Anterior and posterior capsule densitometry levels after femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery

AIM： To analyze and compare five different variables over one year follow-up（1 wk, 1, 3, 6 and 12 mo）： anterior capsule（AC）, and posterior capsule（PC） area densitometry values, AC and PC linear densitometry values, and AC opening area reduction ratio after femtosecond laserassisted cataract surgery. METHODS： This was a prospective comparative study. Seventy-one patients underwent femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery on single eye between June 2014 and December 2015. A 5.0 mm diameter laser assisted anterior capsulotomy was performed on all eyes. In every postsurgery evaluation, AC opacificaction（ACO） and PC opacification（PCO） density levels were provided by Oculus Pentacam·HR using area and linear densitometry methods. Digital images were captured with a slit-lamp Topcon photographic camera and IMAGEnet· 5 software. The AC opening area on the digital images was measured using the Sketchandcalc area calculator and converted to reduction ratio ***： Using Pearson correlation coefficient（PCC）, we found no correlation（r=-0.091, P=0.46） in the twelfth month assessment between the evolution of ACO area densitometry values and PCO area densitometry values considered as independent variables. We found no correlation, using PCC（r=-0.096, P=0.43） between the evolution of ACO linear densitometry values and PCO linear densitometry values, in the twelfth month visit, working both as independent variables. AC linear densitometry levels and AC area densitometry levels continued to grow strongly from sixth to twelfth months. Analysis of the values of AC opening area reduction ratio（1 wk, 1, 3, 6, 12 mo） revealed statistically significant differences between the values of successive examinations but the magnitude of the change decreased. Growing evidence suggests that breast cancer cell plasticity arises due to a partial reactivation of epithelialmesenchymal transition(EMT) programs in order to give cells pluripotency, leading to a stemness-like phenotype. A complete EMT would be a dead end program that would render cells unable to fully metastasize to distant organs. Evoking the EMT-mesenchymal-toepithelial transition(MET) cascade promotes successful colonization of distal target tissues. It is unlikely that direct reprogramming or trans-differentiation without passing through a pluripotent stage would be thepreferred mechanism during tumor progression. This review focuses on key EMT transcriptional regulators, EMT-transcription factors involved in EMT(TFs) and the mi RNA pathway, which are deregulated in breast cancer, and discusses their implications in cancer cell plasticity. Cross-regulation between EMT-TFs and mi RNAs, where mi RNAs act as co-repressors or co-activators, appears to be a pivotal mechanism for breast cancer cells to acquire a stem cell-like state, which is implicated both in breast metastases and tumor recurrence. As a master regulator of mi RNA biogenesis, the ribonuclease type Ⅲ endonuclease Dicer plays a central role in EMTTFs/mi RNAs regulating networks. All these EMT-MET key regulators represent valuable new prognostic and predictive markers for breast cancer as well as promising new targets for drug-resistant breast cancers.

Comparative analysis of cast-in-place post-tensioned and steel-concrete composite bridge bent caps

The complexity of the IH-635 Managed Lanes Project, located in Dallas County, Texas, posed several technical and constructive challenges, leading to the adoption of solutions different from the traditional. Two alternative solutions for the pier cap on one of the bridge crossings over IH-35E in the IH-635 project were analyzed in this case study, a cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete cap and an innovative prefabricated steel-concrete com- posite cap. The approach was to use an estimation of direct costs for material and labor and consideration of con- struction time schedules. A supplementary numerical modeling confirmed that both alternatives behave elasti- cally under imposed loads. The direct cost of material and labor for the two alternatives were close. However, the composite alternative required 13 days less construction time, resulting in substantial cost savings from traffic closing in the very busy traffic corridor. Traffic closing costs were substantially higher than the direct costs, especially for the post-tensioned cap. The quantification of the benefits allows more confidence in the utilization of the composites caps, leading to faster completion of bridge projects and substantial economic savings.

Sexual dimorphism in immune response： Testing the hypothesis in an insect species with two male morphs

It has been proposed that given that males should invest in sexual traits at the expense of their investment in immune response, females are better immunocompetent than males. Typically, this idea has been tested in monomorphic species, but rarely has been evaluated in polymorphic male species. We used Paraphlebia zoe, a damselfly with two male morphs： the black-winged morph （Black-W） develop black spots as sexual traits and the hyaline-winged morph （Hyaline-W） resembles a female in size and wings color. We predicted that Black-W should have a lower immune response than Hyaline-W, but that the latter males should not differ from females in this respect. Nitric oxide （NO） and phenoloxidase （PO） production, as well as hemolymph protein content, were used as immune markers. Body size （wing length） was used as an indicator of the male condition. The results show that, as we predicted, females and Hyaline-W had higher values of NO than Black-W, corresponding to differences in size. However, the opposite was found in relation to PO production. Females had the highest levels of hemolymph protein content, whereas no differences were found between Black-W and Hyaline-W. These results partially support the sexual selection hypothesis and are discussed in the context of the life history of this species. Black-W, Hyaline-W, and females could express the immune markers that are prioritized by their particular condition, and probably neither of them could express all immune markers in an elevated manner, as this would result in an excessive accumulation of free radicals.

Assisted migration has been proposed as a strategy for adaptive management of forest species in response to expected effects of climate change,but it is controversial for several *** dry forests are among the most threatened ecosystems in the *** Mexico,historically,land-use change and deforestation have been decreasing forest cover,and climate change is shifting the potential distribution of different forest types,exacerbating the risk of local *** altitudinal migration could be a feasible strategy for reducing local extinctions in response to climate change and lack of landscape *** objective was to evaluate survival and growth of Albizia plurijuga and Ceiba aesculifolia,two tropical deciduous forests species in *** transplanted 4-month-old seedlings to experimental raised beds at three altitudes(2100,2400 and 2700 m a.s.l.),exceeding their upper regional limit of distribution(2000 m a.s.l.).We also tested seed germination at each *** monitored the experiment for 10 *** both species,as altitude increased and cold weather was more prevalent,plant performance *** species,differences in individual growth were significant among *** survival was 18.5%for *** and 24.5%for *** species had higher survival and better growth at lower altitude,and no seedling emergence at any *** conclude that assisted migration can be implemented for each species by an upward attitudinal shift within,and not exceeding,400 m beyond their present upper altitudinal limit of *** results indicate that for many species that show altitudinal gradients at regional scales,unless current climate conditions change,the potential to establish outside their range is minimal.

Diabetic ketoacidosis remains one of the most serious complications of diabetes mellitus. Among its precipitating factors is myocardial ischemia, responsible for 1% of the cases of diabetic *** Diabetic ketoacidosis both with and without hyperkalemia has been reported to mimic a myocardial infarction pattem on ECG with ST segment elevation, described as pseudoinfarction pattern. Thus, it is important to raise awareness among physicians, as subjecting patients to invasive medical management can be avoided. We present a case of a 47-year-old female with diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperkalemia with initial ECG findings of ST segment elevation, but an urgent left heart catheterization revealed non-obstructive coronary disease.

A 71yearold well controlled hypertensive female presented on day 4 of acute COVID19 illness with atypical chest pain and worsening exertional *** examination,heart rate was 110 beats/min,blood pressure was 125/82 mmHg and there were decreased heart sounds with visible jugular venous *** was not in respiratory distress at rest and was not requiring supplemental *** radiography showed bilateral diffuse opacities(Figure 1).transthoracic echocardiography(TTE)confirmed a moderate pericardial effusion with right ventricular systolic compression,paradoxical right ventricular septal motion,enddiastolic right atrial collapse,and a plethoric inferior vena cava(IVC)with no respiratory *** ejection fraction(EF)was 55%.Initial workup revealed mildly elevated troponin T levels of 0.14 ng/mL,NTPro BNP of 2500 pg/mL.
