Improvement of Surface Mechanical and Tribological Characteristics of L-PBF Processed Commercially Pure Titanium through Ultrasonic Impact Treatment

Multi-pass ultrasonic impact treatment(UIT)was applied to modify the microstructure and improve the mechanical and tribological characteristics at the near-surface region of commercially pure Ti(CP-Ti)specimens produced by the laser powder bed fusion(L-PBF)*** considerably refined the L-PBF process-related acicular martensites(α′-M)and produced a well-homogenized and dense surface microstructure,where the porosity content of 1-,3-,and 5-pass UITed samples was reduced by 43,60,and 67%,*** UITed samples showed an enhancement in their near-surface mechanical properties up to a depth of about 300μ*** nanoindentation results for the 3-pass UITed sample revealed an increase of about 53,45,and 220%in its nanohardness,H/E_(r),and H_(3)/E_(r)^(2)indices,*** stylus profilometry results showed that performing the UIT removed the L-PBF-related features/defects and offered a smooth *** roughness average(R_(a))and the skewness(R_(sk))of the 3-pass UITed sample were found to be lower than those of the L-PBFed sample by 95 and 223%,*** the UIT also enhanced the material ratio,where the maximum load-bearing capacity(~100%)in as-L-PBFed(as-built)and 3-pass UITed samples was obtained at 60-and 10-µm depths,*** tribological investigations showed that applying the UIT resulted in a significant reduction of wear rate and average coefficient of friction(COF)of *** instance,under the normal pressures of 0.05 and 0.2 MPa,the wear rate and COF of the 3-pass UITed sample were lower than those of the L-PBFed sample by 65 and 58%,and 20 and 17%,respectively.

The replacement of Li by Na in an analogue battery to the commercial Li-ion one appears a sustainable strategy to overcome the several concerns triggered by the increased demand for the electrochemical energy ***,the apparently simple change of the alkali metal represents a challenging step which requires notable and dedicated ***,we investigate herein the features of a NaFe_(0.6)Mn_(0.4)PO_(4)(NFMP)cathode with triphylite structure achieved from the conversion of a LiFe_(0.6)Mn_(0.4)PO_(4)(LFMP)olivine for application in Na-ion *** work initially characterizes the structure,morphology and performances in sodium cell of NFMP,achieving a maximum capacity exceeding 100 mAh g^(−1)at a temperature of 55℃,adequate rate capability,and suitable retention confirmed by ex-situ ***,the study compares in parallel key parameters of the NFMP and LFMP such as Na^(+)/Li^(+)ions diffusion,interfacial characteristics,and reaction mechanism in Na/Li cells using various electrochemical *** data reveal that relatively limited modifications of NFMP chemistry,structure and morphology compared to LFMP greatly impact the reaction mechanism,kinetics and electrochemical *** changes are ascribed to the different physical and chemical features of the two compounds,the slower mobility of Na^(+)with respect to Li^(+),and a more resistive electrode/electrolyte interphase of sodium compared with ***,the study reveals analogue trends of the charge transfer resistance and the ion diffusion coefficient in NFMP and LFMP during the electrochemical process in ***,the NFMP achieved herein is suggested as a possible candidate for application in a low-cost,efficient,and environmentally friendly Na-ion battery.

Synergistic multi-factor early warning of large-scale landslides is a crucial component of geohazard prevention and mitigation efforts in reservoir *** forecasting and early warning based on surface displacements have been widely ***,the lack of direct subsurface real-time observations limits our ability to predict critical hydrometeorological conditions that trigger landslide *** this paper,we leverage subsurface strain data measured by high-resolution fiber optic sensing nerves that were installed in a giant reservoir landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR)region,China,spanning a whole hydrologic year since February *** spatiotemporal strain profile has preliminarily identified the slip zones and potential drivers,indicating that high-intensity short-duration rainstorms controlled the landslide kinematics from an observation *** the time lag effect,we reexamined and quantified potential controls of accelerated movements using a data-driven approach,which reveals immediate response of landslide deformation to extreme rainfall with a zero-day *** identify critical hydrometeorological rules in accelerated movements,accounting for the dual effect of rainfall and reservoir water level variations,we thus construct a landslide prediction model that relies upon the boosting decision tree(BdT)algorithm using a dataset comprising daily rainfall,rainfall intensity,reservoir water level,water level fluctuations,and slip zone strain time *** results indicate that landslide acceleration is most likely to occur under the conditions of mid-low water levels(i.e.,d large-amount and high-intensity rainfalls(i.e.,daily rainfall>57.9 mm and rainfall intensity>24.4 mm/h).Moreover,this prediction model allows us to update hydrometeorological thresholds by incorporating the latest monitoring *** on the shoulder of this landslide case,our study informs a practical and reliable path

Identifying thermal bridges on building façades has been a great challenge for architects,especially during the conceptual design *** is not only due to the complexity of parameters when calculating thermal bridges,but also lack of feature integration between building energy simulation(BES)tools and the actual building *** example,existing BES tools predominantly calculate thermal bridges only in steady state without considering the temperature dynamic behaviour of building ***,relevant features such as thermal delay,decrement factor,and operative temperature are often neglected,and this can lead to miscalculation of energy *** study then proposes an integrated method to calculate dynamic thermal bridges under transient conditions by incorporating field observations and computational simulations of thermal *** specifically,the proposed method employs several measurement tools such as HOBO data logger to record the actual conditions of indoor and outdoor room temperature and thermal cameras to identify the surface temperature of selected building *** actual datasets are then integrated with the simulation workflow developed in BES *** study ultimately enables architects not only to identify potential thermal bridges on existing building façades but also to support material and geometric exploration in early design phase.
