The unique spontaneous polarization property and application of ferroelectric materials in photocatalysis

The unique spontaneous polarization property of ferroelectric material makes it to be a special catalyst in photocatalysis.The spontaneous polarization property can induce the formation of built-in electric field,which can improve the separation of photoelectrons and holes to affect photocatalytic performance.The internal electric field induced by spontaneous polarization can be influenced by multiple factors such as the morphology,the concentration of defect,the type of doped heteroatoms,as well as the composition of heterostructures.Besides,the preparation method,pretreating temperature,the strength of prepolarized external electric field of ferroelectric-based photocatalysts as well as the strength of external mechanical force or external magnetic field in photocatalytic reactions can influence the photocatalytic effectivity via influencing spontaneous polarization-induced internal electric field.Thus,it is urgently to unveil the mystery of structure-activity relationships for ferroelectric materials-based photocatalysts,which is usually uncertain.With this in mind,this review was provided for the role of various complex influencing factors on ferroelectric materials-based photocatalysis based on the latest advancement in the fields of new energy development,environmental remediation.In the beginning,the basic structure and properties of ferroelectric material are given.Then,popular synthesis methods of ferroelectric-based photocatalysts are summarized.After that,two main mechanisms of ferroelectric photocatalysis are discussed.The research progress of ferroelectric photocatalysis is then given emphatically according to the classification of photocatalytic reactions.Finally,the problems existing nowadays and the challenges facing in the future on the application of ferroelectric materials-based photocatalysts are outlined in the summary and outlook section.

Acute effect of foot strike patterns on in vivo tibiotalar and subtalar joint kinematics during barefoot running

Background:Foot kinematics,such as excessive eversion and malalignment of the hindfoot,are believed to be associated with running-related injuries.The maj ority of studies to date show that different foot strike patterns influence these specific foot and ankle kinematics.However,technical deficiencies in traditional motion capture approaches limit knowledge of in vivo joint kinematics with respect to rearfoot and forefoot strike patterns(RFS and FFS,respectively).This study uses a high-speed dual fluoroscopic imaging system(DFIS)to determine the effects of different foot strike patterns on 3D in vivo tibiotalar and subtalar joints kinematics.Methods:Fifteen healthy male recreational runners underwent foot computed tomography scanning for the construction of 3-dimensional models.A high-speed DFIS(100 Hz)was used to collect 6 degrees of freedom kinematics for participants’tibiotalar and subtalar joints when they adopted RFS and FFS in barefoot condition.Results:Compared with RFS,FFS exhibited greater internal rotation at 0%-20%of the stance phase in the tibiotalar joint.The peak internal rotation angle of the tibiotalar joint under FFS was greater than under RFS(plusion:Running with acute barefoot FFS increases the internal rotation of the tibiotalar joint in the early stance.The use of high-speed DFIS to quantify the movement of the tibiotalar and subtalar joint was critical to revealing the effects of RF S and FFS during running.

Elaidic acid leads to mitochondrial dysfunction via mitochondria-associated membranes triggers disruption of mitochondrial calcium fluxes

Elaidic acid(EA)stimulation can lead to endoplasmic reticulum stress(ERS),accompanied by a large release of Ca^(2+),and ultimately the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome in Kupffer cells(KCs).Mitochondrial instability or dysfunction may be the key stimulating factors to activate NLRP3 inflammasome,and sustained Ca^(2+)transfer can result in mitochondrial dysfunction.We focused on KCs to explore the damage to mitochondria by EA.After EA stimulation,cells produced an oxidative stress(OS)response with a significant increase in ROS release.Immunoprecipitation experiments and the addition of inhibitors revealed that the increase in the level of intracellular Ca^(2+)led to Ca^(2+)accumulation in the mitochondrial matrix via mitochondria-associated membranes(MAMs).This was accompanied by a significant release of m ROS,loss of MMP and ATP,and a significant increase in mitochondrial permeability transition pore opening,ultimately leading to mitochondrial instability.These findings confirmed the mechanism that EA induced mitochondrial Ca^(2+)imbalance in KCs via MAM,ultimately leading to mitochondrial dysfunction.Meanwhile,EA induced OS and the decrease of MMP and ATP in rat liver,and significant lesions were found in liver mitochondria.Swelling of the inner mitochondrial cristae and mitochondrial vacuolization occurred,with a marked increase in lipid droplets.

Elaidic acid-induced intestinal barrier damage led to gut-liver axis derangement and triggered NLRP3 inflammasome in the liver of SD rats

Previous studies have shown that trans fatty acids(TFA) are associated with several chronic diseases,the gut microbiota is directly influenced by dietary components and linked to chronic diseases.Our research investigated the effects of elaidic acid(EA),a typical TFA,on the gut microbiota to understand the underlying mechanisms of TFA-related chronic diseases.16S rDNA gene sequencing on faecal samples from Sprague-Dawley rats were performed to explore the composition change of the gut microbiota by EA gavage for 4 weeks.The results showed that the intake of EA increased the abundance of well-documented harmful bacteria,such as Proteobacteria,Anaerotruncus,Oscillibacter and Desulfovibrionaceae.Plus,EA induced translocation of lipopolysaccharides(LPS) and the above pathogenic bacteria,disrupted the intestinal barrier,led to gut-liver axis derangement and TLR4 pathway activation in the liver.Overall,EA induced intestinal barrier damage and regulated TLR4-MyD88-NF-κB/MAPK pathways in the liver of SD rats,leading to the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome and inflammatory liver damage.

Enhancing Deep Learning Soil Moisture Forecasting Models by Integrating Physics-based Models

Accurate soil moisture(SM)prediction is critical for understanding hydrological processes.Physics-based(PB)models exhibit large uncertainties in SM predictions arising from uncertain parameterizations and insufficient representation of land-surface processes.In addition to PB models,deep learning(DL)models have been widely used in SM predictions recently.However,few pure DL models have notably high success rates due to lacking physical information.Thus,we developed hybrid models to effectively integrate the outputs of PB models into DL models to improve SM predictions.To this end,we first developed a hybrid model based on the attention mechanism to take advantage of PB models at each forecast time scale(attention model).We further built an ensemble model that combined the advantages of different hybrid schemes(ensemble model).We utilized SM forecasts from the Global Forecast System to enhance the convolutional long short-term memory(ConvLSTM)model for 1–16 days of SM predictions.The performances of the proposed hybrid models were investigated and compared with two existing hybrid models.The results showed that the attention model could leverage benefits of PB models and achieved the best predictability of drought events among the different hybrid models.Moreover,the ensemble model performed best among all hybrid models at all forecast time scales and different soil conditions.It is highlighted that the ensemble model outperformed the pure DL model over 79.5%of in situ stations for 16-day predictions.These findings suggest that our proposed hybrid models can adequately exploit the benefits of PB model outputs to aid DL models in making SM predictions.

CREDIT-X1local:A reference dataset for machine learning seismology from ChinArray in Southwest China

High-quality datasets are critical for the development of advanced machine-learning algorithms in seismology.Here,we present an earthquake dataset based on the ChinArray Phase I records(X1).ChinArray Phase I was deployed in the southern north-south seismic zone(20°N-32°N,95°E-110°E)in 2011-2013 using 355 portable broadband seismic stations.CREDIT-X1local,the first release of the ChinArray Reference Earthquake Dataset for Innovative Techniques(CREDIT),includes comprehensive information for the 105,455 local events that occurred in the southern north-south seismic zone during array observation,incorporating them into a single HDF5 file.Original 100-Hz sampled three-component waveforms are organized by event for stations within epicenter distances of 1,000 km,and records of≥200 s are included for each waveform.Two types of phase labels are provided.The first includes manually picked labels for 5,999 events with magnitudes≥2.0,providing 66,507 Pg,42,310 Sg,12,823 Pn,and 546 Sn phases.The second contains automatically labeled phases for 105,442 events with magnitudes of−1.6 to 7.6.These phases were picked using a recurrent neural network phase picker and screened using the corresponding travel time curves,resulting in 1,179,808 Pg,884,281 Sg,176,089 Pn,and 22,986 Sn phases.Additionally,first-motion polarities are included for 31,273 Pg phases.The event and station locations are provided,so that deep learning networks for both conventional phase picking and phase association can be trained and validated.The CREDIT-X1local dataset is the first million-scale dataset constructed from a dense seismic array,which is designed to support various multi-station deep-learning methods,high-precision focal mechanism inversion,and seismic tomography studies.Additionally,owing to the high seismicity in the southern north-south seismic zone in China,this dataset has great potential for future scientific discoveries.

Influence of cerium and yttrium addition on strength and electrical conductivity of pure aluminum alloys

To develop pure aluminum alloys with high conductivity and strength, Al-0.2Ce and Al-0.2Ce-0.1Y alloys were prepared by rolling and annealing processes in this study. The effects of trace rare earth elements on the strength and electrical conductivity of the pure aluminum alloys were investigated. It is revealed that the addition of Ce and Y to pure aluminum can effectively enhance the strength and electrical conductivity of the alloys. In Al-0.2Ce, the addition of Ce can effectively refine the grain size of a-Al, with an average grain size of 90.68 μm in the as-cast state. The grain size of the alloy is further reduced to 87.55 μm by the simultaneous addition of Y. The synergistic addition of Ce and Y changes the properties of the alloy. The addition of Ce and Y also produces the Al_(11)Ce_(3) and Al_(3)Y second phases, which have coherent relationship with a-Al. The two-dimensional mismatch degree was calculated to be only 4.43%and 0.85%, respectively, which can provide a certain amount of nucleation substrate for a-Al in the incubation stage. The interfacial match between the L1_(2)structure of Al_(3)Y and a-Al was calculated using first-principles simulations. The results indicate that Al_(3)Y has a strong bonding effect with a-Al. Nanoscale second phases at grain boundaries can be effective in reducing resistivity due to dislocation motion.Nanoscale second phases with better matching interfaces to the substrate have no positive effect on the scattering motion of electrons.

β-Lactoglobulin stabilized lipid nanoparticles enhance oral absorption of insulin by slowing down lipolysis

lipid-based nanocarriers have staged a remarkable comeback in the oral delivery of proteins and peptides, but delivery efficiency is compromised by lipolysis. β-Lactoglobulin(β-lg) stabilized lipid nanoparticles, including nanoemulsions(NE@β-lg) and nanocapsules(NC@β-lg), were developed to enhance the oral absorption of insulin by slowing down lipolysis due to the protection from β-lg. Cremophor EL stabilized nanoemulsions(NE@Cre-EL) were prepared and set as a control. The lipid nanoparticles produced mild and sustained hypoglycemic effects, amounting to oral bioavailability of 3.0% ± 0.3%, 7.0% ± 1.1%, and7.7% ± 0.8% for NE@Cre-EL, NE@β-lg, and NC@β-lg, respectively. Aggregation-caused quenching(ACQ)probes enabled the identification of intact nanoparticles, which were used to investigate the in vivo and intracellular fates of the lipid nanoparticles. In vitro digestion/lipolysis and ex vivo imaging confirmed delayed lipolysis from β-lg stabilized lipid nanoparticles. NC@β-lg was more resistant to intestinal lipolysis than NE@β-lg due to the Ca^(2+)-induced crosslinking. live imaging revealed the transepithelial transport of intact nanoparticles and their accumulation in the liver. Cellular studies confirmed the uptake of intact nanoparticles. Slowing down lipolysis via food proteins represents a good strategy to enhance the oral absorption of lipid nanoparticles and thus co-formulated biomacromolecules.

Carboniferous integrative stratigraphy,biotas,and paleogeographical evolution of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas

During the Carboniferous Period,the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas were located in quite different paleogeographic positions with various sedimentary and biological types.It is important to systematically compile and summarize the Carboniferous strata and biotas of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas,to establish an integrated stratigraphic framework for correlation,and to reconstruct the paleogeography for correctly understanding the breakup of the Gondwana Continent and the evolution of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean in the Late Paleozoic.The Carboniferous of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas can be subdivided into the Gondwanan,Cimmerian,and Tethyan types.The Gondwanan-type Carboniferous are distributed in the North Himalayan,Kangmar-Lhunze,and Zanda-Zumba regions of the South Tibet Subprovince and northern India-Pakistan Area,where only the Mississippian is developed and the biota is of Gondwanan affinity.The Cimmerian-type Carboniferous,which are found in the Baoshan,Tengchong,Coqen-Xainza,LhasaZayu,Nagqu-Biru,and South Qiangtang regions,as well as Shan-Thai and South Afghanistan-Pamir areas,also represent only the Mississippian strata,but their biota is characterized by mixed characters of European,South China,Australian,and North American types.The Tethyan-type Carboniferous are distributed in the Tanggula Mountains,Hoh Xil-Bayanhar,ChamdoHengduanshan,Tiekelike,West Kunlun,Karakorum,East Kunlun-Central Qinling,and Qilian regions,where the Carboniferous succession is well developed,and the biota is of warm-water Tethyan affinity.The biostratigraphical correlation of the Gondwanan-type and Cimmerian-type Carboniferous is based mainly on conodonts and additionally on brachiopods and rugose corals.The Mississippian of the Tethyan-type Carboniferous is correlated mainly by using rugose corals and brachiopods,whereas in the Pennsylvanian foraminifera(fusuline)and conodonts are regarded as primary fossil groups,subordinated by rugose corals and brachiopods.Adhering

Research on the longitudinal protection of a through-type cophase traction direct power supply system based on the empirical wavelet transform

This paper proposes a longitudinal protection scheme utilizing empirical wavelet transform(EWT)for a through-type cophase traction direct power supply system,where both sides of a traction network line exhibit a distinctive boundary structure.This approach capitalizes on the boundary’s capacity to attenuate the high-frequency component of fault signals,resulting in a variation in the high-frequency transient energy ratio when faults occur inside or outside the line.During internal line faults,the high-frequency transient energy at the checkpoints located at both ends surpasses that of its neighboring lines.Conversely,for faults external to the line,the energy is lower compared to adjacent lines.EWT is employed to decompose the collected fault current signals,allowing access to the high-frequency transient energy.The longitudinal protection for the traction network line is established based on disparities between both ends of the traction network line and the high-frequency transient energy on either side of the boundary.Moreover,simulation verification through experimental results demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed protection scheme across various initial fault angles,distances to faults,and fault transition resistances.
