A gain-of-function mutation in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 gene(FGFR3)results in achondroplasia(ACH),the most frequent form of *** activation of FGFR3 impairs bone formation and elongation and many signal transduction *** of new and relevant compounds targeting the FGFR3 signaling pathway is of broad importance for the treatment of ACH,and natural plant compounds are prime drug candidate ***,we found that the phenolic compound(-)-epicatechin,isolated from theobroma cacao,effectively inhibited FGFR3’s downstream signaling *** analysis in an Fgfr3 mouse model showed that ciliary mRNA expression was modified and influenced significantly by the Indian hedgehog and PKA pathways.(-)-Epicatechin is able to rescue mRNA expression impairments that control both the structural organization of the primary cilium and ciliogenesis-related *** femurs isolated from a mouse model(Fgfr3^(Y367C/+))of ACH,we showed that(-)-epicatechin eliminated bone growth impairment during 6 days of ex vivo *** vivo,we confirmed that daily subcutaneous injections of(-)-epicatechin to Fgfr3^(Y367C/+) mice increased bone elongation and rescued the primary cilium defects observed in *** modification to the primary cilia promoted the typical columnar arrangement of flat proliferative chondrocytes and thus enhanced bone *** results of the present proof-of-principle study support(-)-epicatechin as a potential drug for the treatment of ACH.

the Magdalena River has the greatest length（1612 km）and drainage area（257400 km2）of any river system in Colombia,and its watershed occupies 24%of the Colombian *** river originates in the Andean Cordillera at an elevation of 3685 m and flows to its mouth in the Caribbean Sea（Bocas de Cenizas）.For this study,information on daily flow discharge（Q）,suspended sediment transport(Qsand mean suspended sediment concentration（Cs）from 1990-2010 for the Magdalena River,based on measurements at the Caiamar gauging station（the closest station to the mouth）,was provided by the Institute of Hydrology,Meteorology and Environmental Studies of Colombia（IDEAM in Spanish）.the mean annual suspended sediment load was 169±73×10～6tyr-1for the period from 1990-1999 and145±47×10～6 t yr1for the period from 2000-2010,amounting to a 14%reduction in the suspended sediment transport rate between the two *** sediment rating curve（Qs=aQb）was also evaluated for these two periods（1990-1999 and 2000-2010）.An analysis of the regression coefficients（a.b）for the two periods showed a decrease in b and an increase in a after 1999,which coincides with a decrease in suspended sediment *** change might be attributed to natural factors,including the accumulation of sediment in the Depresion Momposina and variation in hydro-climatological patterns in the Caribbean *** in effective transport were confirmed using three methods（Log-Normal and Normal distribution,and magnitude-frequency histogram）for the study period.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the leading cause of chronic liver disease in the western world(1).Currently,the global prevalence of NAFLD is estimated at 30%and is notably higher in South America and the Middle East(1).NAFLD prevalence has been rising during the last decades,and cases of decompensated NAFLD cirrhosis could increase by 168%in 2030(Figure 1A)(2).these trends are probably explained by several factors including the decrease in viral hepatitis incidence and the increasing prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus(t2DM)among the general population(2).

Aircrafts damages caused by lightning strikes have been known since the early days of ***,the physical effects on the aircraft structure are still being *** work seeks to evaluate the lightning strike effects in the aluminum alloy *** were submitted to lightning strike simulation in laboratory and the damages evaluated through characterization *** and profilometry tests have shown material loss to 0.272 mm depth in the damaged *** addition,it was detected the material accumulation occurrence in the damage vicinity of the *** the damage,it was found a region where metallurgical changes were *** tensile and microhardness tests results have shown reduction in the percentage elongation and hardness increasing in the material affected by *** results are corroborated by the X-Ray Diffraction(XRD)and Rietveld Method(red line)that indicated an increasing in dislocation density and micro-deformation in the material *** microscopy results have shown the presence of microcracks on the normal and cross-section surface of the samples *** Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy(EDXS)and Electron Backscattered Diffraction test(EBSD)found coarse intermetallic phases and precipitates compounds with dimensions greater than 1 lm in *** were responsible for nucleation of the microcracks that propagate along the material grain boundaries.

Objective:to assess the efficacy of triclabendazole(tCBZ) in porcine ***:Eighteen naturally infected cysticercotic pigs were divided into 3 groups of 6 individuals *** first group was treated orally with tCBZ at a single dose of 30 mg/kg of body weight,the second group was treated orally with oxfendazole at a single dose of 30 mg/kg of body weight and the third group received a placebo(control group).All animals were kept under the same management *** pigs were euthanized 17 wk post-treatment and the number of surviving cysts in muscles was assessed and compared between ***:All pigs treated with oxfendazole had only degenerated cysts in their *** contrast,tCBZ had very little effect against the parasitic *** from pigs in the tCBZ group looked apparently normal after ***,histological evaluation showed a mild to moderate degree of ***:tCBZ is not an efficacious drug against taenia solium cysticercosis in swine using a single dose.

Whole-genome duplications are an important source of evolutionary novelties that change the mode and tempo at which genetic elements evolve within a genome. the Cucurbita genus experienced a wholegenome duplication around 30 million years ago, although the evolutionary dynamics of the coding and noncoding genes in this genus have not yet been scrutinized. Here, we analyzed the genomes of four Cucurbita species, in eluding a newly assembled genome of Cucurbita argyrosperma, and compared the gene con tents of these species with those of five other members of the Cucurbitaceae family to assess the evolutionary dynamics of protein-coding and long intergenic noncoding RNA (lincRNA) genes after the genome duplication. We report that Cucurbita genomes have a higher protein-coding gene birth-death rate compared with the genomes of the other members of the Cucurbitaceae family. C. argyrosperma gene families associated with pollination and transmembrane transport had significantly faster evolutionary rates. lincRNA families showed high levels of gene turnover throughout the phylogeny, and 67.7% of the lincRNA families in Cucurbita showed evidence of birth from the neofunctionalization of previously existing protein-coding genes. Collectively, our results suggest that the whole-genome duplication in Cucurbita resulted in faster rates of gene family evolution through the neofunctionalization of duplicated genes.

Ultrafast laser pulses provide unique tools to manipulate magnetization dynamics at femtosecond timescales,where the interaction of the electric field usually dominates over the magnetic *** proposals using structured laser beams have demonstrated the possibility to produce regions where intense oscillating magnetic fields are isolated from the electric *** these conditions,we show that technologically feasible tesla-scale circularly polarized high-frequency magnetic fields induce purely precessional nonlinear magnetization *** fundamental result not only opens an avenue in the study of laser-induced ultrafast magnetization dynamics,but also sustains technological implications as a route to promote all-optical non-thermal magnetization dynamics both at shorter timescales-towards the subfemtosecond regime-and at tHz frequencies.

the widespread availability of portable computing power and inexpensive digital cameras are opening up new possibilities for retailers in some markets. One example is in optical shops,where a number of systems exist that facilitate eyeglassess election. these systems are now more necessary as the market is saturated with an increasingly complex array of lenses,frames,coatings,tints,photochromic and polarizing treatments,etc. Research challenges encompass Computer Vision,Multimedia andHuman-Computer Interaction. Cost factors are also of importance for widespread product acceptance. this paper describes alow-cost system that allows the user to visualize different glasses models in live video. the user can also move the glasses toadjust its position on the face. the system,which runs at 9.5 frames/s on general-purpose hardware,has a homeostatic modulethat keeps image parameters controlled. this is achieved by using a camera with motorized zoom,iris,white balance,etc. thisfeature can be specially useful in environments with changing illumination and shadows,like in an optical shop. the system alsoincludes a face and eye detection module and a glasses management module.
