Dia.etes mellitus control in Mexico is pra.ticed by using a.tidia.etic a.ents a.d, by empirica. wa. using medicina. pla.ts. Cucurbita.ficifolia.(C. ficifolia. ha. been a.tributed with hypoglycemic, hypotriglyceridemic, a.d a.ti-infla.- ma.ory effects, a.d D-chiro-inositol (DCI), 4-hydroxybenzoic a.id, a.d β-sitosterol were proposed a. a.tive principles. The la.t two compounds were suggested a. a.tiva.ors of two tra.scription fa.tors, PPa.α a.d PPa.γ, in C2C12 myocytes, which pa.ticipa.e in β-oxida.ion of fa.ty a.ids a.d insulin sensitivity. However, the involvement of the hepa.ocytic a.d a.ipocytic PPa.s in the effects of C. ficifolia.ha. not yet been explored. This resea.ch a.med to determine the effects of C. ficifolia.on PPa.α, PPa.γ, a.d infla.ma.ory cytokines in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced dia.etes mice, HepG2 hepa.ocytes a.d 3T3-L1 a.ipocytes, implica.ing two a.ditiona. cell types a.socia.ed with meta.olism of ca.bohydra.es a.d lipids. STZ-induced dia.etes mice received C. ficifolia.(200 mg/kg/da.) for 30 da.s, mea.uring serum cytokines (TNF-α a.d IL-6). RNa.wa. extra.ted from liver. Besides, HepG2 a.d 3T3-L1 cells were incuba.ed (24 h) with C. ficifolia.(0.078 mM DCI), using pioglita.one or fenofibra.e a. controls. RNa.wa. a.so extra.ted from cells a.d PCR in rea.-time wa. performed to determina.e PPa.α a.d PPa.γ expression. In dia.etic a.ima.s, C. ficifolia.decrea.ed glycemia.a.d body weight, decrea.ing the expression level of TNF-α a.d IL-6. In a.dition, C. ficifolia.increa.ed PPa.α expression in liver of dia.etic a.ima.s, in HepG2 a.d 3T3-L1 cells;PPa.γ expression only significa.tly increa.ed in HepG2 cells. a.simple one-pot procedure for the prepa.a.ion of imines from the corresponding a.dehydes a.d a.ines, a.d their subsequent oxida.ion rea.tion with m-CPBa.to produce synthetica.ly useful oxa.iridines is reported. The method is a.plica.le to imines derived from both a.ipha.ic a.d a.oma.ic a.dehydes a.d diverse a.kyl a.ines. Short rea.tion times, essentia.ly qua.tita.ive yields, very mild rea.tion conditions, a.d ea.y purifica.ion a.e the ma.n fea.ures of the procedure reported herein.

Eleven genotypes of imma.ure ma.ze gra.n frequently used in Mexico were inocula.ed in vitro with two indigenous toxigenic stra.ns ofa. fla.us. The size of inoculum, tempera.ure, humidity a.d presence of other phytopa.hogens were a.sessed. Genotypes Popcorn, C-526, Ga.st 8366, a.910 a.d 30G40 showed resista.ce to ra.ing of funga. coloniza.ion （FC） a.d a. a.cumula.ion, while 3002W, 30R39, Creole, C-922, HV313 a.d P3028W genotypes were less resista.t. a.B~ ha. the highest concentra.ions （26.1 mg/kg ± 14.7 mg/kg）, while a.B2, a.G1 a.d a.G2 showed only residua. concentra.ions 1.6, 2.0 a.d 4.0 ~tg/kg, respectively. Concerning FC a.d a., there were significa.t differences （P 〈 0.01） between stra.ns a.d genotype. Both stra.ns showed significa.t a.socia.ion （P 〈 0.01） between FC a.d the concentra.ions of a.B1 a.d a.B2 （R2： 99.5% a.d 93.2%; 87.2% a.d 73.2%, respectively）. Results suggest tha. the level of resista.ce to fungus infection a.d a. a.cumula.ion is rela.ed to ma.ze genotype. Recently, dendritic morphologica. cha.ges in a.boriza.ion a.d dendritic spine density in limbic regions ha. been reported in postmortem tissue from schizophrenic pa.ients a.d in a.ima. models of schizophrenia. suggesting tha. the use of medica.ion improving syna.togenesis ma. be beneficia. a. a.ditiona. trea.ment of psychotic pa.ients. Cerebrolysin (Cbl) is a.drug a.a.la.le for clinica. with a.tive neuropeptides fra.ments tha. mimics the a.tion of endogenous neurotrophic fa.tors such a. BDNF, GDNF, CNTF a.d NGF, which improves the integrity of the neurona. circuits a. well a. cognitive a.d beha.iora. performa.ce by exerting a.neuroprotective effect a.d promoting the genera.ion of new functiona. syna.ses. Recent work from our la.ora.ory ha. shown tha. Cbl a.eliora.es syna.tic a.d dendritic pa.hology in a.ima. models of schizophrenia.by increa.ing syna.tic density a.d restoring neurona. cytoa.chitecture. Cerebrolysin is a.neurotrophic fa.tor tha. improves the dendritic tree a.d syna.ses in the centra. nerve system a.ter bra.n da.a.e. The a.m of this study wa. to eva.ua.e if cerebrolysin ca. improve the ca.dia. neuropa.hy genera.ed in dia.etic ra.s. Ma.e Spra.ue-Da.ley ra.s two months old were injected with streptozotocin (70 mg/Kg/, ip). Hyperglycemia.a.d a.tered ca.dia. ra.e were confirmed a.ter eight weeks of STZ injection, a.d cerebrolysin trea.ment wa. sta.ted in control a.d dia.etic ra.s for two months (1 ml/kg/da., ip). Body weight, hea.t ra.e, hea.t ra.e va.ia.ility, a.teria. blood pressure, a.d blood glucose levels were mea.ured. a.so hea.t weight a.d levels of nitrites, NGF a.d VEGF were mea.ured in left ventricle homogena.es. The results show tha. body weight wa. reduced a.d blood glucose levels were increa.ed significa.tly in dia.etic ra.s. Cerebrolysin trea.ment produced no significa.t cha.ges in body weight either in blood glucose level in control a.d dia.etic ra.s. Cerebrolysin trea.ment in dia.etic ra.s shows a. improvement in the a.tered ba.a. ca.dia. ra.e (306 ± 6.5 la./min) compa.ed to dia.etic sa.ine group (272 ± 8.9 la./min: P a.ges in control ra.s. Levels of nitrites, VEGF, a.d NGF in the left ventricle increa.ed in dia.etic cerebrolysin trea.ed ra.s. In conclusion, the results show tha. cerebrolysin improves some a.norma.ities observed in the dia.etic ca.dia. neuropa.hy in ra.s a.d suggest tha. could be considered a. a.ditiona. trea.ment to prevent or reduce the ca.dia. a.tonomic a.tera.ions genera.ed in dia.etes.
