AIM: To detect ophthalmic adverse drug reactions(ADRs), that occurred in Portugal from 2000 to 2009, through the utilization of administrative hospital databases. We also intended to compare the results of this methodology with spontaneous ***: We conducted a retrospective nationwide study using hospital administrative databases, which included all inpatients and outpatients in all public hospitals in Portugal, from 2000 to 2009. We used International Classification of Diseases- 9th Revision- Clinical Modification(ICD-9-CM) coding data that allowed the detection of ADRs. We used WHO's definition for ADR. We searched all of ICD-9-CM terms in Ophthalmology for codes that included "drug-induced", "iatrogenic", "toxic" and all other that could signal an ADR, such as "362.55- toxic maculopathy" or "365.03- steroid responders", and also "E" codes(codes from E930 to E949.9, that exclude intoxications and errors).REsULTs: From 11944725 hospitalizations or ambulatory episodes within that period of time, we identified 1524 probable ophthalmic ADRs(corresponding to a frequency of 1.28 per 10000 episodes) and an additional 100 possible ophthalmic ADRs. We used only 4 person-hours in the application of this methodology. A total of 113 spontaneous reports arose from ophthalmic ADRs from 2000 to 2009 in Portugal(frequency of 0.095 per 10000 episodes).To our knowledge, this was the first estimate of the frequency of ophthalmic ADRs through the use of databases, and the first nationwide estimate of ophthalmic ADRs, in Portugal. We identified 1524 probable ADRs and 100 possible ADRs. CONClusION: This database methodology adapted for Ophthalmology may represent a new approach for the detection of ophthalmic ADRs, since these codes exist in the ICD-9-CM classification. Its performance was clearly superior to spontaneous reporting.

AIM: To investigate the association between epidermal growth factor (EGF) +61A/G polymorphism and susceptibility to gastric cancer, through a cross-sectional study. METHODs: Polymerase chain reaction resctriction fragment lenght polymorphism analyses were used to genotype EGF +61 in 207 patients with gastric lesions (162 patients with gastric adenocarcinomas, 45 with atrophy or intestinal metaplasia) and 984 controls. All subjects were Caucasian. REsULTs: Genotype distribution was 23.5% for GG and 76.5% for GA/AA in the control group, 18.4% for GG and 68.6% for GA/AA in the entire group with gastric lesions and 17.9% for GG and 82.1% for GA/AA in the group with gastric adenocarcinoma. No statistically significant associations were found between EGF +61 variants and risk for developing gastric cancer [odds ratios (OR) = 1.41, 95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.90-2.21, P = 0.116]. However, the stratification of individuals by gender revealed that males carrying A alleles (EGF +61A/G or AA) had an increased risk for developing gastric cancer as compared to GG homozygous males (OR = 1.55, 95% CI: 1.05-2.28, P = 0.021). CONClusION: In summary, we found that males who were A carriers for EGF +61 had an increased risk for developing gastric cancer. This result may be explained by the suggestion that women secrete less gastric acid than men.

在过去的十年中,随着环境挑战的提出,固体废弃物的再生利用成为一个极具环保效益与经济效益的研究热点。近年来,人们对利用建筑垃圾与工业废物协同制备辅助胶凝材料(sCM)进行了大量的研究,以帮助减少建筑垃圾对环境的影响。最近的研究表明,建筑垃圾的再生产品——再生微粉具有一定的活性,可尝试制备胶凝材料,但相关学者发现,无论再生粉的粒度和来源如何,再生微粉掺入到普通硅酸盐水泥中的最佳掺量限制在0-30%。水泥掺量大于30%的混合料的抗压强度和抗折强度明显降低。为了提高再生粉替代传统水泥的采用,学者们使用活化方法来激发混合料中再生微粉的活性。通过研磨再生微粉的机械活化、使用分级助剂和混合再生微粉的化学活化以及纳米Ca CO3料浆活化是再生微粉最常用的活化方法。因为赤泥中含有强碱矿物,本研究研究了以赤泥为可持续建筑材料替代水泥的再生微粉的活化方法,通过对再生微粉机械活化方法进行不同配合比、不同材料替代率下试件力学特性的室内试验。实验1结果表明,赤泥本身不会活化再生微粉,因此实验2使用水泥含量低激活再生微粉的混合物。这个实验的结果表明,添加水泥混合设计增加了整体抗压强度,在使用30%的水泥和35%至50%再生微粉时胶凝材料获得最佳效果。本实验的第一部分使用赤泥作为再生粉的活化剂,制备砂浆试件。第二部分提出水泥作为赤泥和再生微粉的活化剂,利用水泥水化产生的氢氧化钙Ca(OH)2活化赤泥和再生微粉中的硅、铝矿物。通过7天和28天的抗压和抗折强度试验确定了水泥活化赤泥再生微粉的力学性能,确定了最佳配合比设计。

Nucleon Finite Volume Effect and Nuclear Matter Properties in a Relativistic Mean-Field Theory

Effects of excluded volume of nucleons on nuclear matter are studied, and the nuclear properties that follow from different relativistic mean-field model parametrizations are compared. We show that, for all tested parametrizations, the resulting volume energy al and the symmetry energy J are around the acceptable values of 16 MeV and 30 MeV, and the density symmetry L is around 100 MeV. On the other hand, models that consider only linear terms lead to incompressibility Ko much higher than expected. For most parameter sets there exists a critical point （pc, δc）, where the minimum and the maximum of the equation of state are coincident and the incompressibility equals zero. This critical point depends on the excluded volume parameter r. If this parameter is larger than 0.5 fm, there is no critical point and the pure neutron matter is predicted to be bound. The maximum value for neutron star mass is 1.85M⊙, which is in agreement with the mass of the heaviest observed neutron star 4U0900-40 and corresponds to r = 0.72 fm. We also show that the light neutron star mass （1.2M⊙） is obtained for r ≌ 0.9 fro.
