Malnutrition negatively impacts the quality of life of patients with cirrhosis: An observational study

AIMTo verify how malnutrition is related to health-related quality of life (HRQL) impairment in patients with cirrhosis. METHoDSData was retrospectively abstracted from medical records and obtained by direct interview. We included patients with cirrhosis from any etiology, evaluated at the Liver Clinic from Gastroenterology Department in a tertiary healthcare center, from June 2014 to June 2016. Child-Pugh score, data about complications, and demographic, clinical and anthropometric characteristics of patients were obtained. Nutritional status was evaluated by the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA). HRQL was evaluated through the Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire. Patients were requested to assess their global HRQL with the following code: 0 = impairment of HRQL, when it was compared with other healthy subjects; 1 = good HRQL, if it was similar to the quality of life of other healthy subjects. To compare the primary outcome between malnourished and well-nourished groups, the χ2 test, fisher’s exact test or Student’s t-test were used, based on the variable type. Associations between predictor variables and deterioration of HRQL were determined by calculating the hazard ratio and 95% confidence interval using Cox proportional hazards regression. RESULTSA total of 127 patients with cirrhosis were included, and the mean age was 54.1 ± 12.3 years-old. According to Child-Pugh scoring, 25 (19.7%) were classified as A (compensated), 76 (59.8%) as B, and 26 (20.5%) as C (B/C = decompensated). According to SGA, 58 (45.7%) patients were classified as well-nourished. Sixty-nine patients identified HRQL as good, and 76 patients (59.8%) perceived impairment of their HRQL. Multivariate analysis to determine associations between predictor variables and self-perception of an impairment of HRQL found strong association with malnutrition (P P CoNCLUSIoNMalnutrition is a key factor related to impairment of HRQL in patients with cirrhosis.

Domestication of cranberry and blueberry began in the United States in the early 1800s and 1900s,respectively,and in part owing to their f lavors and health-promoting benefits are now cultivated and consumed *** industry continues to face a wide variety of production challenges(*** pressures),as well as a demand for higher-yielding cultivars with improved fruit quality ***,molecular tools to help guide breeding efforts for these species have been relatively limited compared with those for other high-value ***,we describe the construction and analysis of the first pangenome for both blueberry and *** analysis of these pangenomes revealed both crops exhibit great genetic diversity,including the presence-absence variation of 48.4%genes in highbush blueberry and 47.0%genes in *** genes,those not shared by all cultivars,are significantly enriched with molecular functions associated with disease resistance and the biosynthesis of specialized metabolites,including compounds previously associated with improving fruit quality *** discovery of thousands of genes,not present in the previous reference genomes for blueberry and cranberry,will serve as the basis of future research and as potential targets for future breeding *** pangenome,as a multiple-sequence alignment,as well as individual annotated genomes,are publicly available for analysis on the Genome Database for Vaccinium-a curated and integrated web-based relational ***,the core-gene predictions from the pangenomes will serve useful to develop a community genotyping platform to guide future molecular breeding efforts across the family.

Static-based early-damage detection using symbolic data analysis and unsupervised learning methods

A large amount of researches and studies have been recently performed by applying statistical and machine learning techniques for vibration-based damage detection. However, the global character inherent to the limited number of modal properties issued from operational modal analysis may be not appropriate for early-damage, which has generally a local character. The present paper aims at detecting this type of damage by using static SHM data and by assuming that early-damage produces dead load redistribution. To achieve this objective a data driven strategy is proposed, consisting of the combination of advanced statistical and machine learning methods such as principal component analysis, symbolic data analysis and cluster analysis. from this analysis it was observed that, under the noise levels measured on site, the proposed strategy is able to automatically detect stiffness reduction in stay cables reaching at least 1%.

Kinetic analysis via mathematical modeling for ferrous iron oxidation in a class of SBR-type system

This paper analyses the oxidation of ferrous iron via chemical and biological means in a class of Sequential Batch Reactors(SBR-type).for this,a kinetic model for the study of iron oxidation system is proposed,followed by a parametric sensitivity analysis and a bifurcation analysis,which allow selecting the most influential kinetic parameters in order to ensure a suitable prediction capacity of the mathematical *** system consists of two SBR bioreactors,the first being used to produce hydrogen peroxide(H2o2)that is fed to a second reactor where the iron oxidation is carried out by chemical–biological *** predictions were compared with experimental data for the production of H2o2 and for ferrous iron oxidation,finding suitable correlation coefficients(r2 N 0.98)for each state *** bifurcation analysis showed the trajectories of the main variables,such as,biomass,H2o2 and ferrous iron,under the change of the most influential kinetic *** analysis demonstrates the usefulness of the constructed model to predict the kinetic behaviour of the SBR-type process.

In analyzing gene families in the whole-genome sequences available for o. sativa （AA）, o. glaberrima （AA）, and o. brachyantha （ff）, we observed large size expansions in the AA genomes compared to ff genomes for the superfamilies f-box and NB-ARC, and five additional families： the Aspartic proteases, BTB/PoZ proteins （BTB）, Glutaredoxins, Trypsin a-amylase inhibitor proteins, and Zf-Dof proteins. Their evolutionary dynamic was investigated to understand how and why such important size variations are observed between these closely related species. We show that expansions resulted from both amplification, largely by tandem duplications, and contraction by gene losses. for the f-box and NB-ARC gene families, the genes conserved in all species were under strong purifying selection while expanded orthologous genes were under more relaxed purifying selection. In f-box, NB-ARC, and BTB, the expanded groups were enriched in genes with little evidence of expression, in comparison with conserved groups. We also detected 87 loci under positive selection in the expanded groups. These results show that most of the duplicated copies in the expanded groups evolve neutrally after duplication because of functional redundancy but a fraction of these genes were preserved following neofunctionalization. Hence, the lineage-specific expansions observed between oryza species were partly driven by directional selection.

A multivariate analysis on spatiotemporal evolution of Covid-19 in Brazil

This data-driven work aims to analyze and classify the spatiotemporal distribution of all Brazilian states considering data so diverse as the number of Covid-19 cases,deaths,confirmed cases per 100 k inhabitants,mortality per 100 k inhabitants and case fatality rates as health *** also considered population,area and population density as geographic ***,GDP and HDI were taken into account as economic and social *** this task data were collected from April 3rd until August 8th,2020,corresponding to epidemiological weeks 14e32,reaching three million cases and a hundred thousand *** this data it was possible to classify Brazilian states using multivariate methods into possible groups by means of non-hierarchical(k-means)cluster as well as factor *** was possible to group all states plus the federal District into five clusters,taking into account these 10 variables over the first five months of the *** changes between states were observed over time and clusters,and between three and four factors were ***,even with great difference on health indicators during days,the number of clusters remains ***,S^ao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro states were ranked at top list taking into account all epidemiological *** were observed between variables,such as the number of Covid cases and deaths with GDP for most of epidemiological *** clusters were more critical due to specific variables,including cities that are main *** multivariate findings would provide a comprehensive description of the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic and may help to guide subsequent studies to understand and control virus transmission.

Ni-based catalysts obtained from perovskites oxides for ethanol steam reforming

Perovskites as host structures of cations were used in order to generate in situ active and stable catalysts for ethanol steam reforming. for this purpose,La_(1-x)Mg_xAl_(1-y)Ni_yo_3(x = 0.1; y = 0,0.1,0.2,0.3) perovskites were synthetized by the citrate *** segregation is evident for a substitution level higher than 0. 2. The segregation of Ni as Nio generated species interacts with different metal-support after the reduction step. The y = 0.1 catalyst presents the highest H_2 yield value about 85% during reaction time,with low mean values of CH_4 and Co selectivities of 3.4% and 11%,respectively and a low carbon formation. The better performance of y = 0.1 catalyst could be attributed to the minor proportion of segregated phases,thus a controlled expulsion of Ni is successfully reached.
