A new approach for the treatment of CLL using chlorambucil/hydroxychloroquine-loaded anti-CD20 nanoparticles

Current approaches for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia （CLL） have greatly improved the prognosis for survival, but some patients remain refractive to these therapeutic regimens. Hence, in addition to reducing the long-term side- effects of therapeutics for all leukemia patients, there is an urgent need for novel therapeutic strategies for difficult-to-treat leukemia cases. Due to the cytotoxicity of drugs, the major challenge currently is to deliver the therapeutic agents to neoplastic cells while preserving the viability of non-malignant ceils. In this study, we propose a therapeutic approach in which high doses of hydroxychloroquine and chlorambucil were loaded into biodegradable polymeric nanopartides coated with an anti-CD20 *** first demonstrated the ability of the nanoparticles to target and internalize in tumor B-cells. Moreover, these nanoparticles could kill not only p53-mutated]deleted leukemia cells expressing a low amount of CD20, but also circulating primary ceils isolated from chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients. The safety of these nanoparticles was also demonstrated in healthy mice, and their therapeutic effects were shown in a new model of aggressive leukemia. These results showed that anti-CD20 nanoparticles containing hydroxychloroquine and chlorambucil can be effective in controlling aggressive leukemia and provided a rationale for adopting this approach for the treatment of other B-cell disorders.

Ischaemic heart disease(IHD)is a major cause of morbidity and mortality *** there have been major advances in this field,these patients are still a higher risk *** such,strategies to mitigate risk and tailor secondary prevention measures are of the utmost *** rehabilitation(CR),encompassing several domains including exercise training,cardiovascular risk factor optimization,nutritional and psychological assessments,as well as other ancillary interventions has shown to be one of the pillars in the contemporary management of patients with ***,CR is associated with several benefits in this population,ranging from functional capacity to improvements in *** this,there are still several issues concerning the optimal application of CR which are still not fully ascertained,such as lack of referral and completion,as well as questions related to programme design(particularly among patients with multiple comorbidities).In this review,we aim at presenting a pragmatic overview on the current role of CR in the management of individuals with IHD,while also discussing some of the caveats in the current data,as well as future concepts which could help improve the uptake and personalization of this pivotal time-tested intervention.

One of the most important problems in the study of transient stability of power systems is the determination of perturbation’s maximum time of permanence without losing the synchronism of the generators that feed the network. The problem is generally solved by either the application of the equal-area criterion or through numerical integration methods. In the present work, the phase-plane is proposed as an alternative tool to solve the above-mentioned problem with greater efficiency.

determining the levels of heavy metals in honey is a measure to control its quality. The objective of this study was to determine the contents of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in honey of stingless bee. The differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) was used to determine the trace elements in honey samples. Pb was detected in 100% of the samples, Cu and Zn in 98.15%, and Cd only in 33.33%. The trace elements analyzed detected in the samples remained within tolerable levels in foods for human consumption.

AIM:To determine the prevalence of a family history suggestive of Lynch syndrome (LS) among patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) followed in a coloproctology outpatient clinic in Southern ***:A consecutive sample of patients with CRC were interviewed regarding personal and family histories of *** data and pathology features of the tumor were obtained from chart ***:Of the 212 CRC patients recruited,61 (29%) reported a family history of CRC,45 (21.2%) were diagnosed under age 50 years and 11 (5.2%) had more than one primary *** histories consistent with Amsterdam and revised Bethesda criteria for LS were identified in 22 (10.4%) and 100 (47.2%) patients,*** percent of the colorectal tumors had features of the high microsatellite instability phenotype,which was associated with younger age at CRC diagnosis and with Bethesda criteria (P < 0.001).Only 5.3% of the patients above age 50 years had been previously submitted for CRC screening and only 4% of patients with suspected LS were referred for genetic risk ***:A significant proportion of patients with CRC were at high risk for *** and training of health care professionals are essential to ensure proper management.

Integration of Energy and Fire Prevention Systems in Green Building

Green buildings should be sustainable, efficient, economical, and to improve the quality of life of users and nearby residents. Unfortunately, some architecture features fostered by energy and environmental certifications do not comply with fire prevention codes. Several factors can influence a building＇s energy efficiency and fire safety, such as bigger or smaller glass areas, building material thermal inertia, and the use of sustainable solutions such as green roofs. In this work, a methodology for integrating energy efficiency and fire prevention in green buildings is presented. A case study comparing a full glass skin and a building with 40% window size is considered. Also, the methodology permits modifications for obtaining a safe and energy efficient building.

Genetic Parameters Estimates Associated to Conversion of Nicotine to Nornicotine in Burley Tobacco

Nicotine represents the predominant alkaloid in cultivated tobacco. In burley varieties, during senescence and curing of leaves, nicotine can be converted to nornicotine, which is highly undesirable because of its relationship with the tobacco specific nitrosamines formation. Thus, an alternative for producing varieties with low or null nornicotine content would be to select plants or progenies for traits related to nicotine conversion. Therefore, understanding genetic control and inheritance underlying this process is important to chooseappropriate strategies in breeding programs. Two contrasting inbred lines for nicotine conversion to nornicotine, TN 90 and BY 37, have been crossed to obtain the segregating generations (F2 and BCs). Genetic parameters of mean and variance, as well as the average degree of dominance and heritability were estimated. It has been found that nicotine conversion has predominantly additive effects, and in addition, narrow sense heritabilities at the individual level were higher than 65%. Both are desirable conditions for conducting a selection program of burley tobacco aiming at development of inbred lines associating yield and other traits with low or null nicotine conversion.

Analogy between the Formulation of Ising-Glauber Model and Si Epidemiological Model

From the mathematical point of view, the modeling of epidemics—in other words, the spread of infectious diseases transmitted from individual to individual—is very similar to the modeling of the magnetic systems studied by statistical physics. In this work, we use this analogy between mathematical epidemiology and statistical physics to study the classical mathematical model of epidemiology SI (Susceptible-Infected) approached through the Ising-Glauber model, in which individuals would be represented by atoms with spins -1 (susceptible) and 1 (infected). A Monte Carlo computational simulation was also performed for the Ising-Glauber model in a square network, where each network point represents an individual and the down and up spins represent susceptible and infected individuals.

Management of Insect Vectors of Viruses in Tomato Plants Using Different densities of Yellow Traps

The initial phase of tomato is critical to the infestation of insect vectors of viruses. Therefore, this study aimed to test the use of yellow card traps around the crop to manage insect vectors of viruses and test the best density of traps/tomato plants. Yellow card traps were placed on the border of the crop plot to capture adult insect vectors. density of trap/tomato plant was assessed in 10 blocks at the following levels： 1/25; 1/50; 1/75; 1/100; 1/125; 1/150. The monitoring was carded out in 1% of the crop during 60 days in 2011 and 2012 crop. The evaluated systems were Conventional and Phytosanitary Pest Management （PPM）. During 2011 season the Conventional system received 14 insecticide applications whereas only 6 insecticide applications were made on the PPM, representing a reduction of 133%. In 2012, the crop under Conventional system was subjected to 15 applications of insecticides, over 8 on PPM, with a reduction of 87.5%. The PPM allowed a 90% reduction in application cost for this insects, obtaining a reduction of R$1,345.00/ha. The highest density was 60 plants/trap. We can conclude that the yellow card traps in tomato crop decreased infestations of insect vectors of viruses.
