Changing pattern of indications of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in children and adolescents:a twelve-year experience

Background:There are few data regarding endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)usefulness in children and *** reviewed the long-term experience with diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP in a tertiary single center in Southern ***:A retrospective chart review of patients aged 0-18 years who had undergone ERCPs from January 2000 to June 2012 was *** on demographics,indications,diagnosis,treatments,and complications were ***:Seventy-five ERCPs were performed in 60 *** median age of the patients at the procedure was 13.9 years(range:1.2-17.9).Of the 60 patients,47(78.3%)were *** all ERCPs,48(64.0%)were performed in patients above 10 years and 35(72.9%)of them were in *** was indicated for patients with bile duct obstruction(49.3%),sclerosing cholangitis(18.7%),post-surgery complication(12%),biliary stent(10.7%),choledochal cyst(5.3%),and pancreatitis(4%).The complication rate of ERCP was 9.7%involving mild bleeding,pancreatitis and *** who had therapeutic procedures were older(13.7±3.9 vs.9.9±4.9 years;P=0.001)and had more extrahepatic biliary abnormalities(82%vs.50%;P=0.015)than those who had diagnostic ERCPs.A marked change in the indications of ERCPs was found,i.e.,from 2001 to 2004,indications were more diagnostic and from 2005 therapeutic procedures were ***:Diagnostic ERCPs are being replaced by magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography and also by endoscopic *** these procedures are complementary and ERCP still has a role for therapeutic purposes.

Identifying representative days of solar irradiance and wind speed in Brazil using machine learning techniques

The investment levels in electricity production capacity from variable Renewable Energy Sources have substantially grown in Brazil over the last decades,following the worldwide-seeking-goal of a carbon-neutral economy and the country’s incentives in diversifying its generation *** a long-term perspective,the current non-storable capability of renewable energy sources requires an adequate uncertainty characterization over the *** this context,the main objective of this work is to provide a thorough descriptive analytics of the time-linked hourly-based daily dynamics of wind speed and solar irradiance in the main resourceful regions of *** on unsupervised machine Learning methods,we focus on identifying similar days over the years,Representative Days,that can depict the fundamental underlying behaviour of each *** analysis is based on a historical dataset of different sites with the highest potential and installed capacity of each source spread over the country:three in the Northeast and one in the South Regions,for wind speed;and three in the Northeast and one in the Southeast Regions,for solar *** use two Partitioning methods(𝐾-means and𝐾-medoids),the Hierarchical Ward’s method,and a model-Based method(Self-Organizing maps).We identified that wind speed and solar irradiance can be effectively represented,respectively,by only two representative days,and two or three days,depending on the region and method(segments data with respect to the intensity of each source).Analysis with higher Representative Days highlighted important hidden patterns such as different wind speed modulations and solar irradiance peak-hours along the days.

The key role of manganese(mn)in the biogeochemical cycle of trace elements has been of great interest in recent ***,the redox properties of aqueous mn(Ⅲ)have been studied to a lesser ***(Ⅲ)is not stable in solution by ***,when complexed with inorganic ligands,it has shown potential to oxidize and reduce trace *** the present study,we are exploring the redox characteristics of the complex mn(Ⅲ)-Pyrophosphate(mn(Ⅲ)-PP).This complex is stable over a wide range of pH values but requires the ratio of mn:PP to be less than 1:***,the redox reaction of chromium(Cr(Ⅲ))and mn(Ⅲ)-PP is investigated.A solid,Cr(OH)_(3),is used as a source of Cr(Ⅲ).For this reaction,environmentally relevant parameters,such as pH,ionic strength,ratio mn(Ⅲ)/Cr(Ⅲ),and excess of ligand,were *** showed that mn(Ⅲ)can effectively oxidize Cr(Ⅲ)to Cr(Ⅵ),taking about 15 days for the reaction to *** reaction occurs only under acidic conditions(pH4),and with a low excess of *** initial mn(Ⅲ)concentration decreases as the Cr(Ⅵ)is produced,and Cr(Ⅵ)can be adsorbed back into the Cr(OH)_(3)surface,limiting the mobility of this toxic *** this adsorption,significant amounts of Cr(VI)are release in the aqueous *** study shows the importance of a mobile species(mn-PP complex)in the oxidation of Cr(Ⅲ)and the release of Cr(Ⅵ)to the environment.

Temperature-dependent thermal conductivity and fuel performance of UN-UO_(2) and UN-X-UO_(2)(X=mo,W)composite nuclear fuels by finite element modeling

The temperature-dependent effective thermal conductivity of UN-X-UO_(2)(X=mo,W)nuclear fuel composite was *** the experimental design,the thermal conductivity was calculated using Finite Element modeling(FEm),and compared with analytical models for 10%,30%,50%,and 70%(in mass)uncoated/coated UN microspheres in a UO2 *** FEm results show an increase in the fuel thermal conductivity as the mass fraction of the UN microspheres increases from 1.2 to 4.6 times the UO2 reference at 2,000 *** results from analytical models agree with the thermal conductivity estimated by *** results also show that mo and W coatings have similar thermal behaviors,and the coating thickness influences the thermal conductivity of the *** higher weight fractions,the thermal conductivity of the fuel composite at room temperature is substantially influenced by the high thermal conductivity coatings approaching that of ***,the thermal conductivity from FEm was used in the fuel thermal performance evaluation during LWR normal operation to calculate the maximum centerline *** results show a significant decrease in the fuel maximum centerline temperature ranging from−94 K for 10% UN to−414 K for 70%(in mass)UN compared to UO2 under the same operating conditions.

Knowledge regarding the influence of individual traits on interaction patterns in nature can help understand the topological role of individuals within a network of intrapopulation *** tested hypotheses on the relationships between individuals'positions within networks(specialization and centrality)of 4 populations of the mouse opossum Gracilinanus agilis and their traits(i.e.,body length,body condition,tail length relative to body length,sex,reproductive condition,and botfly parasitism)and also seasonal effects in the Brazilian *** with lower body length,better body condition,and relatively shorter tail were more specialized(i.e.,less connected within the network).Individuals were also more specialized and less connected during the warm-wet *** relationship between individuals'position in the network and body traits,however,was independent of *** propose that specialization may arise not only as a result of preferred feed-ing strategies by more capable individuals(i.e.,those with better body condition and potentially prone to defend and access high-quality food resources)but alsobecause of morphological ***/younger individuals(consequently with less experience in foraging)and short-tailed individuals(less skilled to explore the vertical strata of the vegetation)would feed only on a subset of the available food resources and consequently become more ***,individuals are more specialized during the warm-wet season because of high competition(population-dense period)and higher ecological opportunities(resource-rich period).Therefore,our study reveals the relevance of individual traits inshaping interactionpatternsandspecialization inpopulations.

Living photovoltaics are microbial electrochemical devices that use whole cell–electrode interactions to convert solar energy to *** bottleneck in these technologies is the limited electron transfer between the microbe and the electrode *** study focuses on enhancing this transfer by engineering a polydopamine(PDA)coating on the outer membrane of the photosynthetic microbe Synechocystis *** coating provides a conductive nanoparticle shell to increase electrode adhesion and improve microbial charge extraction.A combination of scanning electron microscopy(SEm),transmission electron microscopy(TEm),UV–Vis absorption,and Raman spectroscopy measurements were used to characterize the nanoparticle shell under various synthesis *** cell viability and activity were further assessed through oxygen evolution,growth curve,and confocal fluorescence microscopy *** results show sustained cell growth and detectable PDA surface coverage under slightly alkaline conditions(pH 7.5)and at low initial dopamine(DA)concentrations(1 mm).The exoelectrogenicity of the cells prepared under these conditions was also characterized through cyclic voltammetry(CV)and chronoamperometry(CA).The measurements show a three-fold enhancement in the photocurrent at an applied bias of 0.3 V(***/AgCl[3 m KCl])compared to non-coated *** study thus lays the framework for engineering the next generation of living photovoltaics with improved performances using biosynthetic electrodes.

Determining the effective elastic thickness through cross-correlation between isostatic disturbances

The elastic thickness parameter was estimated using the mobile correlation technique between the observed isostatic disturbance and the gravity disturbance calculated through direct gravimetric modeling. We computed the vertical flexure value of the crust for a specific elastic thickness using a given topographic dataset. The gravity disturbance due to the topography was determined after the calculation. A grid of values for the elastic thickness parameter was generated. Then, a moving correlation was performed between the observed gravity data(representing actual surface data) and the calculated data from the forward modeling. The optimum elastic thickness of the particular point corresponded to the highest correlation coefficient. The methodology was tested on synthetic data and showed that the synthetic depth closely matched the original depth, including the elastic thickness value. To validate the results, the described procedure was applied to a real dataset from the Barreirinhas Basin, situated in the northeastern region of Brazil. The results show that the obtained crustal depth is highly correlated with the depth from known models. Additionally, we noted that the elastic thickness behaves as expected, decreasing from the continent towards the ocean. Based on the results, this method has the potential to be employed as a direct estimate of crustal depth and elastic thickness for any region.

Ephedroid macrofossils have been widely documented in Cretaceous deposits,including numerous from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation of NE ***,few ephedroid macrofossils have been reported from South ***,we describe a new plant of the family Ephedraceae,Arlenea delicata *** ***.,from the Lower Cretaceous Crato Formation of the Araripe Basin,Northeast Brazil,based on the vegetative and reproductive *** has the typical morphological characteristics of ephedroid plants,including fertile reproductive branches,opposite phyllotaxy,terminal female cones,a sympodial branching system,longitudinally striated internodes,and swollen *** new finding is unusual in having inner chlamydosperms subtended by two pairs of bracts,reproductive units connected to branches through swollen receptacles and a smooth seed *** new ephedroid taxon from the Crato Formation increases our understanding of plant diversity of this group during the Early ***,the general morphology(fleshy bracts and enlarged receptacles)of this new fossil discovery indicates that seeds of this plant may have been dispersed by animals such as pterosaurs(mainly the Tapejaridae)and birds(Enantiornithes and Ornituromorpha).If true,this would explain the cosmopolitan distribution of Ephedraceae in the Lower Cretaceous.
