Molecular Analyses of Early-Onset Gastric Cancer in Brazilian Patients: TP53 Mutations, Cadherin-Catenin and Mucins Proteins Expression

Early gastric carcinomas may develop with a molecular profile differing from sporadic carcinomas occurring at a later age. In this study, we analyzed a retrospective series of 88 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma diagnosed before the age of 45 years for the presence of TP53 mutations, clinicopathological features and immunohistochemistry to evaluate the expression of markers considered to be important in gastric carcinogenesis (E-cadherin, β-catenin, MUC1, MUC2, MUC5AC, MUC6 and p53). The majority of proportion of tumors were diffuse-type (70%) and advanced stage (56%). Familial history of cancer was positive in 21% of the cases. There was a significant association between altered expression of E-cadherin and β-catenin, and between p53 expression and perineural invasion. TP53 mutations were detected in 14.5% of evaluated cases, including a germline mutation (p.r337H) in a 12-year old patient. Overall survival analysis showed significant differences in relation with tumor stage and histopathology. The evaluated biomarkers did not present prognostic value in non-exploratory multivariate analyses. The low frequency of TP53 mutations in this series suggests these alterations are not a major molecular event in gastric cancer occurring at early age, although the identification of a case with germline p.r337H mutation is consistent with the hypothesis that a small proportion of early, apparently sporadic gastric cancer, may be associated with widespread Brazilian founder mutations. Further studies are needed to evaluate the prognostic significance of markers for specific groups of patients according to tumor histology and familial history.

The biology of a koinobiont parasitoid of leaf-cutting ant larvae, Szelenyiopria talitae (Hymenoptera: Diapriidae), was studied from naturally infested Acromyrmex subterraneus (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) nests. Nests were collected in the field from the Atlantic rainforest biome in the state of rio de Janeiro. A total of fifty-three nests were collected from 2015 to 2018. Parasitized nests were only found during the months of September and October. Approximately 22% of the nests collected over a four-year period were found to have been parasitized by S. talitae. The mean within-nest parasitism rate was 66.3%. This diapriid displayed both solitary (14%) and gregarious parasitism (86%), with up to a maximum of 12 parasitoids developing within a single host. Gregarious parasitism with two (29%) or three (21%) S. talitae per host was most frequently observed. There was a positive correlation between the number of parasitoids per host and host size (dry weight), indicating that S. talitae females oviposited a higher number of eggs in larger hosts. Modeling Assessment of renewable Energy to Design Business Plans of Power Options Aimed Energy Planning

The objective of this paper is the evaluation of business opportunities attractiveness in rEr (renewable-energy resources) within a specific geographic area, and using some concepts of integrated energy-resource planning. The proposed methodology includes the main figures of economic merit evaluated to each resource assessed, the sensitivity analysis on cash flow, and recommendations of investments to each energy option assessed. A study case is applied within the northwest region of Sao Paulo State (Brazil) for those renewable-energy options. Five options of renewable-energy resources were chosen to be evaluated: three Ers (energy resources) from supply side (small hydro, wind farms and sugarcane bagasse) and two Ers from demand side (replacement of incandescent lighting by fluorescent and replacement of electric showers by central heating systems). The conclusion is that, only two assessed Ers that have received investment grade were sugarcane biomass and fluorescent lamps replacing incandescent lamps. The rest have restriction due different reasons listed.

Under the renewable energy context, sugarcane biomass pyrolysis has been growing as a convenient route to produce bio-oil, which can be set into the chemical industry and refineries as building blocks or combustion fuel. In this work sugarcane straw was submitted to direct pyrolysis in a fluidized bed pilot plant at 500°C, in presence of air. Sugarcane in natura was also pyrolysed as a model for comparison, in order to determine the viability of processing different sources of raw biomass. The physicochemical characterization of the biomass precursors as well as of the bio-oils was also carried out, which points both biomass feedstocks as suitable for bio-oil production in terms of viscosity, surface tension, density and acidity. The bio-oil obtained from sugarcane in natura presented higher carbon and hydrogen content as well as lower oxygen content. On the other hand, the metal content is higher in the bio-oil obtained from sugarcane straw, in special the iron and potassium contents were 807 ppm and 123 ppm against 27 ppm and 1 ppm in the bio-oil from sugarcane in natura. Aliphatic and aromatic compounds as well as carbohydrates scaffolds were identified as the main components of the bio-oil. GC-MS analyses showed aromatic products from lignine fragmentation and free sugars and sugar derivatives.

Amyloidosis is the result of fibrous and insoluble amyloid protein deposition in extracellular spaces of tissues and organs, including the skin. Through the analysis of medical records, clinical condition and laboratory tests, this article proposes a rare case report of an adult patient with symptoms and diagnosis of polymyositis, histopathology of nodular amyloidosis with skin lesions suggestive of lupus. The patient is still being followed at the dermatology clinic of Valença Medical School, in order to improve the prognosis and prevent the progression of existing symptoms.

A mathematical model for shortening waiting time in pancreas-kidney transplantation

AIM: To simulate a hypothetical increase of 50% in the number of pancreas-kidney (PK) transplantations using less-than-ideal donors by a mathematical model. METHODS: We projected the size of the waiting list by taking into account the incidence of new patients per year, the number of PK transplantations carried out in the year and the number of patients who died on the waiting list or were removed from the list for other reasons. These variables were treated using a model developed elsewhere. rESULTS: We found that the waiting list demand will meet the number of PK transplantation by the year 2022. CONCLUSION: In future years, it is perfectly possible to minimize the waiting list time for pancreas transplantation through expansion of the donor pool using less-than-ideal donors.

目的：评估2种粘接系统[Adper Single Bond plus（3MESPE）和Clearfil SEBOND（Kuraray）]与预先是否经过Nd：YAG激光或Nd：YAG激光加氟处理的正常或龋坏牙本质粘接后的微拉伸力。材料和方法：将60颗离体第三磨牙的牙本质表面暴露后分为12组。1～6组经过pH循环产生人工龋，7～12组保持正常牙本质。牙本质表面采用3种处理方法：Nd：YAG激光照射（60mJ，15Hz．09w）1min：Nd：YAG激光照射联合氟凝胶处理：不处理（对照组）。实验组根据产品说明书要求应用粘接材料并分层堆塑制成复合树脂块（FiItek Z250．3M ESPE），牙齿沿X和Y轴方向做连续片切．应用万能试验仪进行微拉伸力试验。结果：通过ANOVA和Tukey统计分析（P〈0.05）发现正常牙本质应用Clearfil SE Bond组的平均粘接力最大（4065MPa）．SingleBond组次之（342MPa）。龋坏牙本质组无论是否事先经过激光照射应用两种粘接系统后的粘接力明显下降。但激光照射后应用Clearfil SE Bond组微拉伸粘接力最高。另外．激光照射联合氟化物处理后应用两种粘接系统的微拉伸力有所下降。结论：与全酸蚀粘接系统和激光照射相比．临床上在备洞时用激光照射龋坏牙本质．然后应用自酸蚀粘接系统可以获得较高的粘接力。

Automatic Modulation Classification Using Information Theoretic Similarity Measures

Modern wireless systems employ adaptive techniques to provide high throughput while observing desired coverage, QoS (quality of service) and capacity. An alternative to further enhance data rate is to apply cognitive radio concepts, where a system is able to exploit unused spectrum on existing licensed bands by "sensing" the spectrum and opportunistically access unused portions. Techniques like AMC (automatic modulation classification) could help or be vital for such scenarios. Usually, AMC implementations rely on some form of signal pre-processing, which may introduce a high computational cost or make assumptions about the received signal which may not hold (e. g., Gaussianity of noise). This work proposes a new method to perform AMC which uses a similarity measure from the ITL (information theoretic learning) framework, known as correntropy coefficient. It is capable of extracting similarity measurements over a pair of random processes using higher order statistics, yielding in better similarity estimations than by using e. g. correlation coefficient. Experiments with binary modulations show that in the presence of AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise), a 97% success rate in classification is achieved at a SNr (signal-to-noise rate) of 5 dB without requiring any pre-processing at all.

Opportunities for remote Collaboration in a Social Web Search Model That Integrates Parents and Children

Traditionally, search engines are designed to support a single user working alone. However, the construction of knowledge is enriched when one adds collaboration to search tasks. We identified opportunities for remote collaboration in a Social Web search model that integrates parents and children guided by 5W + 1H (who, what, where, when, why, how) dimensions. Our social search model aims at improving the search process for children. We found 7 opportunities for remote collaboration on the search process, based on implicit-explicit interactions.

An innovative inversion code, named “Curupira v1.0”, has been developed using Matlab to determine the vertical distribution of resistivity beneath the subsoil. The program integrates Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES), successful in shallow subsurface exploration and Time Domain Electromagnetic (TEM) techniques, better suited for deeper exploration, both of which are widely employed in geophysical exploration. These methodologies involve calculating subsurface resistivity through appropriate inversion processes. To address the ill-posed nature of inverse problems in geophysics, a joint inversion scheme combining VES and TEM data has been incorporated into Curupira v1.0. The software has been tested on both synthetic and real-world data, the latter of which was acquired from the Parana sedimentary basin which we summarise here. The results indicate that the joint inversion of VES and TEM techniques offers improved recovery of simulated models and demonstrates significant potential for hydrogeological studies.
