Resolving species delimitation issues of European Cantharellus is crucial to correctly name chanterelles around the globe.Thirty names referring to Cantharellus s.***.have been described in Europe,some of which are used in other continents.Based on combined analyses of ITS2,LSU,RPB2 and TEF-1,merely eight species are here recognized in Europe applying the genealogical concordance phylogenetic species recognition criteria,one of which,C.roseofagetorum,is described as new.Morphological characters used in species delimitation are mapped and their variability evaluated.The colour of the hymenophore in young specimens is found to be a rather constant morphological character of taxonomic use.European species of Cantharellus are morphologically distinguished by unique combinations of characters,such as the presence of a pink pileal coating,pileus and hymenophore colour when young,and in some cases,the mean spore length and ecology.Eighteen type specimens from Europe are sequenced.Based on revised species concepts sixteen novel taxonomic synonyms are here proposed for European chanterelles:C.alborufescens(=C.henrici,C.ilicis,C.lilacinopruinatus),C.amethysteus(=C.cibarius subsp.squamulosus,C.cibarius var.umbrinus,C.rufipes),C.cibarius(=C.cibarius var.atlanticus,C.parviluteus),C.ferruginascens(=C.cibarius var.flavipes),C.friesii(=C.ignescens),C.pallens(=C.cibarius var.albidus,C.cibarius var.bicolor,C.subpruinosus),and C.romagnesianus(=C.pseudominimus,C.lourizanianus,C.romagnesianus var.parvisporus).The type of Cantharellus,C.cibarius,is epitypified.Descriptions,colour illustrations and a key to all European species are provided.

Strategies for the analysis of single-tree plot experiments in Eucalyptus plantations

To verify if the response by Eucalyptus clones in a single-tree plot is influenced by neighboring plants and to determine the effect of missing and/or dominated plants,seven eucalyptus trials in four Brazilian states were analyzed in a randomized complete block design with one plant/plot and 30 replications.Mean annual increment(MAI,m^(3)ha^(-1)per year)was determined for three-year-old clones.The influence of neighboring clones was estimated by a linear regression coefficient between the MAI of each clone/plot and the average of a clonal MAI and its eight neighbors.To determine the effect of missing and/or dominated trees,a correction between the MAI and the area available/plant was applied.Subsequent analysis considered unadjusted and adjusted data for missing and dominated trees.Estimate of accuracy and index of coincidence were used to compare the adjustments.In single-tree plots,clone performances were not influenced by neighboring plants.Experimental accuracy was not increased by any of the adjustments employed and the clone ranking was not altered,and therefore did not justify their use.

BACKGROUND Cryptococcosis is a fungal infection caused by the yeast-like encapsulated basidiomycetous fungus of the Cryptococcus neoformans(C.neoformans)species complex.These fungi are ubiquitous in soil and bird droppings,and infection by them is an important global health concern,particularly in immunosuppressed patients,such as organ transplant recipients and those infected by the human immunodeficiency virus.The fungus usually enters the body through the respiratory tract,but extremely rare cases of infection acquired by transplantation of solid organs have been reported.CASE SUMMARY We report a case of disseminated cryptococcosis in a liver transplant recipient,diagnosed 2 wk after the procedure.The patient initially presented with fever,hyponatremia and elevated transaminase levels,manifesting intense headache after a few days.Blood cultures were positive for C.neoformans.Liver biopsy showed numerous fungal elements surrounded by gelatinous matrix and sparse granulomatous formations.Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed multiple small lesions with low signal in T2,peripheric enhancement and edematous halo,diffuse through the parenchyma but more concentrated in the subcortical regions.Treatment with amphotericin B for 3 wk,followed by maintenance therapy with fluconazole,led to complete resolution of the symptoms.The recipients of both kidneys from the same donor also developed disseminated cryptococcosis,confirming the transplant as the source of infection.The organ donor lived in a rural area,surrounded by tropical rainforest,and had negative blood cultures prior to organ procurement.CONCLUSION This case highlights the risk of transmission of fungal diseases,specifically of C.neoformans,through liver graft during liver transplantation.

Precipitation-hardened aluminum alloys need to be heat treated to achieve the mechanical properties required for their application.The production of these materials can be optimized to make them more attractive and competitive comparing to other materials such as composites that have a growing and large market share in aeronautics field.One way to do this is by controlling the artificial aging of precipitation-hardenable aluminum alloys,such as the 2000 series Al-Cu alloys.These alloys can be monitored in real time by analyzing their conductivity behavior inside the furnace.The objective of this work is to evaluate the electrical conductivity behavior in real time of the 2024 alloy during the artificial aging at 190°C.For this,analyses were made in order to assess the behavior of the microhardness curve by aging time and its microstructural characterization with thermal treatments in the times of 1 h to 9 h interrupted every 1 h.The results of the electrical conductivity versus hardness curve showed a significant correlation and indicate that this measure has great potential to be used as a tool to control the thermal treatment of aging.

Height-to-diameter ratios(HD)are an important measure of the stability,density and competition of forest stands.It refl ects the vertical growth of the trees,the vulnerability of the forest canopy structure and infl uences volumetric production.HD ratios vary according to tree size,availability of resources for growth,stand density and species composition.Data were taken from 210 trees and a regression technique of generalized linear models for the HD ratio applicable for forest structure conservation was developed.The objective of this study was to model the HD ratios of dominant and co-dominant trees of Araucaria angustifolia according to morphometric,dendrometric,annual diameter increment,stand density,and age variables in three sites in southern Brazil.The results show that the HD ratio decreases with increasing age,crown area and basal area,and increases with stand density and annual diameter increment.Accuracy of the developed equations was demonstrated by the values of deviation,Bayesian and Akaike criteria.The results are of interest to forest managers since they make decisions about silvicultural operations.Growth continuity and forest production indicate that any intervention should be directed at younger trees of smaller sizes,and that one of the main management factors for stand stability and growth is the formation of the stand and its capture of light.

This article is an extensive review that provides an update on the pathophysiology,symptoms,diagnosis,and treatment of diabetic gastroenteropathy.There is no reported prevalence,but it has been described that patients with type 1 diabetes have a cumulative incidence at 10 years of 5.2%,and type 2 patients,1%.Also,in the group of type 1 diabetes,it has been observed that women are more likely to present this condition(5.8%vs 3.5%).Many factors are associate with its development(e.g.,hyperglycemia,vagal dysfunction,loss of expression of neural nitric oxide synthase in the myenteric plexus,alterations in the Cajal interstitial cell network,and oxidative stress).Gastrointestinal discomfort could be perceived 70% higher in diabetic patients,describing that 25%of diabetic patients experience gastrointestinal symptoms.Diabetic enteropathy could affect any portion of the gastrointestinal tract,but esophageal alterations were described in more than 60% of diabetic patients,also 60% of them present constipation,and 20%,diarrhea.Gastric emptying scintigraphy is useful to evaluate gastroparesis,therefore,gastric retention of more than 60%at 2 h has a sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 20% for diagnosis;however,other studies such as breath tests,with a sensitivity of 89% and a specificity of 80%,or the endoscopic capsule contribute to the diagnosis.There is no cure;however,management must be multidisciplinary,focused on slowing the progression of diabetic gastroenteropathy,reducing symptoms,and restoring function;that includes nutritional recommendation,maintain glucose levels kept below 180 mg/dL,use of prokinetics,anti-emetics;nowadays,it has been special interest in surgical treatment,such as pyloroplasty,also gastric electrical stimulation appears to be another alternative.

AIM：To compare the effect of phacoemulsification on intraocular pressure（IOP）in patients with primary open angle glaucoma（POAG）and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma（PXG）.METHODS：A retrospective comparative case series conducted at the Glaucoma Department at the Association to Prevent Blindness in Mexico.The study enrolled consecutive patients having phacoemulsification with intraocular lens（IOL）implantation and a diagnosis of POAG or PXG.Data about IOP values and number of glaucoma medications used was collected at baseline,1,3,6 and12mo postoperatively.RESULTS：The study enrolled 88 patients（88 eyes）.After phacoemulsification,there was a statistically significant reduction in IOP values and glaucoma medications use compared to baseline in both POAG and PXG patients（P〈0.001）.In the POAG group,a 20%decrease in IOP values was evidenced,and a 56.5%reduction in the number of medications used at the one-year follow-up.The PXG group showed a 20.39%,and a 34.46%decrease in IOP and number of medications used,respectively.A significant difference in the meanΔIOP（postoperative changes in IOP）was evidenced between groups（P=0.005）.The reduction of the postsurgical IOP mean values in both groups,the POAG group showed a greater reduction in IOP values compared to the PXG group.CONCLUSION：In both types of glaucoma,phacoemulsification cataract surgery can result in a significant IOP reduction（20%）over a 12mo follow-up period.The number of medications used is also significantly reduced up to 12mo after surgery,especially in the PXG group.
