Tropical alpine ecosystems exhibit outstanding plant diversity and endemism while being particularly sensitive to the impacts of climate *** understanding spatiotemporal changes in plant species composition,richness and community structure along tropical alpine altitudinal gradients is of primary importance,both the functional and historical/biogeographic dimensions of vegetation diversity remain largely *** used Generalized Linear Models and multivariate analyses to assess changes in species,growth forms,and biogeographic groups richness and abundance,in response to habitat variables along an elevation gradient in seven summits(3800 to 4600 m asl)in the Venezuelan Andes,studied using the standardized approach of the GLorIA-Andes monitoring *** habitat variables assessed were soil temperature(-10 cm),soil organic matter,slope inclination,and substrate *** found 113 species,representing72 genera,32 families,13 growth forms,and seven biogeographic origins,that included 25%of endemic *** observed richer vegetation,both in terms of species and growth forms,in summits with higher soil temperatures and higher SoM content,as well as higher biogeographic origin richness with increasing soil *** presence of holarctic elements increased toward higher elevations,while the occurrence of austral antarctic elements increased toward lower *** results indicate that biogeographic and functional approaches to vegetation diversity capture well the effect of abiotic filtering on community structuring in these tropical alpine *** findings constitute an important baseline for monitoring vegetation dynamics linked to climate change in the Venezuelan Andes by highlighting the functional and historical perspective on vegetation analyses,in contrast with more traditional approaches,based only on taxonomic species diversity.

AIM To demonstrate the non-inferiority(15% non-inferiority limit) of monotherapy with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate(TDF) vs the combination of lamivudine(LAM) plus adefovir dipivoxil(ADV) in the maintenance of virologic response in patients with chronic hepatitis B(CHB) and prior failure with *** This study was a Phase IV prospective, randomized, open, controlled study with 2 parallel groups(TDF and LAM+ADV) of adult patients with hepatitis B e antigen(HBe Ag)-negative CHB, prior failure with LAM, on treatment with LAM+ADV for at least 6 mo, without prior resistance to ADV and with an undetectable viral load at the start of the study, in 14 Spanish hospitals. The follow-up time for each patient was 48 wk after randomization, with quarterly visits in which the viral load, biochemical and serological parameters, adverse effects, adherence to treatment and consumption of hospital resources were *** Forty-six patients were evaluated [median age: 55.4 years(30.2-75.2); 84.8% male], including 22 patients with TDF and 24 with LAM+ADV. During study development, hepatitis B virus DNA(HBV-DNA) remained undetectable, all patients remained HBe Ag negative, and hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag) positive. Alanine aminotransferase(ALT) values at the end of the study were similar in the 2 groups(25.1± 7.65, TDF vs 24.22 ± 8.38, LAM+ADV, P = 0.646). No significant changes were observed in creatinine or serum phosphorus values in either group. No significant differences between the 2 groups were noted in the identification of adverse effects(AEs)(53.8%, TDF vs 37.5%, LAM+ADV, P = 0.170), and none of the AEs which occurred were serious. Treatment adherence was 95.5% and 83.3% in the TDF and the LAM+ADV groups, respectively(P = 0.488). oBJECTIVES Elderly patients show a higher incidence of ischemic and bleeding events after percutaneous transluminal coron-ary intervention(PCI).We sought to investigate outcomes in elderly patients treated with antithrombotic strategy guided by bleeding and ischemic risks after revascularization with last generation everolimus-eluting stent(EES).METHoDS Prospective multicenter registry including patients over 75 years revascularized with EES and antithrombotic ther-apy guided by clinical presentation,PCI complexity and PrECISE DAPT ***-primary safety endpoints were:(1)composite of cardiac death,myocardial infarction and stent thrombosis and;(2)bleeding(BArC 2-5).Primary efficacy endpoint was target lesion revascularization.A matched group of patients revascularized with current drug-eluting stents and no such tailored antith-rombotic therapy was used as *** Finally,1064 patients were included in SIErrA-75 cohort,80.8±4.2 years,36.6%women,71%acute coronary syn-dromes(ACS)and 53.6%complex ***-primary safety endpoint of major adverse cardiovascular events was met in 6.2%,co-primary safety endpoint of bleeding in 7.8%and primary efficacy endpoint of TKLr in 1.5%.The multivariable adjusted model showed no significant association of the prescribed short/long dual antiplatelet therapy(DAPT)durations with any endpoint suggesting a well tailored *** stent thrombosis reported in the subgroup with 1-3 months DAPT *** compared to control group,bleeding BArC 2-5 was significantly lower in SIErrA-75 group(7.4%vs.10.2%,P=0.04)as well as the net safety-efficacy endpoint(14.3%vs.18.5%,P=0.02).CoNCLUSIoNS In elderly population,the application of this risks-adjusted antithrombotic protocol after revascularization with last generation EES seems to be associated with an improved prognosis in terms of ischemic and bleeding outcomes.

The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system in a car engine is designed to lower the pressure in the crankcase, which otherwise could lead to oil leaks and seal damage. The rotation of crankshaft in the crankcase causes the churn up of oil which conducts to occurrence of oil droplets which in turn may end in the PCV exhaust air intended to be re-injected in the engine admission. The oil catch can (oCC) is a device designed to trap these oil droplets, allowing the air to escape from the crankcase with the lowest content of oil as possible and thus, reducing the generation and emission of extra pollutants during the combustion of the air-fuel mixture. The main purpose of this paper is to optimize the design of a typical oCC used in many commercial cars by varying the length of its inner tube and the relative position of the outlet from radial to tangential fitting to the can body. For this purpose, CFD parametric analysis is performed to compute a one-way coupled Lagrangian-Eulerian two-phase flow simulation of the engine oil droplets driven by the air flow stream running through the device. The study was performed using the finite volume method with second-order spatial discretization scheme on governing equations in the Solid Works-EFD CFD platform. The turbulence was modelled using the k-? model with wall functions. Numerical results have proved that maximum efficiency is obtained for the longest inner tube and the tangential position of the outlet;however, it is recommended further investigation to assess the potential erosion on the bottom of the can under such a design configuration.

Maize Gene regulatory Network for Phenolic Metabolism

The solar energy to electricity power conversion efficiency(PCE) of laboratory perovskite scale cells has been rapidly improved from 3.8% to nowadays 25.7% within a relatively short period of time(13 years). However, these state-of-the-art laboratory perovskite single cells have relatively small areas(ractical for realistic applications. Therefore, it is important to develop low-cost upscalable processes to fabricate large area perovskite solar modules(PSMs) with high PCE and stability.[1-3] The intermediate phase growth and pre-synthesized crystalline perovskite are proposed to improve the uniform and dense perovskite film as well as reduce the defects. Moreover, chemical bath deposition was introduced to upscale the electron transport layer of Sno2 in PSMs. on the basis of aforementioned strategies, the efficiency over 15% for 5×5 cm and 11% for 10×10 cm PSMs were achieved, respectively. Furthermore, the proof-of-concept integrated PSMLi-ion battery-LED device and plastic toy car powered by our PSM in outdoor environment were demonstrated.

The translation of the genotype into phenotype, represented for example by the expression of genes encod- ing enzymes required for the biosynthesis of phytochemicals that are important for interaction of plants with the environment, is largely carried out by transcription factors （TFs） that recognize specific cis-regulatory elements in the genes that they control. TFs and their target genes are organized in gene regulatory net- works （GrNs）, and thus uncovering GrN architecture presents an important biological challenge necessary to explain gene regulation. Linking TFs to the genes they control, central to understanding GrNs, can be car- ried out using gene- or TF-centered approaches. In this study, we employed a gene-centered approach uti- lizing the yeast one-hybrid assay to generate a network of protein-DNA interactions that participate in the transcriptional control of genes involved in the biosynthesis of maize phenolic compounds including gen- eral phenylpropanoids, lignins, and flavonoids. We identified 1100 protein-DNA interactions involving 54 phenolic gene promoters and 568 TFs. A set of 11 TFs recognized 10 or more promoters, suggesting a role in coordinating pathway gene expression. The integration of the gene-centered network with informa- tion derived from TF-centered approaches provides a foundation for a phenolics GrN characterized by in- terlaced feed-forward loops that link developmental regulators with biosynthetic genes.

AIM: To investigate the impact of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAT) in patients on antivitamin K (AVK) regimen requiring percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).METHoDS: Between February 2006 and February 2008, 138 consecutive patients under chronic AVK treatment were enrolled in this registry. of them, 122 received bare metal stent implantation and 16 received drug elutingstent implantation. The duration of DAT, on top of AVK treatment, was decided at the discretion of the clinician. Adequate duration of DAT was def ined according to type of stent implanted and to its clinical indication. rESULTS: The baseline clinical characteristics of patients reflect their high risk, with high incidence of comorbid conditions (Charlson score ≥ 3 in 89% of the patients). At a mean follow-up of 17 ± 11 mo, 22.9% of patients developed a major adverse cardiac event (MACE): 12.6% died from cardiovascular disease and almost 6% had an acute myocardial infarction. Major hemorrhagic events were observed in 7.4%. Adequate DAT was obtained in only 44% of patients. In the multivariate analysis, no adequate DAT and Charlson score were the only independent predictors of MACE (both P = 0.02). CoNCLUSIoN: Patients on chronic AVK therapy represent a high risk population and suffer from a high MACE rate after PCI. An adequate DAT regimen and absence of comorbid conditions are strongly associated with better clinical outcomes.

objective: To evaluate the morbidity due to diabetes mellitus type 2 within the State of San luis Potosí, México, through a strong methodology, through which the multivariate relations were identified of the main social and environmental determiners in the disease, thus managing to quantify their respective levels of responsibility. Material and Methods: This evaluation began as a hypothesis of a multicasual theoretical model on diabetes mellitus and its main determining factors, which was analyzed through the application of multivariate exploratory statistical methodologies and confirmed as it is the case of the principal components analysis and the structural equation models. results: Three components were extracted that explain the 96% of the total variance of the indicators;the main risk factors which were identified in the first component were, the use of the car, age, homes with TV use, urban life and feminine population;the indicators from the second and third component have little influence in the impact of the disease. Conclusions: the study shows the usefulness of the model for the analysis and prioritization of the environmental and social determiners of the disease, information that could sustain the design of public guidelines for the prevention and control of the analyzed disease.
