mean-variance portfolio optimization models are sensitive to uncertainty in risk-return estimates,which may result in poor out-of-sample *** particular,the estimates may suffer when the number of assets considered is high and the length of the return time series is not sufficiently *** is precisely the case in the cryptocur-rency market,where there are hundreds of crypto assets that have been traded for a few *** propose enhancing the mean-variance(mV)model with a pre-selection stage that uses a prototype-based clustering algorithm to reduce the number of crypto assets considered at each investment *** the pre-selection stage,we run a prototype-based clustering algorithm where the assets are described by variables representing the profit-risk *** prototypes of the clustering partition are auto-matically examined and the one that best suits our risk-aversion preference is *** then run the mV portfolio optimization with the crypto assets of the selected *** proposed approach is tested for a period of 17 months in the whole cryp-tocurrency market and two selections of the cryptocurrencies with the higher market capitalization(175 and 250 cryptos).We compare the results against three methods applied to the whole market:classic mV,risk parity,and hierarchical risk parity *** also compare our results with those from investing in the market index *** simulation results generally favor our proposal in terms of profit and risk-profit financial *** result reaffirms the convenience of using machine learning methods to guide financial investments in complex and highly-volatile environments such as the cryptocurrency market.

Gallbladder cancer(GBC)is a rare malignancy worldwide,with 140,000 new patients each year and more than 100,000 deaths *** review aims to address the controversial aspects of managing *** differences of the study worldwide remain pending,and comparative mutational profiles will provide more information on the pathogenesis of ***,certain pathologic aspects are discussed,such as the staging of early GBC,outcome differences between T2 pathologically staged patients,and the necessity of a uni-form pathologic *** surgical management of GBC is still under *** extent of liver resection,type of lymphadenectomy,and selection of patients for extended resection are aspects of the disease that require *** and robotic approaches were initially slow to ***,with time,they have demonstrated their value in the surgical management of *** OmEGA survey,performed to analyze the management practice of surgical treatment of GBC worldwide,demonstrated differences from the recom-mended *** OmEGA study,the largest cohort study,examined the outcomes of surgical intervention in 3676 patients from 133 *** future directions,the value of collaborative efforts between centers and regions must be emphasized to better un-derstand the different aspects of the disease and globally improve therapeutic strategies for GBC.

Targeted nanoparticles for the non-invasive detection of traumatic brain injury by optical imaging and fluorine magnetic resonance imaging

Necrosis is a form of cell death that occurs only under pathological conditions such as ischemic diseases and traumatic brain injury （TBI）. Non-invasive imaging of the affected tissue is a key component of novel therapeutic interventions and measurement of treatment responses in patients. Here, we report a bimodal approach for the detection and monitoring of TBI. PEGylated poly（lactic-coglycolic acid）（PLGA） nanoparticles （NPs）, encapsulating both near infrared （NIR） fluorophores and perfluorocarbons （PFCs）, were targeted to necrotic ceils. We used cyanine dyes such as IRDye 800CW, for which we have previously demonstrated specific targeting to intracellular proteins of cells that have lost membrane integrity. Here, we show specific in vivo detection of necrosis by optical imaging and fluorine magnetic resonance imaging （^19F mRI） using newly designed PLGA NP（NIR700 ＋ PFC）-PEG-800CW. Quantitative ex vivo optical imaging and ^19F mR spectroscopy of NIR-PFC content in injured brain regions and in major organs were well correlated. Both modalities allowed the in vivo identification of necrotic brain lesions in a mouse model of TBI, with optical imaging being more sensitive than ^19F mRI. Our results confirm increased blood pool residence time of PLGA NPs coated with a PEG layer and the successful targeting of TBI-damaged tissue. A single PLGA NP containing NIR-PFC enables both rapid qualitative optical monitoring of the TBI state and quantitative 3D information from deeper tissues on the extent of the lesion by mRI. These necrosis-targeting PLGA NPs can potentially be used for clinical diagnosis of brain injuries.

Ti6Al4V powders with three different particle size distributions(0–20, 20–45, and 45–75 μm) were used to evaluate the effect of the particle size distribution on the solid-state sintering and their mechanical properties. The sintering kinetics was determined by dilatometry at temperatures from 900 to 1260°C. The mechanical properties of the sintered samples were evaluated by microhardness and compression tests. The sintering kinetics indicated that the predominant mechanism depends on the relative density irrespective of the particle size used. The mechanical properties of the sintered samples are adversely affected by increasing pore volume fraction. The elastic Young's modulus and yield stress follow a power law function of the relative density. The fracture behavior after compression is linked to the neck size developed during sintering, exhibiting two different mechanisms of failure: interparticle neck breaking and intergranular cracking in samples with relative densities below and above of 90%, respectively. The main conclusion is that relative density is responsible for the kinetics, mechanical properties, and failure behavior of Ti6 Al4 V powders.

The widespread availability of portable computing power and inexpensive digital cameras are opening up new possibilities for retailers in some markets. One example is in optical shops,where a number of systems exist that facilitate eyeglassess election. These systems are now more necessary as the market is saturated with an increasingly complex array of lenses,frames,coatings,tints,photochromic and polarizing treatments,etc. Research challenges encompass Computer Vision,multimedia andHuman-Computer Interaction. Cost factors are also of importance for widespread product acceptance. This paper describes alow-cost system that allows the user to visualize different glasses models in live video. The user can also move the glasses toadjust its position on the face. The system,which runs at 9.5 frames/s on general-purpose hardware,has a homeostatic modulethat keeps image parameters controlled. This is achieved by using a camera with motorized zoom,iris,white balance,etc. Thisfeature can be specially useful in environments with changing illumination and shadows,like in an optical shop. The system alsoincludes a face and eye detection module and a glasses management module.

Effect of treatment failure on the Cag A EPIYA motif in Helicobacter pylori strains from Colombian subjects

AIm To evaluate effect of treatment failure on cag A and vac A genotypes in Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) isolates from *** One hundred and seventy-six participants infected with H. pylori from Colombia were treated during 14 d with the triple-standard therapy. Six weeks later, eradication was evaluated by 13C-Urea breath test. Patients with treatment failure were subjected to endoscopy control; biopsies obtained were used for histopathology and culture. DNA from H. pylori isolates was amplified using primers specific for cag A and vac A genes. The phylogenetic relationships among isolates obtained before and after treatment were established by conglomerate analysis based on random amplified polymorphic DNA(RAPD) *** Treatment effectiveness was at 74.6%. Of the par-ticipants with treatment failure, 25 accepted subjected to a second endoscopy. Prevalence of posttreatment infection was 64%(16/25) and 40%(10/25) by histology and culture, respectively. Upon comparing the cag A and vac A genotypes found before and after therapy, multiple cag A genotypes(cag A-positive and cag A-negative) were found before treatment; in contrast, cag A-negative genotypes decreased after treatment. vac A s1m1 genotype was highly prevalent in patients before and after therapy. The 3'cag A region was successfully amplified in 95.5%(21/22) of the isolates obtained before and in 81.8%(18/22) of the isolates obtained after treatment. In the isolates obtained from patients with treatment failure, it was found that 72.7%(16/22) presented alterations in the number of EPIYA motifs, compared to isolates found before *** Unsuccessful treatment limits colonization by lowvirulence strains resulting in partial and selective eradication in mixed infections, and acts on the cag A-positive strains inducing genetic rearrangements in cag A variable region that produces a loss or gain of EPIYA repetitions.
