Laparoscopic resection of primary retroperitoneal schwannoma:A case report

BACKGROUND Schwannomas are rare,often benign,tumors deriving from Schwann cells that have low incidence in the retroperitoneal region(0.5%to 5%).Their diagnosis is hardly confirmed at early stage due to lack of specific features in signs,symptoms and imaging ***,it is necessary performing guided punch biopsy in order to identify *** removal is the treatment of choice due to its low sensitivity to radiation and *** SUMMARY Forty-seven years old female patient who was hospitalized for elective orthopedic procedure,without complications,evolved with severe pain in the lower limbs,thigh and gluteal region associated with neurogenic *** pain required magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)of the lumbar spine,which showed epidural collection with dural compression and massive heterogeneous perihepatic nodular *** surgical team opted for draining the collection,as well as requested an MRI of the abdomen and pelvis,whose analysis showed expansive lesion in the retroperitoneum,in close contact with the inferior vena cava and with the right renal vein.A guided puncture was performed for diagnostic clarification,which showed immunohistochemical profile compatible with *** selected treatment comprised retroperitoneum tumor resection in association with laparoscopic *** patient was discharged and remained stable after 4-mo follow-up;she remains under followup to check the need of cancer *** Schwannoma features requires surgical treatment based on laparoscopic resection,which often presents low relapse rates and optimistic prognosis.

Hydrogen-based direct reduction of industrial iron ore pellets:Statistically designed experiments and computational simulation

As part of efforts to reduce anthropogenic CO_(2) emissions by the steelmaking industry,this study investigated the direct reduction of industrially produced hematite pellets with H_(2) using the Doehlert experimental design to evaluate the effect of pellet diameter(10.5-16.5 mm),porosity(0.36-0.44),and temperature(600-1200℃).A strong interactive effect between temperature and pellet size was observed,indicating that these variables cannot be considered *** increase in temperature and decrease in pellet size considerably favor the reduction rate,while porosity did not show a relevant *** change in pellet size during the reduction was negligible,except at elevated temperatures due to crack formation.A considerable decrease in mechanical strength at high temperatures suggests a maximum process operating temperature of 900℃.Good predictive capacity was achieved using the modified grain model to simulate the three consecutive non-catalytic gas-solid reactions,considering different pellet sizes and porosities,changes during the reaction from 800 to 900℃.However,for other temperatures,different mechanisms of structural modifications must be considered in the *** results represent significant contributions to the development of ore pellets for CO_(2)-free steelmaking technology.

Nonmonotone adaptive trust region method based on simple conic model for unconstrained optimization

We propose a nonmonotone adaptive trust region method based on simple conic model for unconstrained optimization. Unlike traditional trust region methods, the subproblem in our method is a simple conic model, where the Hessian of the objective function is approximated by a scalar matrix. The trust region radius is adjusted with a new self-adaptive adjustment strategy which makes use of the information of the previous iteration and current iteration. The new method needs less memory and computational efforts. The global convergence and Q-superlinear convergence of the algorithm are established under the mild conditions. Numerical results on a series of standard test problems are reported to show that the new method is effective and attractive for large scale unconstrained optimization problems.

The present study aimed to determine whether natural dehydrated feed (DNF) can replace dry extruded feed while preserving the required daily intake, nutrient digestibility and benefits for immunity and antioxidant response in cats. The animals were divided into two groups of seven animals each. One group received DNF, and the other consumed commercial extruded dry feed (DCF). The experiment lasted 45 days and we measured daily consumption and collected blood and feces samples. The animals in the DNF group showed greater digestibility of fiber and mineral matter than DCF. Cats in the DNF group had a higher volume of feces. DNF cats had lower leukocyte and granulocyte counts and cholesterol levels. Serum enzymatic antioxidant responses and non-enzymatic were higher in DNF cats. Cats in the DNF group showed lower serum acute phase proteins in addition to a tendency toward a higher concentration of transferrin than in the DCF group. Fecal Escherichia coli and total coliform counts of cats fed DNF were higher than DCF. We conclude that the daily consumption of cats is adequate. This feed had greater digestibility of fiber and mineral matter, in addition to an improvement in antioxidant and immunological responses.

Rapid acupuncture for musculoskeletal pain in the emergency room of the Hospital Servidor Publico Estadual, Brazil: A quasi-experimental study

Objective:To compare differences in self-reported musculoskeletal pain before and after receiving rapid acupuncture for pain at an outpatient emergency ***:Exactly 102 patients presenting to the emergency room of the Hospital Servidor Publico Estadual in Sao Paulo,Brazil,participated in this before-and-after *** participants had musculoskeletal pain and were treated with the technique proposed by Marques *** emergency acupuncture involved inserting a needle at a point defined by traditional Chinese medicine and applying intense stimulation for 10 s;no more than two points were used on any individual *** was measured using a numerical visual scale before and immediately after the ***:Participants in this study were mostly women(78%),had a college degree(47%)and were below the age of 60(56%).The most common region of pain was the lower back(31%),and the most common type of pain was acute and exacerbated chronic *** meridians most commonly involved were the eight extra meridians(40%),and the points most often used for treatment were Houxi(SI3),Shenmai(BL62)and Zulinqi(GB41).Almost all participants reported a decrease in pain intensity,independent of sex,education level,pain site and pain type(acute/chronic;P<0.05).At the end of the session,only4%of the participants reported a desire for allopathic ***:This emergency acupuncture technique for analgesia appears to reduce musculoskeletal *** registration:Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials(http://***/)with ***-8 dmfjf.
