End-Triassic nonmarine biotic events

The Late Triassic was a prolonged interval of elevated extinction rates and low origination rates that manifested themselves in a series of extinctions during Carnian, Norian and Rhaetian time. Most of these extinctions took place in the marine realm, particularly affecting radiolarians, conodonts, bivalves, ammonoids and reef-building organisms. On land, the case for a Late Triassic mass extinction is much more tenuous and has largely focused on tetrapod vertebrates（amphibians and reptiles）, though some workers advocate a sudden endTriassic（TJB） extinction of land plants. Nevertheless, an extensive literature does not identify a major extinction of land plants at the TJB, and a comprehensive review of palynological records concluded that TJB vegetation changes were non-uniform（different changes in different places）, not synchronous and not indicative of a mass extinction of land plants. Claims of a substantial perturbation of plant ecology and diversity at the TJB in East Greenland are indicative of a local change in the paleoflora largely driven by lithofacies changes resulting in changing taphonomic filters. Plant extinctions at the TJB were palaeogeographically localized events, not global in extent. With new and more detailed stratigraphic data, the perceived TJB tetrapod extinction is mostly an artifact of coarse temporal resolution, the compiled correlation effect. The amphibian, archosaur and synapsid extinctions of the Late Triassic are not concentrated at the TJB, but instead occur stepwise, beginning in the Norian and extending into the Hettangian. There was a disruption of the terrestrial ecosystem across the TJB, but it was more modest than generally claimed. The ecological severity of the end-Triassic nonmarine biotic events are relatively low on the global scale. Chloroplasts and mitochondria are both thought to have arisen through primary endosymbiosis (Kutschera and Niklas, 2005). As each organelle evolved, most of its genome was transferred to the host nucleus resulting in the vast majority of its proteome being nuclear encoded and synthesized on cytosolic ribosomes (Shi and Theg, 2013).

Molecular mechanisms underlying phosphate sensing, signaling, and adaptation in plants

As an essential plant macronutrient, the low availability of phosphorus （P） in most soils imposes serious limitation on crop production. Plants have evolved complex responsive and adaptive mechanisms for acquisition, remobilization and recycling of phosphate （Pi） to maintain P homeostasis. Spatio-temporal molecular, physiological, and biochemical Pi deficiency responses developed by plants are the consequence of local and systemic sensing and signaling pathways. Pi deficiency is sensed locally by the root system where hormones serve as important signaling components in terms of developmental reprogramming, leading to changes in root system architecture. Root-to-shoot and shoot-to-root signals, delivered through the xylem and phloem, respectively, involving Pi itself, hormones, miRNAs, mRNAs, and sucrose, serve to coordinate Pi deficiency responses at the whole-plant level. A combination of chromatin remodeling, transcriptional and posttranslational events contribute to globally regulating a wide range of Pi deficiency responses. In this review, recent advances are evaluated in terms of progress toward developing a comprehen- sive understanding of the molecular events underlying control over P homeostasis. Application of this knowledge, in terms of developing crop plants having enhanced attributes for P use efficiency, is discussed from the perspective of agricultural sustainability in the face of diminishing global P supplies.

Systemic Risks: A Homomorphic Approach on the Basis of Complexity Science

Although the notion of systemic risk gained prominence with respect to financial systems, it is a generic term that refers to risks of increasing importance in many domains—risks that cannot be tackled by conventional techniques of risk management and governance. We build on a domain-overarching definition of systemic risks by highlighting crucial properties that distinguish them from conventional risks and plain disasters. References to typical examples from various domains are included. Common features of systemic risks in different domains—such as the role of agents and emergence phenomena, tipping and cascading, parameters indicating instability, and historicity—turn out to be more than noncommittal empirical observations. Rather these features can be related to fundamental theory for relatively simple and well-understood systems in physics and chemistry. A crucial mechanism is the breakdown of macroscopic patterns of whole systems due to feedback reinforcing actions of agents on the microlevel, where the reinforcement is triggered by boundary conditions moving beyond critical tipping *** the whole article, emphasis is placed on the role of complexity science as a basis for unifying the phenomena of systemic risks in widely different domains.

Concealed fault analysis based on the CT projection matrix

This paper proposes the concept of projection curves based on the theory of CT image reconstruction to probe the internal structure of the working panel prior to formal mining of the working *** well as reducing costs,this method provides safe and efficient excavation of the working *** to the results of the numerical model and the actual working panel,the new method has been proven to be accurate in detecting the location of the fault that extends into the *** faults of the internal working panel,as well as the start and end points of the fault,can be detected by this *** practice has proven that the method is highly reliable,has a highly decisive impact on faults for coal mining,and can be used to guide the safe mining of the working panel.

This study investigated the effects of yerba mate consumption, a South American beverage, on cardiac remodeling in rats. For this purpose, 24 male Wistar rats were divided into Control Group (CG) which received filtered water and a standard diet, and Yerba Mate Group (YM), 6 g of Ilex paraguariensis in 100 ml water and the same diet, for 30 days. The YM group showed a reduction in final body weight and food consumption without altering weight gain. Regarding cardiac remodeling, the YM group exhibited a decrease in the right ventricle weight/final body weight ratio, suggesting cardiac atrophy, without affecting the atria and left ventricle. There was no change in cardiomyocyte area or nuclear fractal dimension in both groups. However, animals that consumed yerba mate showed increased collagen deposition and a smaller fractal dimension in the left ventricle. The consumption of yerba mate at room temperature for 30 days induced changes in cardiac remodeling, as evidenced by increased collagen deposition and alterations in fractal dimension in the left ventricle.

To the Editor,Sarcoidosis is a disease known for over a century and remains enigmatic in etiology and pathophysiology.1 While the pulmonary manifestation prevails in more than 90%of cases,sarcoidosis can affect any ***,it targets the eyes,skin,lymph nodes,and,in rare instances,the liver and spleen.2 The development of the disease is significantly influenced by genetic and environmental factors,as well as gene variations on chromosome ***,first-degree relatives of patients have a heightened risk factor of *** adverse prognostic factors involve being of Black race,female gender,and having a lower *** increased incidence of sarcoidosis among firefighters who responded to the 9/11 disaster highlighted environmental triggers,including agricultural employment,metalworking,firefighting,exposure to inorganic and silica dust,and handling building supplies.1 Clinical symptoms can vary widely depending on the affected *** often relies on characteristic chest radiography findings,but approximately 10%of patients show noncaseating granulomas on biopsy without pulmonary abnormalities.2 Herein,we present a unique case of multiorgan sarcoidosis,where the sole manifestations were severe thrombocytopenia,weight loss,and a history of cerebral vascular events.

Few-shot learning for biotic stress classification of coffee leaves

In the last few years,deep neural networks have achieved promising results in several ***,one of the main limitations of these methods is the need for large-scale datasets to properly ***-shot learning methods emerged as an attempt to solve this *** the few-shot learning methods,there is a class of methods known as embedding learning or metric *** methods tackle the classification problem by learning to compare,needing fewer training *** of the main problems in plant diseases and pests recognition is the lack of large public datasets *** to this difficulty,the field emerges as an intriguing application to evaluate the few-shot learning *** field is also relevant due to the social and economic importance of agriculture in several *** this work,datasets consisting of biotic stresses in coffee leaves are used as a case study to evaluate the performance of few-shot learning in classification and severity estimation *** achieved competitive results compared with the ones reported in the literature in the classification task,with accuracy values close to 96%.Furthermore,we achieved superior results in the severity estimation task,obtaining 6.74%greater accuracy than the baseline.
