Despite the advances in the hematology field, blood transfusion-related iatrogenesis is still a major issue to be considered during such procedures due to blood antigenic incompatibility. This places pluripotent stem cells as a possible ally in the production of more suitable blood products. The present review article aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the state-of-theart concerning the differentiation of both embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells to hematopoietic cell lines. Here, we review the most recently published protocols to achieve the production of blood cells for future application in hemotherapy, cancer therapy and basic research.

Accuracy of gestalt perception of acute chest pain in predicting coronary artery disease

AIM To test accuracy and reproducibility of gestalt to predict obstructive coronary artery disease(CAD)in patients with acute chest *** We studied individuals who were consecutively admitted to our Chest Pain *** admission,investigators performed a standardized interview and recorded14 chest pain *** on these features,a cardiologist who was blind to other clinical characteristics made unstructured judgment of CAD probability,both numerically and *** the reference standard for testing the accuracy of gestalt,angiography was required to rule-in CAD,while either angiography or non-invasive test could be used to *** order to assess reproducibility,a second cardiologist did the same *** In a sample of 330 patients,the prevalence of obstructive CAD was 48%.Gestalt’s numerical probability was associated with CAD,but the area under the curve of0.61(95%CI:0.55-0.67)indicated low level of ***,categorical definition of typical chest pain had a sensitivity of 48%(95%CI:40%-55%)and specificity of 66%(95%CI:59%-73%),yielding a negligible positive likelihood ratio of 1.4(95%CI:0.65-2.0)and negative likelihood ratio of 0.79(95%CI:0.62-1.02).Agreement between the two cardiologists was poor in the numerical classification(95%limits of agreement=-71%to 51%)and categorical definition of typical pain(Kappa=0.29;95%CI:0.21-0.37).CONCLUSION Clinical judgment based on a combination of chest pain features is neither accurate nor reproducible in predicting obstructive CAD in the acute setting.

The presence of trees in the pastures can bring several benefits to both the animals and to the soil under their ***,the objective of this study was to evaluate the levels of organic carbon and nitrogen under the baru canopy in the soil *** adult baru trees were *** samplings were made at the four cardinal points at four different distance points from the projection radius of the crown,being:P1=one-third of the crown projection radius length;P2=two-thirds of the crown projection radius length;P3=extremity of the crown projection radius;P4=one and a half times the maximum crown projection radius *** samples were collected at each point at depths of 0-0.10,0.10-0.20 and 0.20-0.40 *** carbon and nitrogen contents were evaluated and the C/N ratio was *** baru trees influenced the soil organic and carbon contents in the areas under their *** organic carbon and nitrogen contents were higher in relation to the tree trunk(P1)and also in the most superficial layer of the soil(0-0.10 m).The C/N ratio was higher outside the tree canopy and in the deeper layer.

Detection of Partial Discharge in Power Transformers Using Rogowski Coil and Multiresolution analysis

Partial discharge detection in power transformers is discussed using a new approach that exploit the broad band of the Rogowski coils and the potential of two signal processing tools: discrete wavelet transform and empirical mode decomposition. Detecting and analyzing incipient activities of partial discharge can provide useful information to diagnostics and prognostics about transformer insulation. So, partial discharge signals embedded in the electric current at ground conductor are measured using the Rogowski coil. These signals are submitted to noise suppression and the partial discharges waveforms are extracted through different ways: using discrete wavelet transform and using empirical mode decomposition. The comparison of these two methods show that the extraction with discrete wavelet transform results in a faster and simpler algorithm than the empirical mode decomposition. But this one produces more precise waveforms due its adaptive characteristic.

Oxidation of lipids in various products,along with the growth of medically important pathogens,has led to a search for medicinal plants with antioxidant and antimicrobial *** a result,the aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and antibacterial activity of the essential oil of Eucalyptus globulus(EO-Eg).Antioxidant activity was assessed by using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl hydrate(DPPH)assay *** components were identified through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)*** activity and minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)were assessed by using the broth microdilution method with standard multidrug-resistant bacterial *** main EO-Eg compounds identified by GC-MS were isopulegol,citronellal,and citronellol,which are primarily used in the industrial ***-Eg demonstrated excellent antioxidant activity with an effective concentration(EC50)of 4.48μL/mL owing to the presence of phenolic *** antibacterial activity,the EO-Eg displayed a broad antimicrobial spectrum of antimicrobial activity across the different resistance phenotypes *** most notable antibacterial activity was observed against Staphylococcus aureus 169 MRSA(MIC=0.0625%).As a result,our findings suggest that EO-Eg has antioxidant and antibacterial potential against hospital-acquired multidrug-resistant pathogens,which may be correlated with its major components.

Resistance of the Eucalyptus Wood in Natura and Torrefied Exposed to the Attack of Cryptotermes brevis

The reduced natural durability and low energy density of eucalyptus wood hampers its use to generate energy. Torrefaction or pre-carbonization, treatment in low oxygenation with temperatures between 200 ℃ and 300℃, accumulates carbon and lignin, decreases hygroscopicity, increases energy efficiency and reduces the wood attractiveness to xylophagous organisms, such as termites. Therefore, this work had as its main aim to study the influence of the roasting temperature on the endurance of the Eucalyptus urophylla wood in natura as well as roasted, both exposed to the attack of dry-wood termites. To the execution of this study, in natura wood chips and torrefied chips (torrefied for 20 min at the following temperatures: 180, 220 and 260 ℃) were submitted to the dry-wood termite resistance test. In this experiment, termites of the Cryptotermes brevis species were used. After 45 d of exposure, it was possible to observe that the torrefied treatment presented a greater resistance that consequently increased the endurance when exposed to the termite’s attack, observing that the control sample, loss five times more than mass than the chips torrefied at 260℃. Besides, in the treatment with in natura chips, was observed less mortality of the termites and greater visual damage, confirming the lower durability of such material compared to torrefied chips.

In order to further improve the impact of the continuously evolving neurointerventional techniques, the interventional neuroradiologist needs to have at his disposal more powerful techniques to image the central nervous system. With the recent development of diagnostics techniques that are computed tomography and magnetic resonance based we are now able to assess not just morphology, but also physiology, physiopathology and function. This review discusses the place of diagnostic techniques in the evaluation that the interventional neuroradiologist hast to make when confronted with patients. We provide an overview of current techniques for the brain and spine.

通过两组试验,探索了不同青贮饲料和日粮中粗蛋白质(CP)水平对内洛尔公牛的影响。日粮分为柱花草青贮饲料(STS)和玉米青贮饲料(CS)两种,均包括两种水平的CP:110 g·kg^(-1)和130 g·kg^(-1)干物质基础(DM),精粗比为5050。在试验1中,选取4头平均初始体重(BW)为450±37.9 kg的公牛,并在瘤胃和皱胃进行手术插管。随机分配到一个4×4拉丁方阵中,包含2×2因素设计,共4个阶段,每阶段16 d。在试验阶段,收集瘤胃、皱胃食糜、粪便、尿、血。此外,对DM、CP的动力学参数,中性洗涤纤维(NDF)含量进行检测。在试验2中,选取40头BW为374±16.5 kg的公牛,随机分配到2×2方阵中,每组10个重复,为期99 d,包括15 d适应期和84 d数据采集期。对试验2中公牛营养素的摄入量和消化率及动物的生产性能进行检测。STS组的DM、CP的可降解部分和NDF均极显著低于CS组(P0.050),青贮饲料添加玉米及不同的CP含量对生产性能无显著影响,但STS有降低饲料利用率的趋势(P=0.085)。因此,选取CP含量130 g·kg-1的柱花草青贮饲料可饲喂育肥肉牛。
