Due to a complex geological and biotic history,the Isthmus of Tehuantepec(IT),has been long recognized as a driver for the evolutionary divergence of numerous lowland and highland *** distributed in the lowlands of the American continent,the White-Tipped Dove(Leptotila verreauxi)is a polytypic species with 13 recognized *** of these have been recorded in Mexico,and the distribution of three abuts at the IT,suggesting a contact *** estimate phylogenetic patterns,divergence times and genetic differentiation,we examined two mt DNA(ND2 and COI)and one n DNA(β-fibint 7)*** also used correlative ecological niche models(ENM)to assess whether ecological differences across the IT may have acted as a biogeographical *** estimated paleodistributions during the Middle Holocene,Last Glacial Maximum and Last Interglacial,to evaluate the influence of climate changes on the distribution and demographic *** results showed genetically distinct lineages that diverged approximately 2.5 million years *** and ecological factors may have played a dual role in promoting differentiation,but also in the formation of a secondary contact zone in the southern *** ecological niche comparisons indicated that the ecological niche of sympatric lineages at the IT are not identical,suggesting niches divergence;in addition,environmental niche models across the region indicated no abrupt biogeographic barriers,but the presence of regions with low *** results suggest that genetic differentiation originated by a vicariant event probably related to environmental factors,favored the evolution of different ecological ***,the absence of a biogeographic barrier but the presence of less suitable areas in the contact regions,suggest that secondary contact zones may be also maintained by climatic factors for the eastern group,but also by biotic interactions for the western group.

Plant-based antimicrobial agents are readily available, cost-effective, and exhibit low toxicity, making them promising alternatives in combatting microbial infections. Among these plants, garlic (Allium sativum) stands out for its traditional medicinal use in effectively combating various microorganisms. In the poultry industry, preventing avian virus and bacterial infections is paramount for chicken husbandry. However, using conventional drugs poses potential risks to human health. Garlic, a widely used Asian plant in traditional medicine for various pathologies, has shown potential as an herbal prophylactic remedy against viral and bacterial infections. Recently, researchers explored garlic and its derivatives as a scientific strategy in veterinary practices for diverse purposes, such as improving poultry production characteristics and acting as antibiotic growth promoters. This comprehensive review delves into garlic and its derivatives as preventive and corrective treatments for viral diseases in laying hens and broilers. The paper highlights their potential effectiveness and safety as a natural means to enhance poultry health and welfare while mitigating the risks associated with conventional drug usage in the food industry.

Minimally Invasive Surgery for Necrotizing Pancreatitis: A Case Report

Introduction: Necrotizing pancreatitis management is complex and varies significantly among clinicians. Minimally invasive approaches like transgastric necrosectomy via laparoscopy are emerging as effective treatment options. This case report underscores the technique’s efficacy, clinical outcomes, and role in reducing complications. Clinical Observation: A 59-year-old male with a history of smoking and alcoholism presented with severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Over the following weeks, he developed symptoms including asthenia, weight loss, and melena. Diagnostic workup revealed severe anemia and Balthazar E necrotizing pancreatitis, with significant intra-abdominal fluid collections and signs of infection. After initial conservative management, the patient underwent transgastric necrosectomy via laparoscopy due to deteriorating clinical status. The procedure involved removing necrotic tissue and performing a cystogastroanastomosis and jejunostomy. Postoperative care included fasting, parenteral nutrition, broad-spectrum antibiotics, and enzymatic replacement. The patient recovered well, with reduced necrotic tissue on follow-up imaging, and was discharged twelve days post-surgery [1]. Conclusion: Transgastric necrosectomy by laparoscopy is a valuable first-line surgical option for patients with symptomatic necrotizing pancreatitis, particularly in cases without prior interventions. This minimally invasive technique helps reduce major complications and mortality, offering a less invasive alternative to traditional open necrosectomy. The multidisciplinary approach and careful postoperative management were crucial to the patient’s favorable outcome. The case highlights the potential of transgastric necrosectomy as an effective treatment strategy in managing complex pancreatitis cases, including those with associated duodenal perforation [2].

Weighing of risk factors for penetrating keratoplasty graft failure：application of Risk Score System

AIM：To analyze the relationship between the score obtained in the Risk Score System（RSS）proposed by Hicks et al with penetrating keratoplasty（PKP）graft failure at 1y postoperatively and among each factor in the RSS with the risk of PKP graft failure using univariate and multivariate ***：The retrospective cohort study had 152 PKPs from 152 patients. Eighteen cases were excluded from our study due to primary failure（10 cases）,incomplete medical notes（5 cases）and follow-up less than 1y（3cases）. We included 134 PKPs from 134 patients stratified by preoperative risk score. Spearman coefficient was calculated for the relationship between the score obtained and risk of failure at 1y. Univariate and multivariate analysis were calculated for the impact of every single risk factor included in the RSS over graft failure at 1y. RESULTS：Spearman coefficient showed statistically significant correlation between the score in the RSS and graft failure（P〈0.05）. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed no statistically significant relationship（P〉0.05）between diagnosis and lens status with graft failure. The relationship between the other risk factors studied and graft failure was significant（P〈0.05）,although the results for previous grafts and graft failure was unreliable. None of our patients had previous blood transfusion,thus,it had no impact. CONCLUSION：After the application of multivariate analysis techniques,some risk factors do not show the expected impact over graft failure at 1y.

Body Composition, Gynecologic-Obstetric Variables, and Prolactin Levels in Patients with Breast Cancer

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine body composition, gynecological, and obstetric data, sex hormones, and prolactin serum levels in pre- (PREW) and postmenopausal women (PMW) with breast cancer (BC) and compare them with a control group (CG) of healthy women. Methodology: BC patients without treatment or use of hormone replacement therapy, or hormonal birth control, and without data of metastasis were included. CG was matched for age, BMI, and menstrual cycle status. FSH, LH, E2, progesterone, testosterone, and prolactin (PRL) were measured using radioimmunoassay kits. Comparisons between BC and CG were made with “t” tests, and with the Mann-Whitney U-test;χ2 test was used to compare the qualitative variables between the groups. Results: Seventy-two patients with BC, and 74 CG women were evaluated. Both groups presented overweight data, BMI (kg/mt2) = 27.21 ± 5.51 vs. 28.40 ± 4.66, p = ns, for BC patients and CG, respectively. In PREW, the age at menarche was later in BC patients compared to the CG (13.3 ± 1.36 years vs. 12.41 ± 1.27 years, p = 0.005). The PMW with BC presented a higher age at menarche and menopause compared to the women of the CG (13.51 ± 1.48 vs. 12.91 ± 1.41, p = 0.09, and 49.03 ± 2.86 vs. 45.5 ± 8.78, p = 0.03, respectively). PRL levels were significantly higher in PMW with BC, in comparison with the CG;median and minimum and maximum values (min-max) were: 14.7 ng/mL (3.6 - 52.7) vs. 5.9 ng/mL (1.9 - 33.3), p = 0.005). A higher percentage of PMW with BC (26.0% vs. 7.1%, χ2 = 5.57, p = 0.01) presented hyperprolactinemia (PRL serum levels > 20 ng/mL), compared to the GC. Conclusions: The higher levels of PRL in PMW with BC compared with CG, suggest a proliferative effect of this hormone in the affected breast tissue. This study demonstrates the need to use biological markers such as PRL to determine the risk of BC in PMW.

Background:Habitat loss and fragmentation in the Sierra Madre Oriental(SMO)ecological corridor have negative impacts on the movement and distribution of mammalian species that are of great ecological and evolutionary *** of the SMO ecological corridor that is located in the state of Hidalgo is less studied despite being a potential dispersal route for *** objectives of this study were to evaluate the presence and activity of terrestrial mammals in the riparian and non‑riparian zones of ***:Camera traps detected 15 mammalian species(i.e.,14 native and 1 domestic)in the non‑riparian zone,and 12 mammalian species in the riparian zone(i.e.,10 wild and 2 domestic).The riparian corridor was mainly used by opportunistic medium‑sized carnivores,while large carnivores and their potential prey were more frequent in the non‑riparian ***:Our findings suggest terrestrial mammals avoid the use of natural corridors due to the presence of domestic dogs,cattle and humans and look for new dispersal routes to move through their habitat and find the resources they need to *** though some species can use disturbed corridors to move and find resources,they will change their activity patterns to avoid contact with humans and potential threats like *** is,therefore,crucial to identify not one,but several corridors that must be preserved to improve the connectivity of terrestrial mammals in disturbed landscapes.

Cerebrolysin Effects on Cardiac Neuropathy in Diabetic Rats

Autonomic innervation of heart is abnormal in diabetes and produces altered cardiovascular parameters. Cerebrolysin is a neurotrophic factor that improves the dendritic tree and synapses in the central nerve system after brain damage. The aim of this study was to evaluate if cerebrolysin can improve the cardiac neuropathy generated in diabetic rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats two months old were injected with streptozotocin (70 mg/Kg/, ip). Hyperglycemia and altered cardiac rate were confirmed after eight weeks of STZ injection, and cerebrolysin treatment was started in control and diabetic rats for two months (1 ml/kg/day, ip). Body weight, heart rate, heart rate variability, arterial blood pressure, and blood glucose levels were measured. Also heart weight and levels of nitrites, NGF and VEGF were measured in left ventricle homogenates. The results show that body weight was reduced and blood glucose levels were increased significantly in diabetic rats. Cerebrolysin treatment produced no significant changes in body weight either in blood glucose level in control and diabetic rats. Cerebrolysin treatment in diabetic rats shows an improvement in the altered basal cardiac rate (306 ± 6.5 lat/min) compared to diabetic saline group (272 ± 8.9 lat/min: P < 0.05), without changes in control rats. Levels of nitrites, VEGF, and NGF in the left ventricle increased in diabetic cerebrolysin treated rats. In conclusion, the results show that cerebrolysin improves some abnormalities observed in the diabetic cardiac neuropathy in rats and suggest that could be considered an additional treatment to prevent or reduce the cardiac autonomic alterations generated in diabetes.
