For the application of soil moisture and ocean salinity（SMOS） remotely sensed sea surface salinity（SSS） products,SMOS SSS global maps and error characteristics have been investigated based on quality control *** results show that the errors of SMOS SSS products are distributed zonally,i.e.,relatively small in the tropical oceans,but much greater in the southern oceans in the Southern Hemisphere（negative bias） and along the southern,northern and some other oceanic margins（positive or negative bias）.The physical elements responsible for these errors include wind,temperature,and coastal terrain and so *** in the southern oceans are due to the bias in an SSS retrieval algorithm caused by the coexisting high wind speed and low temperature; errors along the oceanic margins are due to the bias in a brightness temperature（TB） reconstruction caused by the high contrast between L-band emissivities from ice or land and from ocean; in addition,some other systematic errors are due to the bias in TB observation caused by a radio frequency interference and a radiometer receivers drift,*** findings will contribute to the scientific correction and appropriate application of the SMOS SSS products.

The thermal conductivity of diamond particles reinforced copper matrix composite as an attractive thermal management material is significantly lowered by the non-wetting *** paper investigates the heat transport behavior between a 200-nm Cu layer and a single-crystalline diamond substrate inserted by a chromium(Cr)interlayer having a series of thicknesses from 150 nm down to 5 *** purpose is to detect the impact of the modifying interlayer thickness on the interfacial thermal conductance(h)between Cu and *** time-domain thermoreflectance measurements suggest that the introduction of Cr interlayer dramatically improves the h between Cu and diamond owing to the enhanced interfacial adhesion and bridged dissimilar phonon states between Cu and *** h value exhibits a decreasing trend as the Cr interlayer becomes thicker because of the increase in thermal resistance of Cr *** high h values are observed for the Cr interlayer thicknesses below 21 nm since phononic transport channel dominates the thermal conduction in the ultrathin Cr *** findings provide a way to tune the thermal conduction across the metal/nonmetal heterogeneous interface,which plays a pivotal role in designing materials and devices for thermal management applications.

Radiotherapy combined with nimotuzumab for elderly esophageal cancer patients:A phaseⅡclinical trial

Objective:To investigate the safety and efficacy of nimotuzumab combined with radiotherapy for elderly patients with non-resectable esophageal carcinoma(EC).Methods:Eligible patients were aged 70 years or older and had treatment-naive,histologically proven inoperable locally advanced *** patients received radiotherapy with a total dose of 50-60 Gy in 25-30 fractions,concurrent with weekly infusion of *** primary end point was the rate of more than grade 3 ***:From June 2011 to July 2016,46 patients with stageⅡ-IV EC with a median age of 76.5 years were *** were 10,28 and 8 patients with stageⅡ,III and IV disease,*** common acute toxicities included esophagitis(grade 1-2,75.4%;grade 3,8.7%),pneumonitis(grade 1,4.3%;grade 2,6.5%;grade3,2.2%),leukopenia(grade 1-2,60.9%;grade 3-4,4.4%),gastrointestinal reaction(grade 1-2,17.3%;grade 3,2.2%),thrombocytopenia(grade 1-2,21.7%;grade 3,2.2%),and radiothermitis(grade 1-2,39.2%).The incidence of grade 3-4 adverse effects was 17.4%.No grade 5 toxicities were *** complete response,partial response,stable disease,and progressive disease were observed in 1(2.2%),31(67.4%),12(26.1%),and 2(4.3%)patients,*** median overall survival(OS)and progression-free survival(PFS)were 17 and 10 months,*** 2-,3-,and 5-year OS and PFS rates were 30.4%,21.7%,19.6%,and 26.1%,19.6%,19.6%,***:Nimotuzumab combined with radiotherapy is a safe and effective therapy for elderly patients who are not surgical *** studies are warranted to confirm its therapeutic effects in elderly EC patients.

Objective： Combined small cell lung cancer （C-SCLC） is an uncommon subgroup of small cell lung cancer （SCLC） and few clinical data can be referred. Our study is to investigate the clinical features and prognostic factors of C-SCLC, as well as the role of multimodality ***： Between January 2004 and December 2012, patients with histologically diagnosed C-SCLC were retrospectively analyzed. The survivals were evaluated with the Kaplan-Meier method. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to evaluate potential prognostic ***： One hundred and fourteen patients were enrolled, with a median age of 59 （range： 20-79） years old. The most common combined component was squamous cell carcinoma （52.6%）. Among these patients, the disease was stage I, II, III and IV in 9.6%, 19.3%, 46.5% and 24.6% of the patients, respectively. Eighty patients （70.2%） received at least two of the three modalities containing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. The median follow-up was 32.5 months. The median time of overall survival （OS） was 26.2 months. On univariate analysis, smoking （P=0.029）, Karnofsky performance score （KPS）〈80 （P=0.000）, advanced TNM stage （P=0.000）, no surgery （P=0.010）, positive resection margin （P=0.000）, positive lymph nodes ≥4 （P=0.000）, positive lymph node ratio 〉10% （P=0.000） and non-multimodality treatment （P=0.004） were associated with poor OS. Multivariate analysis confirmed that smoking, advanced TNM stage, positive resection margin and positive lymph nodes ratio 〉 10% were poor prognostic features. Conclusions： C-SCLC has a relatively early stage and good prognosis, which may due to the underestimated diagnosis in non-surgical patients. Multimodality therapy is recommended, especially for limited disease. Smoking, advanced TNM stage, positive resection margin and positive lymph nodes ratio 〉10% are poor prognostic factors.

To the Editor:Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis(PAP)is a rare disease characterized by abnormal and excessive accumulation of pulmonary surfactant in the alveolar *** of PAP are usually categorized into three etiological forms:congenital,secondary,and idiopathic ***-lung lavage(WLL)has been widely used to treat PAP.^([1])According to the literature,case reports of PAP associated with lung cancer are ***,to our knowledge,few cases of PAP with lung cancer receiving definitive thoracic radiation therapy(TRT)has been ***,we reported a case of PAP associated with limited stage-small cell lung cancer(LSSCLC),which was treated using a combination of chemotherapy and sequential ***,the patient’s clinical and radiographical abnormalities of PAP were completely relieved after TRT.

Dear Editor,Liposarcoma is a common soft tissue malignancy in *** most commonly occurs in the deep soft tis-sue of the extremities and *** intrathoracic liposarcoma is rare,represents 2.7%of all liposarcomas[1].According to the distinct tumor loca-tions,it can be divided into mediastinal,pleural,and pulmonary *** literature has reviewed the clinicopathological or molecular cytogenetic char-acteristics of mediastinal and thoracic liposarcomas[2,3].However,intrathoracic liposarcoma is poorly docu-mented because of its *** surgical resection is thought to be the best treatment for primary intratho-racic liposarcoma,but the impact of radiotherapy and systemic therapy remains ***,we ana-lyzed the clinicopathological data of 31 patients with primary intrathoracic liposarcoma who were treated in the Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sci-ences between October 1970 and July 2015 to explore their clinicopathologic features and treatment outcomes(Additional file 1:Table S1).
