Effect of Molasses Addition at Ensiling on ruminal In Situ Dry Matter and Nutrient Degradation of Whole-Plant Soybean Silage Harvested at Different Phenological Stages

Whole-plant soybean ensiling has limitations and challenges that affect silage fermentation patterns and reduce ruminal nutrient degradation. Perhaps either the addition of molasses at ensiling or harvesting at different phenological stages has the potential to enhance whole-plant soybean silage (WSS) ruminal degradation. This experiment was a completely randomized design with a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments evaluating the effects of molasses (0 and 40 g/kg fresh forage) and phenological stage (r5: beginning seed, r6: full seed, and r7: beginning maturity) on ruminal in situ degradation. Molasses increased effective ruminal degradability (ErD) of dry matter (DM) regardless of the phenological stage and increased ErD of crude protein at r5 and r6. The addition of molasses at later phenological stages increased ErD of neutral detergent fiber (NDF). There was a molasses × phenological stage interaction effect with greater fractions A and B of NDF at r7 and r5, respectively, but lower undegraded NDF at r5 and r6 with molasses addition. Although the benefits of adding molasses were more pronounced in r5 and r6, adding molasses to whole-plant soybean at ensiling is recommended regardless of phenological stage. Increasing the proportion of digestible nutrients at harvesting either by harvesting at later phenological stages or the addition of molasses is a powerful strategy to manage ruminal degradation of DM and nutrients in WSS.

Leukocyte-technetium-99m uptake in Crohn's disease:Does it show subclinical disease?

AIM:To evaluate inflammatory activity in patients with Crohn's disease (CD) using technetium-99m-hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime (99mTc-HMPAO) granulocyte ***: Twenty patients (7 male and 13 female) with CD and five healthy volunteers were selected for 99mTc-HMPAO granulocyte scintigraphy. The Crohn's Disease Activity Index (CDAI), blood tests and C-reactive protein (CrP) of each patient were performed 7 d before the scintigraphic images. The leukocytes were labeled according to the International Society of radiolabeled Blood Elements (ISOrBE) consensus protocol and the scintigraphic images, including single photon emission computed tomography, were obtained 30 min and 2 h after injection of the radiolabeled ***:The labeling yield of the leukocytes with the lipophilic complex 99mTc-HMPAO was 55.0%±10%. Six of the 20 patients (30%) presented congruent results for the three parameters investigated (CDAI, Scintigraphic Index and CrP). On the other hand, 14 patients (70%) did not show congruent results. There was no significant correlation between the indices analyzed according to the Spearman test (P>0.05,n=20).CONCLUSION: The results suggest that 99mTc-HMPAO-labeled leukocyte scintigraphy could be important for determining inflammatory activity in CD even in the absence of clinical symptoms.

An Integrated Approach for Process Control Valves Diagnosis Using Fuzzy Logic

Control valves are widely used in industry to control fluid flow in several applications. In nuclear power systems they are crucial for the safe operation of plants. Therefore, the necessity of improvements in monitoring and diagnosis methods started to be of extreme relevance, establishing as main goal of the reliability and readiness of the system components. The main focus of this work is to study the development of a model of non-intrusive monitoring and diagnosis applied to process control valves using artificial intelligence by fuzzy logic technique, contributing to the development of predictive methodologies identifying faults in incipient state. Specially in nuclear power plants, the predictive maintenance contributes to the security factor in order to diagnose in advance the occurrence of a possible failure, preventing severs situations. The control valve analyzed belongs to a steam plant which simulates the secondary circuit of a PWr—Pressurized Water reactor. The maintenance programs are being implemented based on the ability to diagnose modes of degradation and to take measures to prevent incipient failures, improving plant reliability and reducing maintenance costs. The approach described in this paper represents an alternative departure from the conventional qualitative techniques of system analysis. The methodology used in this project is based on signatures analysis, considering the pressure (psi) in the actuator and the stem displacement (mm) of the valve. Once the measurements baseline of the control valve is taken, it is possible to detect long-term deviations during valve lifetime, detecting in advance valve failures. This study makes use of MATLAB language through the “fuzzy logic toolbox” which uses the method of inference “Mamdani”, acting by fuzzy conjunction, through Triangular Norms (t-norm) and Triangular Conorms (t-conorm). Evaluation of renewable Energy Vulnerability to Climate Change in Brazil: A Case Study of Biofuels and Solar Energy

This study aims to calculate indicators and indexes to subsidize the analysis of vulnerability and adaptation of the renewable energy sector to climate change in Brazil, focusing on biofuels and solar energy. For biofuels, in general, the Brazilian coast will be a propitious area for agricultural productivity during the XXI century, but these are areas historically intended for occupation and development of the urbanization process, that is, with limited land availability and supply for primary production. In some parts of the Northeast, Midwest and South of the country, offer for the cultivation land will be reduced. For the solar energy is observed that Brazil has area and highly expressive power for the use of this power, both today and in the coming decades, especially in the North, Northeast and Midwest. In statistical terms, the Mann-Kendal test and Sen’s Bend point to a very weak tendency to useful radiation indicator in all regions of Brazil by 2100. In addition, it is projected a significant increase in mean air temperature by the end of XXI century across the country that can mean a reduction in power conversion capability, which is sensitive to ambient temperature variations, especially in the Midwest and North of the country.

The objective of this work is a multi-criteria decision-making assessment that aims to facilitate the Energy-Efficiency Economics, introducing the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as part of power-system planning tool for an energy-efficiency application. It addresses to include qualitative aspects in the decision-making agendas of energy-efficiency projects. The manuscript details the limitations of non-rigorous financial analysis and proposes an alternative for including energy-efficiency measures in discussions pertaining to the financial opportunities available to any investor, and it presents the methodology that supports the qualitative aspects and the software package used to execute this methodology. As case study a complete example including a sensitivity analysis is presented.

Three Different Doses of Intrathecal Morphine as Part of a Multimodal regimen for Post-Cesarean Delivery Analgesia: A randomized Double-Blinded Trial

Brazil is one of the countries that carry out cesarean delivery in the world. The pain after cesarean delivery (CD) is one of the main concerns of parturient. Intrathecal Morphine (ITM) is widely used for the treatment of pain after CD;however, the optimal dose with minimal side effects is to be established. Objectives: To compare the analgesia and side effects resulted by three different doses of ITM as part of a multimodal regimen for post-cesarean delivery analgesia. Methods: One hundred ninety-four patients were sampled in this randomized, double-blinded, three-arm study (group 0.075: ITM 0.75 mg;group 0.1: ITM 0.1 mg and group 0.15: ITM 0.15 mg). All patients received intravenous dexamethasone, dipyrone and ketoprofen. The primary endpoint was pain intensity measured at rest and on movement, while the secondary endpoint was overall satisfaction with pain relief, the incidence of nausea and vomiting, intensity of pruritus, and the use of additional tramadol, antipruritic and antiemetic use within 24 hours after postoperation. results: The three groups showed similar pain intensity at rest and on movement. The pain intensity on movement was significantly higher than at rest in the groups (p 0.001). There were no significant differences among the groups regarding secondary endpoint. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that in cases of an elective CD, 0.075 mg of ITM produces postoperative analgesia of similar quality that provided by 0.1 or 0.15 mg ITM. The patients should have a multimodal analgesia approach that includes: ITM, anti-inflammatory agents and access to additional systemic analgesic if necessary.

The paper addresses a literature review of the technologies used in the transmission of measuring and logging data during well drilling. It presents a discussion about efficiency in data density transmission and reliability, especially when it comes to software and automated tools. Initially, this paper analyzes the principle of the telemetry systems, considering the mud pulse telemetry, acoustic telemetry, electromagnetic telemetry and wired drill pipe telemetry. They were detailed highlighting information about functionality, data transmission and its linkage to supporting software. Focus is also given to details of the main advantages and disadvantages of each technology considering the influences of lithology, drilling fluid and formation fluids in the reliability and capacity of data transmission.

In recent decades,third-generation(3G)biofuels have become a more attractive method of fuel production,as algae cultivation does not infringe on resources needed for food ***,algae can adapt to different environments,has high photosynthetic efficiency(CO_(2)fixation),and has a high potential for carbohydrate *** prevalence of algae worldwide demonstrates its ability to adapt to different environments and climates,proving its biodiversity and *** can be grown in wastewater,seawater,and even sewage,thus ensuring a lower water footprint and greater energy efficiency during algal biomass *** of this,the optimization of 3G ethanol production appears to be an excellent alternative to mitigate environmental impacts and increase energy and food *** critical review presents(i)the stages of cultivation and processing of micro and macroalgae;(ii)the selection of yeasts(through engineering and/or bioprospecting)to produce ethanol from these biomasses;(iii)the potential of seawater-based facilities to reduce water footprint;and(iv)the mass and energy balances of 3G ethanol production in the world energy *** article is,above all,a brainstorm on the environmental viability of algae bioethanol.
