and drying was observed to play an important role. In conclusion, our study reveals the high potential of HDP for quantifying the interfacial properties of NPs as well as their link to dispersibility.

The article describes the experiences of alternative materials for the manufacturing of the refractory materi- als in the company P-D Refractories CZ a. s. The atten- tion is focused on energy by-products （eBP）. energy by-products are generated during burning and desul- phurization in thermal power plants. Classical high-tem- perature -fly ash （class *** ash according to ASTm C618） is the most important and .fly ash from .fluidized technology （ class C-fly ash） is the second group. In the Czech Republic, power plants produce about 14 million tons of energy by-products every year. Utilization of these products in ceramic technology means a reduction of raw material costs and also it helps to reduce adverse environ- mental impact. Class F-fly ash （ FFA ） and cinder from high temperature combustion （CD） were used in light- weight insulation fireclay bricks. We can use these mate- rials as a grog and a lightening agent for materials with bulk density over 900 kg · m-3 and classification tem- perature up to 1 150 ℃. Class *** ash （CFA） is be- ing tested in a wide range of the refractory materials. For example, it can be used in lightweight fireclay bricks, fireclay bricks for stoves, acid-resistant fireclay bricks or refractory castables. The range of potential products, where eBP could be used, is very wide and energy by-products have become an important raw mate- rial source.

Biochar improves diary pasture yields by alleviating P and K constraints with no influence on soil respiration or N2O emissions

green-light fundus autofluorescence in diabetic macular edema

AIm:To evaluate the role of central green-light fundus autofluorescence (FAF) in diabetic macular edema(Dme). meTHODS:A consecutive series of 92 study eyes with diabetic retinopathy were included. Out of those, 51 diabetic eyes had Dme and were compared to 41 diabetic eyes without Dme. In all subjects, green-light FAF images were obtained, quantified and classified into various FAF patterns. Cross-sectional optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans were obtained for evaluation of Inner/Outer segment (IS/OS) layer integrity, measurements of central RPe-IS/OS layer thickness as well as classification of Dme into various subtypes. ·ReSULTS:meancentralgreen-lightFAFintensityofeyes with Dme (1.289 ±0.140)log did not significantly differ from diabetic patients without Dme (1.317 ±0.137)log. most classifiable FAF patterns were seen in patients with cystoid Dme. mean central retinal thickness (CRT) of all study eyes with Dme was (501.9±112.4)μm compared to (328.2±27.0)μm in diabetic patients without Dme. Patients with Dme had significantly more disrupted photoreceptor IS/OS layers than diabetic patients without Dme (28/51 vs 5/41, P mean RPe-IS/OS thickness of patients with Dme (60.7±14.1)μm was significantly (Per than in diabetic eyes without Dme (73.5 ±9.4)μm. Correlation analysis revealed non-significant correlations of green-light FAF intensity and OCT parameters in all subtypes of Dme. ·CONCLUSION:Our results indicate a poor correlation of central green-light FAF intensity with CRT, IS/OS layer integrity or RPe-IS/OS layer thickness in diabetic patients with or without Dme and its various subtypes. Thus, central green-light FAF is not suitable for detection of retinal thickening in Dme.

Correlation of leaking microaneurysms with retinal thickening in diabetic retinopathy

Introduction:Bats are threatened by agricultural intensification,and although bat ecology in agricultural landscapes is in the focus of current research,the effects of interacting spatiotemporal factors on species-specific bat activity above farmland remain *** aim was to identify spatiotemporal factors and their interactions relevant for the activity of bat species above conventionally managed arable ***:We repeatedly monitored relative bat activity above open arable fields in germany using acoustic *** used site-related biotic and abiotic factors and landscape characteristics across five spatial scales,their combinations,and interactions to identify those factors which best explain variation in bat ***:Numerous interactions between landscape characteristics and the insect abundance affected bat activity above *** instance,Pipistrellus pipistrellus became more active with increasing insect abundance,but only above fields with a low proportion of woody vegetation cover in the ***,the level of bat activity in summer depended on landscape *** example,the activity of Pipistrellus nathusii was relatively low in summer above fields that were surrounded by vegetation patches with a high degree of edge complexity(e.g.,hedgerow).However,the activity remained at a relatively high level and did not differ between seasons above fields that were surrounded by vegetation patches with a low degree of edge complexity(e.g.,roundly shaped forest patch).Conclusions:Our results revealed that landscape characteristics and their interactions with insect abundance affected bat activity above conventionally managed fields and highlighted the opportunistic foraging behavior of *** improve the conditions for bats in agricultural landscapes,we recommend re-establishing landscape heterogeneity to protect aquatic habitats and to increase arthropod availability.
