Muscle strength and its association with cardiometabolic variables in adolescents:does the expression of muscle strength values matter?

Background We investigate the association between different muscle strength(MS)indices with cardiometabolic variables in *** cross-sectional study comprising 351 adolescents(male 44.4%,age 16.6±1.0 years)from *** was assessed by handgrip strength and analyzed in live difrerent ways:absolute MS and MS normalized for body weight,body mass index(BMI),height,and fat mass,*** variables investigated as outcomes were systolic and diastolic blood pressure(DBP),waist circumference(Wc),high-sensitive c-reactive protein(hs-cRP),lipid and glucose metabolism *** linear regression models adjusted for confounding factors were *** Absolute MS and/or MS normalized for height was directly associated with Wc[up to 32.8 *** error(SE)=4.7]and DBP(up to 8.8 mmHg,SE=0.8),and inversely associated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(up to-8.0 mg/***=14.1).MS normalized for body *** or fat inass was inversely associated with Wc(up to-17.5 cm,SE=2.2).According tesex,MS normalized for fat mass was inversely associated with triglycerides(male:0.02 times lower,SE=0.01;female:0.05 times lower,SE=0.01)and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance(male:0.02 times lower,SE=0.01;female:0.06 times ***=0.01).and inversely associated with hs-cRP only among male(0.03 times lower,SE=0.01).conclusion When normalized for body weight,BMI or fat mass,MS was superior to absolute MS or MS normalized for height in representing adequately cardiometabolic variables among adolescents.

Background Milk synthesis in lactating animals demands high energy metabolism,which results in an increased production of reactive oxygen metabolites(ROM)causing an imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants thereby inducing oxidative stress(OS)on the *** mitigate OS and postpartum disorders in dairy goats and gain insight into the impact of dietary choices on redox status during lactation,a feeding trial was conducted using alfalfa silage inoculated with a high-antioxidant strain of lactiplantibacillus *** Twenty-four Guanzhong dairy goats(38.1±1.20 kg)were randomly assigned to two dietary treatments:one containing silage inoculated with *** MTD/1(RSMTD-1),and the other containing silage inoculated with high antioxidant activity *** 24-7(ES24-7).Results ES24-7-inoculated silage exhibited better fermentation quality and antioxidant activity compared to *** ES24-7 diet elevated the total antioxidant capacity(T-AOc),superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxi-dase(GSH-Px),and catalase(cAT)activities in milk,serum,and feces of lactating goats(with the exception of T-AOc in milk).Additionally,the diet containing ES24-7 inoculated silage enhanced casein yield,milk free fatty acid(FFA)content,and vitamin A level in the goats’***,an increase of immunoglobulin(Ig)A,IgG,IgM,inter-leukin(Il)-4,and Il-10 concentrations were observed,coupled with a reduction in Il-1β,Il-2,Il-6,interferon(IFN)-γ,and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-αconcentrations in the serum of lactating goats fed *** concentrations of total volatile fatty acid(VFA),acetate,and propionate were observed in the rumen fluid of dairy goats fed ES24-7 inoculated ***,the diet containing ES24-7 inoculated silage significantly upregulated the expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2 like 2(NFE2l2),beta-carotene oxygenase 1(BcO1),SOD1,SOD2,SOD3,GPX2,cAT,glu-tathione-disulfide reductase(GSR),and heme oxygenase 1(HMOX1)genes in the mammary gland,

Objective:The present study investigated antiglycation and antioxidant activities of crude dry extract and saponin fraction of Tribulus *** also developed a method of microencapsulation and evaluated antiglycation and antioxidant activities of crude dry extract and saponin fraction before and after microcapsule ***:Antiglycation activity was determined by relative electrophoretic mobility(REM),free amino groups and inhibition of advanced glycation end-product(AGE)*** activity was determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH),ferric ion-reducing antioxidant power(FRAP),nitric oxide(NO)and thiobarbituric acid reactive species(TBARS)*** were prepared using maltodextrin as wall material and freeze-drying as encapsulation *** characterization of microcapsules was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy,and encapsulation efficiency and microcapsule release were determined by total saponins *** and antioxidant assays were performed using crude dry extract and saponin fraction of *** before and after ***:Saponin fraction showed an increase of 32.8%total ***-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis showed the presence of saponins in the obtained *** evaluation by REM demonstrated that samples before and after release presented antiglycation activity similar to bovine serum albumin treated with ***,samples inhibited AGE formation,highlighting treatment with saponin fraction after release(89.89%).Antioxidant tests demonstrated antioxidant activity of the *** dry extract before encapsulation presented the highest activities in DPPH(92.00%)and TBARS(32.49%)*** fraction before encapsulation in FRAP test(499μmol Trolox equivalent per gram of dry sample)and NO test(15.13μmol nitrite formed per gram of extract)presented the highest ***:This study presen

The effect of abiotic stresses on plant c:N:P homeostasis and their mitigation by silicon

In crop plants, various environmental stresses affect the balance of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus(c:N:P), leading to biochemical and physiological alterations and reductions in yield. Silicon(Si) is a beneficial element that alleviates plant stress. Most studies involving silicon have focused on physiological responses, such as improvements in photosynthetic processes, water use efficiency, and antioxidant defense systems. But recent research suggests that stressed plants facing either limited or excessive resources(water, light, nutrients, and toxic elements), strategically employ Si to maintain c:N:P homeostasis, thereby minimizing biomass losses. Understanding the role of Si in mitigating the impact of abiotic stresses on plants by regulating c:N:P homeostasis holds great potential for advancing sustainable agricultural practices in crop production. This review presents recent advances in characterizing the influence of environmental stresses on c:N:P homeostasis, as well as the role of Si in preserving c:N:P equilibrium and attenuating biological damage associated with abiotic stress. It underscores the beneficial effects of Si in sustaining c:N:P homeostasis and increasing yield via improved nutritional efficiency and stress mitigation.

Background: Identifying factors associated with physical activity(PA) is useful in planning interventions and policies. The aim of this study was to identify sociodemographic, biological, and psychosocial factors associated with PA performed in school ***: Data collected for the present study included gender, age, socioeconomic status, body fat percentage, aerobic fitness, self-efficacy, attitudes,peer and parental support, and perception of school environment. Dependent variables were light-intensity PA(lPA) and moderate-to-vigorousintensity PA(MVPA) performed during school time, recesses, and physical education(PE) classes. Multiple regression analyses were ***: Participating adolescents(n = 567, 53% female, 12.9 ± 5.3 years) spent 5% of school time in MVPA and 27% in lPA, 15% of recesses in MVPA and 44% in lPA, and 16% of PE classes in MVPA and 41% in lPA. Boys engaged in more MVPA in all categories. Age was inversely related with MVPA and lPA in all periods, whereas body fat percentage was inversely related with MVPA in school time and PE classes. Attitude was inversely related with MVPA in all periods and with lPA in recesses. considering PA to be good and enjoyable was positively associated with MVPA in school ***: Adolescents spent little time in PA during school. Future interventions should implement enjoyable activities at school.

Termite colonies are usully headed by primary reproductives,which estab-listh nests during the swar ming ***,secondary reproductives may develop in some specics and become supplementary or replacement breeders,extending colony *** we investigate the developmental origin,fecundity and genetic characterizaion of ergatoid reproductives in the Neotropical termite Nasuitermes aquilinus(Holmgren),using morphometrical and histological techniques,five micosiallitle loci and the cOI mitochondrial *** measurements performed on 208 apterous individuals of Nuauidius revealed 10 groups,including ergatoid females,which developed from major workers through two successive *** were characterized by the presence of imaginal features such as eyes andl wing *** difentiation of these features was correlated to physogastric development in these ergatoids,Histology revealed ooeytes in all matu-ration sages in worker-derived reproductives of N aquidinus,presence of nonflagellate spermatozoa inside the spermatheea,and royal fa ***,ergatoid reproduwetives were reproductively *** to the genotypes of 221 individuals from 11 nests,and mitochondrial haplotypes of 43 ergatoids,73%of the colomies were simple families,whereas 27%were extendbed *** the oecurenee of related reproductives,low inbreeding rates were detected within and among *** values could be explained given that sib mating itself cannot result in a higher inbreeding rate but depend on several factors discussed in *** is the first study to investigate the genetic structure of termite colonies influenced by the development of ergatoids and further investigations are encouraged 10 understand the inflwence of these reproductives on colony lifespan.

Effects of aeration on the suspended matter from a tropical and eutrophic estuary

A comprehensive understanding of the complex biogeochemical interactions between organic matter and persistent contaminants in the suspended matter is vital for ecoefficient estuary ***,little is known regarding aeration effects in suspended particulate ***,this study aimed to investigate the effects of aeration on the suspended matter from a Tropical and Eutrophic estuarine *** water with 60 g/l of suspended particulate matter(SPM)was collected from Guanabara Bay,Rio de Janeiro,Brazil,transferred to experimental boxes and aerated for 61 *** aggregates monitoring included abiotic variables measurements and,determination of total organic matter(TOM),biopolymers composition,bacterial activity,trace metals,and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)*** aeration enhanced dissolved oxygen(DO)concentration and the redox potential(Eh).However,from days 0 to 61 the predominant bacterial activities were denitrification and *** transport system activity increased after day 10,and aerobic activity was detected after day *** summary,aeration increased aerobic bacterial activity,lipids(lIP)and trace metal concentrations,although diminished protein/carbohydrate ratio and PAH *** metals concentration(Ni,Pb,cu,cr,Mn,and Fe)were the highest on day 19 when the p H was *** presented toxic values(cu>20.0μg/g).The p H showed a strong negative correlation with Eh(r=-0.94;pcidic environment(p H≤5.9)in marine ecosystems with high loads of toxic trace metals is unsafe for ***,managers must be aware of the environmental and biological risks of introducing the aeration technique into a eutrophic marine environment.
