Plants hold biochemical and physiological mechanisms to withstand drought conditions.Generally,depending on water deficit interval,plant rehydration relies on how it can retain growth or a positive water balance—or rarely both.In this study,two species of Hymenaea,one from the Amazon and the other from the Brazilian Cerrado,were investigated for their physiological mechanism associated with growth rehydration upon short-term exposure to drought stress.Our findings demonstrate that Hymenaea courbaril tends to invest in nitrogen to the detriment of carbon compounds,-as it is limited by lower net photosynthesis-and adjust root growth to attenuate drought stress responses.In contrast,Hymenaea stigonocarpa takes advantage of higher water potential and a basal rate of lower net photosynthesis to support aboveground growth under such conditions.Hence,it is postulated that there are distinct ways of controlling water status and growth between H.courbaril and H.stigonocarpa,which are determined either by the ability of the species to keep net photosynthesis at low levels of water content or by favoring the accumulation of nitrogen compounds.Both mechanisms were effective with regards to water use efficiency and thus it is reasonable to suggest that strategies are not exclusive and may work under adverse conditions,as observed in Amazon and Brazilian Cerrado biomes.Query.

When data privacy is imposed as a necessity,Federated learning(FL)emerges as a relevant artificial intelligence field for developing machine learning(mL)models in a distributed and decentralized environment.FL allows mL models to be trained on local devices without any need for centralized data transfer,thereby reducing both the exposure of sensitive data and the possibility of data interception by malicious third parties.This paradigm has gained momentum in the last few years,spurred by the plethora of real-world applications that have leveraged its ability to improve the efficiency of distributed learning and to accommodate numerous participants with their data sources.By virtue of FL,models can be learned from all such distributed data sources while preserving data privacy.The aim of this paper is to provide a practical tutorial on FL,including a short methodology and a systematic analysis of existing software frameworks.Furthermore,our tutorial provides exemplary cases of study from three complementary perspectives:i)Foundations of FL,describing the main components of FL,from key elements to FL categories;ii)Implementation guidelines and exemplary cases of study,by systematically examining the functionalities provided by existing software frameworks for FL deployment,devising a methodology to design a FL scenario,and providing exemplary cases of study with source code for different mL approaches;and iii)Trends,shortly reviewing a non-exhaustive list of research directions that are under active investigation in the current FL landscape.The ultimate purpose of this work is to establish itself as a referential work for researchers,developers,and data scientists willing to explore the capabilities of FL in practical applications.

AbstractWe extend the （outer） measureγIassociated to an operator ideal I to a measureγJfor bounded bilinear operators.If I is surjective and closed,and J is the class of those bilinear operators such thatγJ（T）=0,we prove that J coincides with the composition bideal I o B.If I satisfies the ∑r-condition,we establish a simple necessary and sufficient condition for an interpolated operator by the real method to belong to J.Furthermore,if in addition I is symmetric,we prove a formula for the measureγJof an operator interpolated by the real method.In particular,results apply to weakly compact operators.

The development of zero and negative therma expansion （i.e.,ZTE and NTE） materials is of crucial importance to the control of undesirable thermal expansion for high-precision devices.In the present work,ZTE and NTE were obtained in directionally-solidified mnxFe5–xSi3alloys with a strongtexture,in striking contrast to positive thermal expansion in their isotropic counterparts magnetometry and in-situ X-ray diffraction （XRD） measurements were performed to uncover the origin of the anomalous thermal expansion.magnetic measurements indicate a strong easy-plane magnetocrystalline anisotropy in the textured samples,where the magnetic moments are aligned within the ab plane of the hexagonal structure Temperature-dependent XRD on the x=1 sample reveals a ZTE character in the ab plane that is coupled to a ferromagnetic transition.As a result,the macroscopic ZTE(～0.22×10–6K-1) in the x=1 sample can be attributed to the microscopic magneto volume effect within the ab plane,which is realized by the introduction of the-textured microstructure.Besides,the competition between antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic exchange coupling leads to NTE in textured x=1.5 and 2 samples.Additionally,textured x=1 sample displays enhanced magnetocaloric properties as compared to the conventional counterparts with randomly-oriented grains.Consequently this work demonstrates a new strategy toward the exploration of anomalous thermal expansion properties as well as the enhancement of magnetocaloric properties for materials with a strong magnetocrystalline anisotropy.

Usher Syndrome(USH)is the most common deaf-blind syndrome,affecting approximately 1 in 6000 people in the deaf population.This genetic condition is characterized by a combination of hearing loss(HL),retinitis pigmentosa,and,in some cases,vestibular areflexia.Among the subtypes of USH,USH type 1 is considered the most severe form,presenting profound bilateral congenital deafness,vestibular areflexia,and early onset RP.USH type 2 is the most common form,exhibiting congenital moderate to severe HL for low frequencies and severe to profound HL for high frequencies.Conversely,type 3 is the rarest,initially manifesting mild symptoms during childhood that become more prominent in the first decades of life.The dual impact of USH on both visual and auditory senses significantly impairs patients'quality of life,restricting their daily activities and interactions with society.To date,9 genes have been confirmed so far for USH:mYO7A,USH1C,CDH23,PCDH15,USH1G,USH2A,ADGRV1,WHRN and CLRN1.These genes are inherited in an autosomal recessive manner and encode proteins expressed in the inner ear and retina,leading to functional loss.Although non-genetic methods can assist in patient triage and disease extension evaluation,genetic and molecular tests play a pivotal role in providing genetic counseling,enabling appropriate gene therapy,and facilitating timely cochlear implantation(CI).The CRISPR/Cas9 system and viral-based gene replacement therapy have recently emerged as highly promising techniques for treating USH.Regarding drug therapy,PTC-124 and Nb54 have been identified as promising drug interventions for genetic HL in USH.Simultaneously,CI has proven to be critical in the restoration of hearing.This review aims to summarize the genetic and molecular diagnosis of USH and highlight the importance of early diagnosis in Cuzzuol BR et al.Diagnosis and current treatments of USH WJO https://*** 2 January 19,2024 Volume 11 Issue 1 guiding appropriate treatment strategies and improving patient prognosis.

In recent years,graphene field-effect-transistors(GFETs)have demonstrated an outstanding potential for terahertz(THz)photodetection due to their fast response and high-sensitivity.Such features are essential to enable emerging THz applications,including 6G wireless communications,quantum information,bioimaging and security.However,the overall performance of these photodetectors may be utterly compromised by the impact of internal resistances presented in the device,so-called access or parasitic resistances.In this work,we provide a detailed study of the influence of internal device resistances in the photoresponse of high-mobility dual-gate GFET detectors.Such dual-gate architectures allow us to fine tune(decrease)the internal resistance of the device by an order of magnitude and consequently demonstrate an improved responsivity and noise-equivalent-power values of the photodetector,respectively.Our results can be well understood by a series resistance model,as shown by the excellent agreement found between the experimental data and theoretical calculations.These findings are therefore relevant to understand and improve the overall performance of existing high-mobility graphene photodetectors.

Olfactory receptors(ORs)play a key role in the prime sensorial perception,being highly relevant for intra/interspecific interactions.ORs are a subgroup of G-protein coupled receptors that exhibit highly complex subgenomes in vertebrates.However,OR repertoires remain poorly studied in fish lineages,precluding finely retracing their origin,evolution,and diversification,especially in the most basal groups.Here,we conduct an exhaustive gene screening upon 43 high-quality fish genomes exhibiting varied gene repertoires(2e583 genes).While the early vertebrates performed gas exchange through gills,we hypothesize that the emergence of new breathing structures(swim bladder and paired lungs)in early osteichthyans may be associated with expansions in the ORs gene families sensitive to airborne molecules.Additionally,we verify that the OR repertoire of moderns actinopterygians has not increased as expected following a whole genome duplication,likely due to regulatory mechanisms compensating the gene load excess.Finally,we identify 25 distinct OR families,allowing us to propose an updated universal nomenclature for the fish ORs.

The Lusitanian(microtus lusitanicus)and the mediterranean(microtus duodecimcostatus)pine voles are recently diverged sister species endemic of the Iberian Peninsula that can be identiﬁed with ecological and morphological characters,but in areas where the 2 species co-occur,species designation may be difﬁcult.Genetic discrimination between m.lusitanicus and m.duodecimcostatus has not been achieved yet possibly because of their estimated re-cent split and an evolutionary history that includes inter-species geneﬂow.Following our previous observations on exons 5–7 of the p53 gene,here we analyze the potential use of the p53 genomic region as a discrimination marker of these species by extending our analyses to several kb upstream and downstream of the p53 gene and charac-terizing the degree of genetic differentiation in 7 markers within this region.Additionally,we fully sequenced the P53 protein of both species.We observed:(i)generally high differentiation in this region;(ii)m.duodecimcostatus showed in general higher values of nucleotide and haplotype diversities;(iii)the concatenated phylogenetic tree separates the 2 species;(iv)the 2 P53 proteins only differ in 1 amino acid;(v)4 of the markers,2 in p53,one in Atp1b2,and another in Wrap53,contain species-speciﬁc genetic variation thus allowing a reliable discrimination between specimens from both species,irrespective of sampling location or introgression status.We provide ad-ditional data on the putative role of p53 in the evolution of these species and present researchers with a fast and cost-effective resource for m.lusitanicus and m.duodecimcostatus identiﬁcation.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning for hemorrhagic trauma care

Artificial intelligence(AI),a branch of machine learning(mL)has been increasingly employed in the research of trauma in various aspects.Hemorrhage is the most common cause of trauma-related death.To better elucidate the current role of AI and contribute to future development of mL in trauma care,we conducted a review focused on the use of mL in the diagnosis or treatment strategy of traumatic hemorrhage.A literature search was carried out on Pubmed and Google scholar.Titles and abstracts were screened and,if deemed appropriate,the full articles were reviewed.We included 89 studies in the review.These studies could be grouped into five areas:(1)prediction of outcomes;(2)risk assessment and injury severity for triage;(3)prediction of transfusions;(4)detection of hemorrhage;and(5)prediction of coagulopathy.Performance analysis of mL in comparison with current standards for trauma care showed that most studies demonstrated the benefits of mL models.However,most studies were retrospective,focused on prediction of mortality,and development of patient outcome scoring systems.Few studies performed model assessment via test datasets obtained from different sources.Prediction models for transfusions and coagulopathy have been developed,but none is in widespread use.AI-enabled mL-driven technology is becoming integral part of the whole course of trauma care.Comparison and application of mL algorithms using different datasets from initial training,testing and validation in prospective and randomized controlled trials are warranted for provision of decision support for individualized patient care as far forward as possible.

Ultraviolet radiation by its wavelength is divided into: UVA, UVB and UVC. Only UVA and UVB manage to penetrate the ozone layer, but due to anthropological activities, all of them are capable of interacting with humans to a greater or lesser extent, and can generate adverse effects such as cellular stress when interacting with intra-and extracellular biomolecules. The skin is the first organ in contact with UV radiation, and the stress it generates can be analyzed by the expression of a bioindicator of cellular damage such as Hsp70. Therefore, the objective of the project was: to determine the effect of UVA, UVB and UVC radiation on HaCaT epithelial cells, by analyzing the expression of Hsp70. materials and methods: HaCaT cells were cultured in vitro, which were irradiated with UVA, UVB and UVC light at different doses, to subsequently determine the degree of Hsp70 expression by Immunodetection by PAGE-SDS and Western Blot. Results: Basal expression of Hsp70 was observed in no irradiated HaCaT cells. When HaCaT cells were irradiated with UVA, UVB, UVC, an increase in this Hsp70 protein was observed. With UVA, a higher degree of expression was observed at a time of 30 minutes of irradiation. With UVB the highest expression shifted to a time of 20 minutes. With UVC, overexpression was observed after 10 minutes. Conclusion: UV radiation generates cellular stress on HaCaT cells, evaluated by the stress bioindicator Hsp70. According to the wavelength of UV radiation, those that have a shorter wavelength have a greater potential for cellular damage, such as UVC.
