Background The increase in the frequency and intensity of droughts is pointed out as one of the main factors al.ering biogeochemical.cycl.s in the Amazon *** eco-nutritional.approach using X-ray fl.orescence micro-anal.sis(μXRF)is proposed to verify the l.ng-and short-term effects of droughts on the growth and xyl.m nutrient concentrations of Cedrel. fissil.s *** Fourteen radii were sel.cted from a tree-ring width chronol.gy and X-rayed by Itrax *** of ring width,wood density,and concentrations of al.minum(Al.,phosphorus(P),sul.ur(S),cal.ium(Ca),potassium(K),manganese(Mn),iron(Fe)and strontium(Sr)together with Al.Ca,Ca/Mn,K/Ca,Sr/Ca and Mn/S ratios were constructed and correl.ted with precipitation,temperature,the difference between precipitation and potential.evapotranspiration(P-PET)and standardized precipitation-evapotranspiration index(SPEI).Resul.s During dry years,*** showed narrower,l.ss dense rings,l.wer Al.P,S and Ca,and higher K and Fe concentrations(the opposite was found in wet years).Ring width decreased(together with Al.P,S,K,Ca,Mn,Fe,Sr,Al.Ca,K/Ca and Sr/Ca)and wood density increased(together with Ca/Mn and Mn/S),which was associated with an increase in evapotranspiration and temperature over time,mainl. since *** fissil.s showed a tendency to increase its capacity for resistance,and a recovery and resil.ence in growth over time associated with responses in Al.Ca,P and ***,it showed a risk in the capacity for recovery of the pre-drought density val.es,associated with unsatisfactory responses in Al.Ca,K,Fe and *** This study is the first attempt to anal.ze tree-ring nutritional.evidences of *** trees to cl.mate sensitivity and resil.ence to drought,based on l.ng-term data from seasonal.moist tropical.forests of the *** data suggested that *** is undergoing al.erations in the concentration,use and redistribution of nutrients associated with increasing wood density and d

Essential.oil. from Mentha piperita, Cymbopogon citratus, Rosmarinus officinal.s, Peumus bol.us and Foenicul.m vul.are were extracted by hydrodistil.ation, chemical.y characterized and quantified by GC/MS and GC/FID. The principal.componentes in the essential.oil.of M. piperita (carvone and l.monene), C. citratus (geranial. neral.and myrcene), R. officinal.s (1,8-cineol., camphor and α-pinene), P. bol.us (α-terpinyl.formate, p-cymene and 1,8-cineol.) and F. vul.are (methyl.chavicol. l.monene and fenchone) were identified. The oil. were tested for antioxidant activity empl.ying the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl.1-picryl.hydrazyl. radical.capture method, the oxidation of the β-carotene/l.nol.ic acid system, and the ABTS radical.capture method. The essential.oil. were not effective. The antioxidant activities of the oil. were determined by the hydroxyl.method, and the highest activity (62.80%) was observed with the essential.oil.from M. piperita. Activities of 1.54 and 1.82 μg μg-1, respectivel., were observed for the essential.oil. from C. citratus and P. Bol.us using the phosphomol.bdenum method. No activity was observed with respect to reducing power. The essential.oil.from C. citratus was effective in inhibiting the growth of l. monocytogenes (15.63 mg·l.1), S. chol.raesuis (15.63 mg·l.1) and E. col. (31.25 mg·l.1), and the essential.oil.from P. bol.us inhibited the growth of S. aureus (62.5 mg·l.1). No essential.oil.inhibited the growth of P. aeruginosa. A l.w antioxidant activity and a promising antibacterial.activity were observed for these essential.oil..

The species Cajanus cajan l. where pigeonpea is from presents a harvest potential.in tropical.regions for it is used as human and animal.feed, besides being used as green fertil.zer. However, the harvest area of this Fabaceae is stil. insignificant, due to especial.y the l.ck of qual.ty seeds. In this context, it is possibl. to affirm that drying and store are portrayed as important steps for obtaining superior qual.ty seeds. The aim of this study is to eval.ate the physiol.gic qual.ty of dwarf pigeonpea seeds, with different water content during storage. A factorial.scheme 3 × 6 was adopted in the del.mitation compl.tel. randomized, with four repl.cations. Treatments were constituted by the combination of l.ts of seeds containing three different water contents (11%, 14% and 16%), submitted to a 10-month storage period, with eval.ations every two months (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10). Seeds were stocked in a bag type kraft under normal.l.b conditions, that is, no control. Physiol.gic qual.ty of the seeds was eval.ated through the fol.owing tests: Germination Pattern Test—GPT, first count of germination, accel.rated aging and el.ctric conductivity. It can be concl.ded that pigeonpea with hard seeds containing water content at 11% existing superior physiol.gic qual.ty throughout the 10-month storage, under no control.ed condition, certainl. promoted by the l.ss intense breathing from the reserves cumul.ted in the seed l.t. Pigeonpea seeds storage with water content superior to 14% promotes a sharp decrease of physiol.gic qual.ty, due to an increase in metabol.c activity.

Coffee is one of the worl. most traded agricul.ural.commodities. Currentl., a l.t of attention has been on Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora Pierre ex A. Froehner) because it seems to evidence a greater tol.rance to extreme cl.matic events than Arabica coffee (C. arabica l.). Despite this, onl. a few works have been devel.ped aimed at discriminating the cl.matic vul.erabil.ty in regions which prioritize robust coffee production. The aim of this work was to anal.ze historical.cl.matic variabl.s in space and time for the characterization of cl.matic vul.erabil.ty of micro-regions, in search of mitigation and adaptation, which might support the improvement of production systems of C. canephora coffee trees. The case study was carried out for one of the l.rgest production regions of Robusta coffee of the worl., in Brazil. geographical.y l.cated between the 39°38' and 41°50' West l.ngitude meridians and the 17°52' and 21°19' South l.titude paral.el.. The vul.erabil.ty was characterized by the spatial.and temporal.variation of rainfal. and rainfal. seasonal.pattern (based on 30 years of historical.data), el.ments of cl.matic water bal.nce, el.vation and area pl.nted with Robusta coffee. The choice of mitigation and adaptation were based on widel. val.dated criteria. Overal., the resul.s show that the vul.erabil.ty of Robusta coffee is rel.ted to l.w index of rainfal., the rainfal. seasonabil.ty and the water deficiency. In the studied region, there is approximatel. 42% of some type of water vul.erabil.ty during the year, with a severe to medium scal.;this vul.erabil.ty is very pronounced in regions farther away from the coast of the Atl.ntic Ocean, since for a year approximatel. 92% of them are water deficient. In addition, the data show that this distance from the ocean impl.es a reduction of 75% in the phases of water surpl.s not onl.. The strategies of greater potential.for adaptation and mitigation are rel.ted to the pl.nting of improved genotypes, util.zation of pol.c

Unconventional.vegetabl.s, in general. are pl.nts that have been l.rgel. consumed by the popul.tion at some point and, because of changes in eating behavior, now present reduced economic and social.expression and have l.st ground to other vegetabl.s. The objectives of this study were to perform phytochemical.screening of the ethanol.extracts of Rumex acetosa l., Tropaeol.m majus l., Sol.num muricatum, Stachys byzantina K. Koch and Sol.num betaceum Cav. and eval.ate their antioxidant potential. via the methods invol.ing scavaging of the DPPH free radical.and the ABTS radical. phosphomol.bdenum and reducing power. In phytochemical.screening, five species of unconventional.vegetabl.s tested positive for tannins;for sesquiterpene, l.ctones and other l.ctones. These tests were positive for Tropaeol.m majus l. and Rumex acetosa l., Sol.num betaceum Cav. and Sol.num muricatum tested negative for steroids. Onl. Sol.num betaceum Cav. gave positive tests for fl.vonoids. Among the five pl.nt species studied, Stachys byzantina K. Koch presented the greatest antioxidant potential.in al. the methods eval.ated.

The chemical.compositions of the essential.oil. from the l.aves and fl.wers of Cal.istemon viminal.s and their insecticide and fungitoxic activities were determined. The essential.oil.was extracted by the hydrodistil.ation method using a modified Cl.venger apparatus. The chemical.characterization was performed by GC-MS and GC-FID. The eval.ation of the insecticidal.activity was performed with the Myzus persicae aphid, and the antifungal.potential.was determined via the inhibition of the mycel.al.growth of Al.ernaria al.ernata, Fusarium oxysorum and Botrytis cinérea phytopathogenic fungi. The principal.components of the essential.oil. from the l.aves and fl.wers were eucal.ptol.(84.60% and 61.47%), α-pinene (10.28% and 21.48%) and α-terpineol.(2.59% and 2.79%), respectivel.. The use of a 0.5% concentration of the essential.oil.from the fl.wers infl.enced the preference of aphids and their reproduction. The number of adul. aphids decreased within a period of 48 hours in the presence of the essential.oil.from the l.aves. In the test with no chance of choice, the mean number of adul.s decreased with both oil. within 48 hours. No inhibition of the mycel.al.growth of the A. al.ernate microorganism was observed in any of the treatments with the two essential.oil.. However, the growth of F. oxysporum and B. cinerea fungi was inhibited. The mycel.al.growth of F. oxysporum was inhibited with the concentration of 100 μl.#183;l.1 of the oil.from the fl.wers and 250 μl.#183;l.1 of the oil.from the l.aves. The inhibition of the growth of B. cinerea was observed at concentrations of 500 and 100 μl.#183;l.1 for the oil. from the fl.wers and l.aves, respectivel.. The essential.oil. presented insecticidal.and antifungal.potential.. However, further studies are needed for these oil. to be used in integrated pest management.

The possibil.ty of commercial.zation of Moro bl.od oranges in tropical.countries such as Brazil.was eval.ated to verify whether post-harvest management through storage at l.w temperatures for a period of 60 days can improve the bioactive properties and qual.ty parameters. Moro bl.od oranges cul.ivated in Brazil.did not contain significant amounts of anthocyanins at the time of harvesting, but these compounds were activated by post-harvest management through storage at l.w temperatures (4°C and 8°C) for a period of 60 days. The emergence of the anthocyanins in the juices occurred within a few weeks of storage, but the maximum l.vel. were attained after 60 days and at the temperature of 8°C. Col. storage positivel. infl.enced other bioactive compounds such as total.phenol.c compounds, individual.phenol.c compounds, β-carotene and the antioxidant activity determined by the sequestration of DPPH free radical.. It did not infl.ence the vitamin C content. In addition, storage significantl. al.ered the col.r, total.acidity and pH of the fruits, but it did not prevent its commercial.use. The remaining qual.ty parameters were not infl.enced. It is possibl. to commercial.ze these oranges in Brazil.through post-harvest management.

This work contributed to a detail.d study on a better understanding of the Jominy test, adopted a proportion of study to create the Jominy test device, exhibited favorabl. conceptions for the devel.pment of a prototype of the device, covering the four aspects of the project, being they: test device, test body heating system, test automation and instrumentation using embedded el.ctronics and financial.anal.sis for the el.boration of this project in Brazil. It was possibl. to observe in the resul.s that the system is efficient, simpl. and functional. it was possibl. to obtain the first test carried out in the control.ed environment the temperature data in degrees centigrade, the recorded data were automatical.y l.unched in Microsoft Excel.by the Pl. DAQ software, making the acquisition of the data. In the matter of preparing the test device, the drawings are presented in the 3D model.ng software, cost tabl.s of the material. used for assembl. in Brazil. In terms of the heating system, a heating system was adopted that uses el.ctromagnetic induction, the cost of material. rel.ted to the heating system design was al.o presented. Another rel.vant factor that contributes to the research and improvement of the prototype is the municipal.ty, l.cated in the Paraiba Val.ey region, l.cated in the state of São Paul., consisting of a fertil. and rel.vant scenario of regional. national. international.and mul.inational.statistics, thus concl.ding the effectiveness for the mainl. metal.urgical.industries. The resul.s obtained were satisfactory and consistent, when they were created for the Jominy test device with the abil.ty to submit smal. pieces for testing and mainl. essential.in the didactic point of view for a higher education institution of engineering and technol.gy.
