Bacteriophages assisted bacteria to facilitate soil multifunctionality under organochlorine pesticide contamination

As the most abundant living entities in the environment, viruses have been well recognized as crucial members in sustaining biogeochemical cycling. However, the significance of viruses in soil ecosystem multifunctionality remains under-explored. In this study, we used metagenomics and meta-viromics analysis to investigate the role of soil viruses in soil ecosystem functions under heavy, light, and no organochlorine pesticides(OCPs) contamination. In the three types of soil samples collected, lightcontaminated soils supported the highest level of multifunctionality, followed by heavy-contaminated soils and clean ***, our results revealed a positive correlation between bacterial community evenness and multifunctionality index(p l species with biodegradation and stress resistance advantages exhibited higher abundance in OCPaffected soils, potentially playing a core functional supporting role. Furthermore, our results indicated that the species richness and diversity of bacteriophages were positively correlated with multifunctionality(p soils. Bacteriophages in OCP-affected soils regulate host metabolism and enhance soil ecosystem multifunctionality by infecting functional bacterial hosts and encoding AMGs related to soil element cycling. Our findings emphasize the potential effect of phages on ecosystem multifunctionality in contaminated soil, suggesting that phages may serve as contributors to soil ecology beyond bacteria and other microorganisms. Therefore, in polluted or constrained soils, further research could potentially translate phage communities and related ecological processes into artificial methods for application in soil pollution remediation or ecological restoration.

Tracking the maximum power point of solar panels through direct estimation of optimum voltage with temperature

Electricity production from photovoltaic(PV)panels is maximized when the operating point is located at the maximum power point thanks to dedicated *** controllers are driven to track the maximum power by using various algorithms within distributed or centralized architectures accounting for factors such as partial irradiation and temperature *** effect of irradiance on the optimal panel voltage is weak or even negligible,while it is strong and quasi-linear-dependent on *** on this observation,this article introduces a straightforward method for tracking the maximum power of a PV panel by using an optimizer,focusing solely on its temperature response as an input *** proposed approach hinges on linearizing the relationship between panel temperature and operating *** relationship enables the estimation of the maximum power point through temperature measurement ***,after determination of the linear temperature coefficient of the voltage requiring only the knowledge of two optimal voltages at different temperatures,for example from the datasheet of the panel,the power tracking involves only one temperature sensor placed on the panel alongside a voltage sensor for *** principle,modelling,and validation post-panel ageing of the method are detailed in this ***,conducted using real experimental irradiation and temperature data,attests to the effectiveness of the *** indicate an average effectiveness of the method of>99.1%in tracking the maximum power,with the panel generating 2.33 kWh out of a possible 2.35 *** performance is comparable to that of tracking devices employing more complex *** simplicity and efficiency of the method make it a promising option for maximizing the power production at low cost from PV systems in small or residential,on-or off-grid connected applications.

Influence of biomass burning on ozone levels in the Megalopolis of Central Mexico during the COVID-19 lockdown

The massive reductions in anthropogenic emissions resulting from the COVID-19 lockdown provided a unique opportunity to evaluate the effect of mitigation measures aiming to abate air *** Mexico,the total lockdown period took place during the dry-hot season when biomass burning activity is ***,we investigate the role of biomass burning emissions on regional ozone levels in the Megalopolis of Central *** studied period covers the lockdown phases 2 and 3,and the first month of the New *** applied a factor separation technique and process analysis to estimate the pure and synergistic contributions of emission reductions under lockdown and that from biomass burning to daily ozone maximum concentrations in 7 metropolitan areas of different states in the *** results revealed that biomass burning plumes likely masked the effect of massive reductions from mobile emissions,impacted the PBl development during phase 3 and favored transition and mixed NO_(x)-limited and VOC-limited regional *** contributed to increased ozone production in the middle to lower PBl by changing the regional background levels which potentially could bias high ozone production efficiency *** the Megalopolis contribution to economic and societal development at national scale,our study suggests that ozone mitigation measures during the dry-hot season targeting mainly mobile emissions will likely be offset by biomass burning plumes.A regional and synergic policy aiming to control biomass burning would help to reduce the occurrence of high ozone levels in Central Mexico with the co-benefit of tackling short-lived climate pollutants.

Residents’perceptions of ecosystem services in an urbanizing basin:A case study in the Guanting Reservoir basin,China

Understanding stakeholders’differences in perceptions of ecosystem services(Es)is crucial for guiding ecolog-ical conservation and ***,the variations of Es perception amongst different types of residents in urbanizing areas along an urban-rural gradient are still poorly *** a questionnaire-based survey,redundancy analysis,and statistical tests,we delineated the urban-rural gradient according to local res-idents’socio-economic characteristics,and investigated the differences in local residents’perceptions of Es and potential factors affecting them in the Guanting Reservoir basin,a rapidly urbanizing basin in *** results showed that residents living in urban-rural transitional areas attached great importance to provisioning services of providing food and domestic water,regulating services of carbon sequestration and air purification,and cul-tural services of providing education and training,which were 0.7%-13.1%,0.7%-9.1%and 2.5%-21.2%higher than that of residents in other areas,*** and occupation were major factors affecting residents’*** terms of land-use types that deliver Es,the difference in perceptions of Es delivered by grassland was the greatest amongst *** results support recommendations for policymakers to take into account the stakeholders’diverse perceptions,thus promoting residents’sense of gain on Es.

Adult neurogenesis,the process of creating new neurons,involves the coordinated division,migration,and differentiation of neural stem *** process is restricted to neurogenic niches located in two distinct areas of the brain:the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus and the subventricular zone of the lateral ventricle,where new neurons are generated and then migrate to the olfactory *** has been thought to occur only during the embryonic and early postnatal stages and to decline with age due to a continuous depletion of neural stem ***,recent years have seen tremendous progress in our understanding of adult brain neurogenesis,bridging the knowledge gap between embryonic and adult ***,we discuss the current status of adult brain neurogenesis in light of what we know about neural stem *** this notion,we talk about the importance of intra cellular signaling molecules in mobilizing endogenous neural stem cell prolife *** on the current understanding,we can declare that these molecules play a role in targeting neurogenesis in the mature ***,to achieve this goal,we need to avoid the undesired proliferation of neural stem cells by controlling the necessary checkpoints,which can lead to tumorigenesis and prove to be a curse instead of a blessing or hope.
