The present study aims to describe the clinical and paraclinical profile of patients infected by viral hepatitis B and c and follow-up. The clinical and paraclinical data used in this description are from patients infected by viral hepatitis B and c of the HOScO Hepato-Gastroenterological Department from May 15, 2021 to July 23, 2021. The informed consent was provided to each patient included in this study. “Univariate analyses were evaluated using pearson’s chi2 test” using R software version 4.0.2. During the study period, we identified 149 patients with viral hepatitis B and/or c who met our inclusion criteria. The sex ratio was 0.83 at the rate of 68 men for 81 women with the average age at 37.17 years ± 12.21 years. The most represented age group was 30 - 44 years (49.7%). The most incriminated risk factors were medical care by injection (62.58%), excision (31.90%), blood transfusion (4.29%) and scarification (1.23%). HBV infection was the majority with a frequency of 95.97%. The HBV viral load was measured in 91.95% of patients, 77.18% of whom had a detectable DNA viral load ≤ 2000 IU/mL. The clinical and biological course was good in patients after therapeutic initiation. HBV-HcV-HIV co-infection was 0.67%. Abdominal ultrasound was normal in 87.92% of patients. Fibrosis was minimal and moderate in 58.39% and 19.46% of patients. Among patients, 52.35% were on Tenofovir therapy, 2.68% on Sofosbuvir/Velpatasvir, 0.67% on ARVs and 44.29% did not require treatment. Viral hepatitis B and c are common, and both affect sex. Thus, new screening strategies need to be implemented to improve the diagnosis of hepatitis B and c. Effective strategies against viral hepatitis B and c must be developed, subsequently.

More Erratic and More Extreme: Trends in precipitation in the State of São paulo, Brazil

The study assessed changes in rainfall variability and the frequency of extreme events (very wet and very dry) in the state of S?o paulo, Brazil, for a 40-year period that divided into two sub-groups: 1973-1992 (p1) and 1993-2012 (p2). Data of 79 rain gauge stations were selected to represent the different climatic and geomorphological domains of the state. The annual pattern was evaluated through the scale and the shape parameters of the gamma distribution and the 95th and the 5th percentiles thresholds, the latter also employed to evaluate the seasonal spatial patterns (rainy season, Oct.-Mar. and sub-humid to dry season, Apr.-Sep.). Results showed that the average precipitation was similar in p1 and p2, but S?o paulo evolved to a pattern of increased irregularity in the rainfall distribution, with a rise of approximately 10% in the number of extremes between 1973 and 2012, especially in the very dry occurrences, and in the north and west of the state, which are the least rainy regions. Moreover, while 55% of the evaluated rain gauges recorded more extreme wet episodes in p2, 76% registered more dry extreme episodes in the same period. Some very dry or very wet events recorded after the 40-year period evaluated were discussed in terms of the associated weather patterns and their impacts on society and attested to the validity of the results found in the quantitative assessment. The qualitative analysis indicates that if the trends of more irregular distribution of rain and increase in extreme events persist, as pointed out by the gamma and percentile analyses, they would continue to bring serious effects on the natural and social systems in the state, which is the most populous and has the strongest and most diversified economy in Brazil.

Background:Every high-level athlete will eventually see his or her sport career come to an *** former athletes will experience changes in their self-definition and everyday behaviors as they accept a nonathletic way of *** present study aimed to identify discrepancies between actual and former athletes regarding athletic identity,physical activity(pA),and nutrition ***:Actual athletes(AA;n=122),former athletes(FA;n=230),and nonathletes(NA;n=74)were asked to complete an online questionnaire on athletic identity,duration and intensity levels of occupational and leisure time pA,and nutritional ***:FA healthy nutrition score was the lowest of the 3 groups and significantly different from that of *** identity and intense and moderate pA during leisure time consistently decreased(pcross the 3 groups(AA>FA>NA).No significant difference between FA and NA was found regarding either nutritional habits or type of ***:Sport retirement may affect FA quality of nutritional habits that tends to decline below the NA level,as well as the amount of time spent practicing physical activities during leisure *** status does not ensure pA practice during sport postcareer.

Genetic adaptation as a biological buffer against climate change:potential and limitations

Functional explanation of extreme hatching asynchrony: Male Manipulation Hypothesis

Hatching asynchrony in birds is considered an adaptation to facilitate brood reduction because under conditions of food scarcity, the smallest nestling usually dies soon after hatching, thereby minimizing parental effort. However, in species with extreme hatching asynchrony, the last hatchlings paradoxically experience a very low probability of survival and death can take so long that it can hardly be considered an adaptation. Here, we propose and experimentally tested a new adaptive hypothesis explaining the brood reduction paradox, namely the“Male Manipulation Hypothesis”. Our hypothesis suggests that by inducing asynchronous hatching,females increase the feeding requirements of the brood, which will induce males to increase provisioning effort. In addition, females may extend the period of male manipulation by feeding the smallest nestling just enough to sustain life. Our study showed that male common blackbirds(Turdus merula) increased their effort(i.e., number of food items per hour) in experimental asynchronous broods compared to synchronous broods, while females reduced their contribution, as predicted by the hypothesis.

Beneficial Effect of a Thermal Spring Water on the Skin Barrier Recovery after Injury: Evidence for claudin-6 Expression in Human Skin

Aim: To evaluate the possible advantages of dermo-cosmetic products formulated with thermal spring water instead of deionized water. We studied the effect of a dermo-cosmetic product on skin barrier recovery after injury. In one test the product was formulated with de-ionized water and again using the identical product formulated with thermal spring water. Study Design/Methods: Stratum corneum of human skin explants was removed (and not removed for the control) with an ether/acetone mixture. A cosmetic product, either formulated with de-ionized or thermal spring water, was then topically applied on the explants. After a 5-day incubation period, epidermal expression of aquaporine-3, filaggrin, claudin-4 and claudin-6 was studied by using immunohistochemical techniques. Results: The formulation containing de-ionized water seemed to act on the epidermal expression of filaggrin and claudin-4. When thermal spring water was used to make the formulation, we noted that this expression was greatly enhanced. The formulation containing thermal spring water also acted to increase aquaporin-3 and claudin-6 expression. conclusion: The use of thermal spring water in cosmetic formulations would appear to contribute to the cosmetic product’s efficacy. It was also interesting to note that this study revealed claudin-6 expression in human skin for the first time.

We consider the linear and non-linear enhancement of diffusion weighted magnetic resonance images(DW-MRI)to use contextual information in denoising and inferring fiber *** describe the space of DW-MRI images in a moving frame of reference,attached to fiber fragments which allows for convection-diffusion along the *** of this approach,our method is naturally able to handle crossings in *** will perform experiments showing the ability of the enhancement to infer information about crossing structures,even in diffusion tensor images(DTI)which are incapable of representing crossings *** will present a novel non-linear enhancement technique which performs better than linear methods in areas around ventricles,thereby eliminating the need for additional preprocessing steps to segment out the *** pay special attention to the details of implementation of the various numeric schemes.

Glial cells are crucial for maintaining central nervous system(cNS)*** actively participate in immune responses,as well as form functional barriers,such as blood-brain barrier(BBB),which restrict the entry of pathogens and inflammatory mediators into the *** general,viral infections during the gestational period can alter the embryonic and fetal environment,and the related inflammatory response may affect neurodevelopment and lead to behavioral dysfunction during later stage of life,as highlighted by our group for Zika virus *** acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-coV-2)induces a cytokine storm and,during pregnancy,may be related to a more severe form of the coronavirus disease-19(cOVID-19)and also to higher preterm birth ***-coV-2 can also affect the cNS by inducing neurochemical remodeling in neural cells,which can compromise neuronal plasticity and synaptic ***,the impact of SARS-coV-2 infection during pregnancy on postnatal cNS,including brain development during childhood and adulthood,remains *** group has recently highlighted the impact of cOVID-19 on the expression of molecular markers associated with neuropsychiatric disorders,which are strongly related to the inflammatory ***,based on these relationships,we discussed the impact of SARS-coV-2 infection either during pregnancy or in critical periods of neurodevelopment as a risk factor for neurological consequences in the offspring later in life,focusing on the potential role of glial ***,it is important to consider future and long-term public health concerns associated with SARS-coV-2 infection during pregnancy.

In Vitro propagation of Agave guiengola Gentry Using Semisolid Medium and Temporary Immersion Bioreactors

Agave guiengola Gentry is an endemic plant from a very small locality in Oaxaca,*** conservation status is fragile and can rapidly *** of its scarcity,this agave has been used solely for ornamental purposes,but it could have other uses if more plants were *** vitro propagation by enhanced axillary sprouting from stem segments was attained using Murashige and Skoog Basal Medium(MS)as well as basal medium supplemented with cytokinins 6-Benzylaminopurine(BA)or 6-(γ,γ-Dimethylallylamino)purine(2ip).The best treatment for shoot induction in semisolid medium consisted in MS supplemented with 2 mg l^(–1) BA,obtaining a mean of 3.7 shoots per *** interesting responses were observed,such as nodular callus induction using combinations of BA and 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D);root induction without plant Growth Regulators(pGR);and generation of shoot *** clusters constituted an excellent explant for micropropagation in temporary immersion bioreactors,obtaining a propagation rate of 43 shoots per explant with 1 min immersion and 6 h immersion *** new plants rooted and survived the transfer to *** study developed an in vitro propagation scheme to produce individuals that can be used either for reforestation,economical purposes,or to carry out studies in this species to assess its full potential,avoiding exploitation from wild plants.
