Oxidation Evolution and Activity Origin of N-Doped Carbon in the Oxygen Reduction Reaction

N-doped carbon materials,with their applications as electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR),have been extensively ***,a negletcted fact is that the operating potential of the ORR is higher than the theoretical oxida-tion potential of carbon,possibly leading to the oxidation of carbon ***,the infl uence of the structural oxidation evolution on ORR performance and the real active sites are not *** this study,we discover a two-step oxida-tion process of N-doped carbon during the *** fi rst oxidation process is caused by the applied potential and bubbling oxygen during the ORR,leading to the oxidative dissolution of N and the formation of abundant oxygen-containing functional *** oxidation process also converts the reaction path from the four-electron(4e)ORR to the two-electron(2e)***,the enhanced 2e ORR generates oxidative H_(2)O_(2),which initiates the second stage of oxidation to some newly formed oxygen-containing functional groups,such as quinones to dicarboxyls,further diversifying the oxygen-containing functional groups and making carboxyl groups as the dominant *** also reveal the synergistic eff ect of multiple oxygen-containing functional groups by providing additional opportunities to access active sites with optimized adsorption of OOH*,thus leading to high effi ciency and durability in electrocatalytic H_(2)O_(2) production.

β-Lactoglobulin stabilized lipid nanoparticles enhance oral absorption of insulin by slowing down lipolysis

Lipid-based nanocarriers have staged a remarkable comeback in the oral delivery of proteins and peptides, but delivery efficiency is compromised by lipolysis. β-Lactoglobulin(β-lg) stabilized lipid nanoparticles, including nanoemulsions(NE@β-lg) and nanocapsules(NC@β-lg), were developed to enhance the oral absorption of insulin by slowing down lipolysis due to the protection from β-lg. Cremophor EL stabilized nanoemulsions(NE@Cre-EL) were prepared and set as a control. The lipid nanoparticles produced mild and sustained hypoglycemic effects, amounting to oral bioavailability of 3.0% ± 0.3%, 7.0% ± 1.1%, and7.7% ± 0.8% for NE@Cre-EL, NE@β-lg, and NC@β-lg, respectively. Aggregation-caused quenching(ACQ)probes enabled the identification of intact nanoparticles, which were used to investigate the in vivo and intracellular fates of the lipid nanoparticles. In vitro digestion/lipolysis and ex vivo imaging confirmed delayed lipolysis from β-lg stabilized lipid nanoparticles. NC@β-lg was more resistant to intestinal lipolysis than NE@β-lg due to the Ca^(2+)-induced crosslinking. Live imaging revealed the transepithelial transport of intact nanoparticles and their accumulation in the liver. Cellular studies confirmed the uptake of intact nanoparticles. Slowing down lipolysis via food proteins represents a good strategy to enhance the oral absorption of lipid nanoparticles and thus co-formulated biomacromolecules.

Achieving a superior na storage performance of Fe-based Prussian blue cathode by coating perylene tetracarboxylic dianhydride amine

Fe-based Prussian blue(Fe-PB)cathode material shows great application potential in sodium(na)-ion batteries due to its high theoretical capacity,long cycle life,low cost,and simple preparation ***,the crystalline water and vacancies of Fe-PB lattice,the low electrical conductivity,and the dissolution of metal ions lead to limited capacity and poor cycling *** this work,a perylene tetracarboxylic dianhydride amine(PTCDA)coating layer is successfully fabricated on the surface of Fe-PB by a liquid-phase *** aminated PTCDA(PTCA)coating not only increases the specific surface area and electronic conductivity but also effectively reduces the crystalline water and vacancies,which avoids the erosion of Fe-PB by ***,the PTCA layer reduces the charge transfer resistance,enhances the na-ion diffusion coefficient,and improves the structure *** PTCA-coated Fe-PB exhibits superior na storage performance with a first discharge capacity of 145.2 mAh g^(−1) at 100 mA g^(−1).Long cycling tests exhibit minimal capacity decay of 0.027%per cycle over 1000 cycles at 1 A g^(−1).Therefore,this PTCA coating strategy has shown promising competence in enhancing the electrochemical performance of Fe-PB,which can potentially serve as a universal electrode coating strategy for na-ion batteries.

Investigation of oxy-fuel combustion for methane and acid gas in a diffusion flame

Co-combustion of methane(CH4)and acid gas(AG)is required to sustain the temperature in Claus reaction *** this study,oxy-fuel combustion of methane and acid gas has been experimentally studied in a diffusion *** equivalence ratios(ER=1.0,1.5,2.0)and CH_(4)-addition ratios(CH_(4)/AG=0.3,0.5,0.7)were examined and the flame was interpreted by analyzing the distributions of the temperature and species concentration along central ***_(4)-AG diffusion flame could be classified into three sections namely initial reaction,oxidation and complex reaction *** oxidation of CH_(4)and H_(2)S was noted in the first section wherein H_(2)S was preferred and both were mainly proceeding decomposition and partial ***_(2)was formed at oxidation section together with obvious presence of H2 and ***,H2 and CO were inclined to be sustained under fuel rich condition in the complex reaction *** ER and increasing CH4/AG contributed to higher temperature,H_(2)S and CH_(4)oxidation and CO_(2)*** a growing trend for CH_(4)and AG to convert into H_(2),CO and SO_(2)could be *** this factor enhanced the generation of CS2 and COS in the flame inner core by interactions of CH4 and CO_(2)with sulfur *** was formed through the interactions of CO and CO_(2)with sulfur *** CS_(2)production directly relied on reaction of CH_(4)with sulfur *** concentration of COS was greater than CS_(2)since CS_(2)was probably inhibited due to the presence of H_(2).COS and CS_(2)could be consumed by further oxidation or other complex reactions.

Assessment of natural and anthropogenic impacts on terrestrial water storage in the Loess Plateau based on different types of GRACE/GRACE-FO solutions

Changes in water resource storage are inevitable due to climate change and human activities,thus understanding alterations in water storage within a specific region is imperative for the planning and management of water *** from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment(GRACE)satellite mission are extensively employed to analyze large-scale total terrestrial water storage anomalies(TWSA).In this study,we derived a more reliable TWSA using different types of GRACE gravity models,which served as the basis for evaluating spatial and temporal variations in total terrestrial water storage and its hydrological components(soil moisture and groundwater)across the Loess ***,we analyzed the impact of natural and anthropogenic influences on water storage in the Loess Plateau,categorizing them into primary and secondary influences,utilizing data on climate and human *** findings revealed a declining trend in the overall TWSA of the Loess Plateau,with a rate of decrease at-0.65±0.05 cm/yr from 2003 to 2020(Pnated the change of TWSA before 2009,and groundwater dominated the change of TWSA after ***,there was variability in the changes of TWSA in the Loess *** in-depth studies showed that soil moisture changes in the study area were primarily driven by evapotranspiration and temperature,with precipitation and vegetation cover status playing a secondary *** activities had a secondary effect on soil moisture in some *** change and agricultural development were major factors in altering groundwater storage in the study *** than that,groundwater was influenced by natural factors to a limited *** findings provided valuable insights for local governments to implement proactive water management policies.
