Enhancing sensitivity to ambient refractive index with tunable few-layer graphene/hBN nanoribbons

Refractive index (RI) sensing helps to identify biomolecules and chemicals in the mid-infrared range for drug discovery, bioengineering, and environmental monitoring. In this paper, we numerically demonstrate an electrically tunable RI sensor with ultrahigh sensitivity using a three-layer graphene nanoribbon array separated by hexagonal boron nitride (hBN). Unlike the weak resonance in single-layer graphene nanoribbons, a much stronger plasmon resonance featuring a higher-quality factor can be excited in the graphene/hBN few-layer ribbon array. Simultaneously, the high purity of graphene on hBN results in an outstanding charge mobility above 4 ×10^4 cm^2 · V^-1·s^-1 at 300 K, which allows a larger modulation depth. The interaction between the locally enhanced field around graphene ribbons and its surrounding analyte leads to ultrahigh sensitivity (4.207μm/RIU), with the figure of merit reaching approximately ***, this ultrasensitive detector could selectively work in different wavebands by controlling gate voltages applied to *** merits of ultrahigh sensitivity and electrical tunability are major advances compared to previous RI sensors, paving a way toward ultrasensitive detection using graphene/hBN few-layer devices.

Analysis of EX5del4232ins268 and EX5del955 PAH gene mutations in Ukrainian patients with phenylketonuria

Phenylketonuria(PKU)is an autosomal recessive metabolic disorder caused by deficiency of phenylalanine hydroxylase(PAH).The major molecular defects causing PKU are missense mutations of PAH *** deletions of exon 5(EX5del955 and EX5del4232ins)were first reported by the Czech study and were later found also in the Polish,Slovak,Slovenian and Italian *** observations demonstrate the existence of a common subset of this mutation predominantly among Central European populations of Slavic *** is why we suggest that EX5del1955 and EX5del4232ins268 mutations might be frequent causes of PKU in Ukrainian ***5del955 and EX5del4232ins268 mutations were analyzed in 106 unrelated PKU patients negative for PAH gene mutations on one or both alleles from our previous *** simultaneous detection of EX5del4232ins268 and EX5del955 mutations was performed by PCR amplification of mutant ***5del955 mutation was not detected in the Ukrainian *** relative alleles frequency of EX5del4232ins268 mutation in the Ukrainian PKU population was determined as 1,66%.Our findings can be the one more evidence of Central European Slavic origin of EX5del4232ins268 mutation,suggested *** finding is important for the improvement of DNA diagnosis necessary for the management of PKU patients from Ukraine.

Effect of the overconsolidation ratio of soils in surface settlements due to tunneling

Construction of urban tunnels requires the control of surface subsidence to minimize any disturbance to nearby buildings and services. Past study of surface subsidence has been limited to mainly empirical solutions based on field studies, and very few analytical studies have been carried out. The available analytical solutions are not sufficient to include complex ground conditions; hence, a comprehensive analytical solution coupled with numerical modeling is necessary to model the effect of surface subsidence due to tunneling. This paper presents the results of modeling of surface settlements due to tunneling using the finite element method. The effect of the overconsolidation ratio of soils expressed in terms of the co- efficient of earth pressure at rest （K0） on surface subsidence due to tunneling is investigated. It is demonstrated that surface settlements appear to be sensitive to K0 values, and for geotechnical calculations pertaining to overconsolidated sand and clay soil, K0 values of 0.6 and 0.8, respectively, are proposed.

The influence of different heat treatment strategies on the microstructure and properties of 42SiCr steel was *** compare the benefit of innovative treatment methods with more conventional ones,several strategies based on a new quenching and partitioning (Q-P) process were designed together with several strategies using more traditional quenching and tempering *** combinations of mechanical properties were obtained with ultimate strengths in the range of 1818-2120 MPa and ductility between 10% and 24%.Resulting microstructures were martensitic with 0-12% of retained austenite and they were analyzed by laser scanning confocal microscopy,transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction phase analysis.

Prediction of land subsidence caused by groundwater exploitation in Hanoi, Vietnam, using multifactorial correlation analysis

Multifactorial correlation analysis is a new method used to predict the land subsidence caused by groundwater exploitation This article introduces and applies the method to establish the function of the surface settlement rate （Vs） and the function of the time-dependent surface settlement （St） caused by groundwater exploitation, based on data acquired at three land subsidence monitoring stations in the Hanoi area of Vietnam. Comparison with actual monitoring data indicates that the prediction results are relatively close to the monitoring data. From this, we conclude that multifactorial correlation analysis is a reliable method and can be used to predict future land subsidence caused by groundwater exploitation in Hanoi.

Comparison of the‘Seattle’and‘International’Criteria Electrocardiogram Interpretation in Division II Female Collegiate Athletes:A Preliminary Study

Purpose A 12-lead electrocardiogram(ECG)is a screening tool to detect abnormalities that may predispose athletes to sud-den cardiac *** standardized criteria have been introduced to better interpret ECG data,however this research has predominantly focused on male *** is important to include female athletes in research to better define ECG character-istics in this *** purpose of this study was to compare the Seattle and International Criteria ECG abnormalities in Division II female collegiate athletes of various *** Fifty-six females(age 20.2±1.4 years;height 1.70±0.7 m;weight 69.5±8.9 kg)completed a resting 12-lead ECG *** data was classified as‘normal’and‘abnormal’according to the parameters of each criterion and abnormal conditions were ***-square analysis was used to assess statistical comparisons between *** There was a significant difference in abnormal classifications as the total number of ECGs identified as abnormal using the Seattle Criteria decreased from 12(21.4%)to 2(3.6%)when using the International Criteria(P<0.05).African American athletes had a higher number of abnormal ECG’s compared to White and Latina athletes using the Seattle Criteria(P=0.03).Conclusions The International Criteria significantly reduces the total number of abnormal ECG readings in female collegiate athletes compared to the Seattle Criteria and did not overly identify African American athletes with *** research is necessary to expand on this study and clearly define criteria for female athletes of various ethnicities.

Potential neurophysiological and biomechanical risk factors for sport-related back problems:A scoping review

This scoping review aims(1)to map the literature dealing with neurophysiological and biomechanical aspects of back problems in athletes in order to identify valid risk-factors for their prevention,plus(2)to identify gaps in the existing research and propose suggestions for future studies.A literature search conducted with Scopus,Web of Science,MEDLINE and Cochrane Library was completed by Elsevier,SpringerLink and Google *** main neurophysiological risk factors identified leading to back problems in athletes are neuromuscular imbalance,increased muscle fatigability,muscle dysfunction and impaired motor control,whilst biomechanical risk factors include maladaptive spinal,spinopelvic and lower limb kinematics,side-to-side imbalances in axial strength and hip rotation range of motion,spinal overloading and deficits in movement ***,most studies focused on back pain in the lumbar region,whereas less attention has been paid to thoracic and cervical spine *** range of sports where this topic has been studied is relatively *** is a lack of research in sports in which the core muscles are highly involved in specific movements such as lifting weights or trunk rotations.A limited number of studies include female athletes and master athletes of both *** addition to chronic back pain patients,it is equally important to conduct research on healthy athletes with a predisposition to spine *** should focus their empirical work on identifying modifiable risk factors,predict which athletes are at risk for back problems,and develop personalized sport-specific assessment tools and targeted prevention strategies for them.
