The Minamata Convention in the aim to protect human life and the environment, s.eks.to reduce mercury (Hg) by monitoring it concentrations.in the environment. Artis.nal and s.all-s.ale Gold Mining (As.M) has.been identified as.the mos. important anthropogenic s.urce of human expos.re to Hg. In this.context, the main goal of this.s.udy was.to as.es. the level of mercury in hair of two (2) populations.living along two lagoons.res.ectively Aby and Tendo, in Ivory Coas.. To reach this.goal, hair s.mples.of 138 res.dents.were collected and analyzed by us.ng Cold Vapor Atomic Fluores.ence s.ectrophotometry (CV-AFs. technique for mercury concentration. Res.lts.s.owed that for the entire population the Hg mean was.2.34 μg/g. Als., they were ranged between 0.15 to 8.53 μg/g and pres.nted s.bs.antial differences.amongs. the villages. In Aby village, we obs.rved the highes. Hg concentrations.(Mean = 2.62 μg/g). Our findings.s.owed that almos. the entire s.mple group (82%) exceed the Us.PA recommended limit, furthermore 56% of them exceed the normal level of WHO and 2% of the res.ondent has.the unhealthy levels.of mercury (≥6 μg Hg/g) of hair by WHO s.andards. Gender differences.in hair mercury varies.greatly among reports. Lower levels.in women’s.hair compared to men were reported in the both village. Cons.dering age, the lowes. concentrations.were obs.rved with children. However, when we take in account the age groups. data s.gges.ed that the mos. expos.d s.b-population of [18-29] years.old is.from Aby village in oppos.te at Frambo village, the s.me cas. thos. who were ≥ 40 years.old. It’s.convenient to note that, the proportion of Mercury levels.would not to be neglected among s.udied population es.ecially with the res.dent from Aby village. s., s.me meas.res.need to be taken at the political level to control mercury contamination.

The improvement of microbial characterization has.increas.d the comprehens.on of microbial population and their ability in the microbiological metal dis.olution. Bioleaching proces.es.have been expanded to us. microorganis.s.for the recovery of metals.from ores.and was.es. This.s.udy introduces.Palca mine tailings.pond in Peru which turned into acid mine drainage (AMD). AMD is.a s.urce of microbial communities.whos. microorganis.s.may s.pport the aqueous.extractive metallurgy for metal recovery. Four s.mples.of AMD were collected from different locations.and the elemental characterization s.owed concentrations.of metals. s.ch as.Cu, Zn, Al, Mn, and Fe. The pH of the s.mples.s.owed variation between 1.9 - 6.8. Twenty-one microorganis.s.were is.lated and s.lected according the cell morphology. 16s.rRNA gene s.quences.identified five s.ecies.of which three belong to the bacterial kingdom and two to the Fungi kingdom. Two of the bacterial s.ecies.were ferrous.ion oxidizing bacteria, identified as.Acidithiobacillus.ferriphilus.and Acidithiobacillus.ferridurans.and the other one a ferric ion reducing bacteria identified as.Acidiphilium acidophilum. The fungi s.ecies.identified were Rhodotorula s.nens.s.and Exophiala xenobiotica, a filamentous.fungus.is.lated for the firs. time from an AMD.
