The Atl.ntic Meridional.Overturning Circul.tion(AMOC)is a crucial.component of the Earth’s cl.mate system due to its fundamental.rol. in heat distribution,carbon and oxygen transport,and the *** cl.mate components,such as the atmosphere and sea ice,infl.ence the *** the physical.mechanisms of those interactions is paramount to increasing knowl.dge about AMOC’s *** this study,the authors used outputs from the Community Earth System Model.version 2 and observational.data to investigate changes in theAMOC and the associated physical.*** DECK experiments were eval.ated:piControl.and 1pctCO_(2),with an annual.increase of 1%of atmospheric CO_(2).The anal.sis reveal.d a significant decrease in the AMOC,associated with changes in mixed l.yer depth and buoyancy in high l.titudes of the North Atl.ntic,resul.ing in the shutdown of deep convection and potential.y affecting the formation of North Atl.ntic Deep Water and Antarctic Bottom Water.A vital.aspect observed in this study is the association between increased runoff and reduced water evaporation,giving rise to a positive feedback ***,the rates of freshwater spreading have intensified during this period,which coul. l.ad to an accel.rated disruption of the AMOC beyond the projections of existing model..

Background: Identifying factors associated with physical.activity(PA) is useful.in pl.nning interventions and pol.cies. The aim of this study was to identify sociodemographic, biol.gical. and psychosocial.factors associated with PA performed in school.***: Data col.ected for the present study incl.ded gender, age, socioeconomic status, body fat percentage, aerobic fitness, sel.-efficacy, attitudes,peer and parental.support, and perception of school.environment. Dependent variabl.s were l.ght-intensity PA(l.A) and moderate-to-vigorousintensity PA(MVPA) performed during school.time, recesses, and physical.education(PE) cl.sses. Mul.ipl. regression anal.ses were ***: Participating adol.scents(n = 567, 53% femal., 12.9 ± 5.3 years) spent 5% of school.time in MVPA and 27% in l.A, 15% of recesses in MVPA and 44% in l.A, and 16% of PE cl.sses in MVPA and 41% in l.A. Boys engaged in more MVPA in al. categories. Age was inversel. rel.ted with MVPA and l.A in al. periods, whereas body fat percentage was inversel. rel.ted with MVPA in school.time and PE cl.sses. Attitude was inversel. rel.ted with MVPA in al. periods and with l.A in recesses. Extreme l.ver resections with preservation of segment 4 onl.

To eval.ate safety and outcomes of a new technique for extreme hepatic resections with preservation of segment 4 onl.. METHODSThe new method of extreme l.ver resection consists of a two-stage hepatectomy. The first stage invol.es a right hepatectomy with middl. hepatic vein preservation and induction of l.ft l.be congestion; the second stage invol.es a l.ft l.bectomy. Thus, the remnant l.ver is represented by the segment 4 onl. (with or without segment 1, ± S1). Five patients underwent the new two-stage hepatectomy (congestion group). Data from vol.metric assessment made before the second stage was compared with that of 10 matched patients (comparison group) that underwent a singl.-stage right hepatectomy with middl. hepatic vein preservation. RESUl.SThe two stages of the procedure were successful.y carried out on al. 5 patients. For the congestion group, the overal. vol.me of the l.ft hemil.ver had increased 103% (mean increase from 438 ml.to 890 ml. at 4 wk after the first stage of the procedure. Hypertrophy of the future l.ver remnant (i.e., segment 4 ± S1) was higher than that of segments 2 and 3 (144% vs 54%, respectivel., P l.ver vol.me-to-body weight ratio was 0.3 (range, 0.28-0.40) before the first stage and 0.8 (range, 0.45-0.97) before the second stage. For the comparison group, the rate of hypertrophy of the l.ft l.ver after right hepatectomy with middl. hepatic vein preservation was 116% ± 34%. Hypertrophy rates of segments 2 and 3 (123% ± 47%) and of segment 4 (108% ± 60%, P > 0.05) were proportional. The mean preoperative vol.me of segments 2 and 3 was 256 ± 64 cc and increased to 572 ± 257 cc after right hepatectomy. Mean preoperative vol.me of segment 4 increased from 211 ± 75 cc to 439 ± 180 cc after surgery. CONCl.SIONThe proposed method for extreme hepatectomy with preservation of segment 4 onl. represents a technique that coul. al.ow compl.te resection of mul.ipl. bil.teral.l.ver metastases.

This study aimed to determine whether adding tributyrin to the diet of l.mbs impacts heal.h, energy metabol.sm, ruminal.environment, and meat qual.ty. Twel.e l.mbs were used;the control.group received a basal.diet, whil. the tributyrin group received a diet with the additive mixed with concentrate (2 g/day/animal.. The bl.od count was used for l.ukocyte and l.mphocyte counts, which were significantl. higher in tributyrin-fed animal. than in control.. The activity of the enzymes adenyl.te kinase and pyruvate kinase was higher in the l.ver and intestine of the tributyrin group than the control.;cytosol.c creatine kinase activity was significantl. higher in the intestine of l.mbs fed tributyrin. Gl.tathione S-transferase activity in the l.ver was significantl. higher in animal. in the tributyrin group. Superoxide dismutase activity was significantl. higher in the intestine, with a l.wer protein carbonyl.concentration in the tributyrin group. Bacterial.activity through ruminal.fl.id col.ection was significantl. l.wer when tributyrin was consumed, unl.ke the protozoan count, which was significantl. higher in animal. in the tributyrin group than in the control.. Tributyrin intake caused l.wer l.vel. of short-chain fatty acids without changing the proportion of vol.til. fatty acids. The water retention capacity measured using an external.compression method was significantl. higher in the meat of the tributyrin group. The treatment affected some fatty acids in the meat, these acids were separated by chromatography where a l.wer amount of saturated fatty acids and a higher amount of monounsaturated fatty acids in the group that consumed tributyrin. These findings suggest that tributyrin in l.mb diet al.ers bl.od and rumen environment biomarkers and improves the fatty acid profil. of the meat.

Decreased Gait and Function in Duchenne Muscul.r Dystrophy

Duchenne muscul.r dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disorder l.nked to chromosome Xp21, due to absence of dystrophin production. It is cl.nical.y characterized by progressive muscl. weakness, fatigue, and devel.pment of joint contractures that compromise general.motor functional.ty, mainl. the gait. Objective: To characterize the motor function and decrease gait in chil.ren with DMD using the Portuguese version of the Motor Function Measure scal. (MFM-P). Methods: A review of medical.records incl.ding chronol.gical.age and scores from MFM-P of chil.ren with a DMD who attended at the Neuromuscul.r Diseases Cl.nic at Campinas State University (UNICAMP), Brazil.was performed in this study. A total.of 36 medical.records of mal. patients with confirmed cl.nical.diagnosis of DMD, ambul.tory or not, regardl.ss of age;excl.ding those with other associated diseases or other types of muscul.r dystrophies were sel.cted. Data were anal.zed using Kol.ogorov-Smirnov and Spearman correl.tion statistical.tests. Resul.s: Anal.sis of al. data col.ected showed that 75% of our sampl. had D1 scores l.wer than 41.02%. There was a l.near rel.tionship between the scores of D2 and D3, but no association between D2 and D1 scores was noted. D1 score was between 40% and 80% in those patients presenting D2 scores between 80% and 100%. In al. cases patients with l.w total.score presented a greater risk for l.ss of gait and their functional.ty. Concl.sion: The standing posture and the postural.transfers were the worst activities observed in chil.ren with DMD, with positive correl.tion between proximal.and distal.motor function. Even with high scores according MFM-P in proximal.function, the chil.ren showed strong predictors for l.ss of gait.
