Optical immersion clearing is a technique that has been widely studied for more than two decades and that is used to originate a temporary transparency effect in biological *** applied in cooperation with clinical methods it provides optimization of diagnosis and treatment *** technique turns biological tissues more transparent through two main mechanisms-tissue dehydration and refractive index(RI)matching between tissue *** matching is obtained by partial replacement of interstit ial water by a biocompat ible agent that presents higher RI and it can be completely rever sible by natural rehydration in vrivo or by assisted rehydration in ex vivo *** data to characterize and discriminate between the two mechanisms and to find new ones are *** a simple method,based on collimated transmittance and thickness measurements made from muscle samples under treatment,we have estimated the diffusion properties of glucose,ethylene glycol(EG)and water that were used to perform such char acterization and *** these properties with data from literature that characterize their diffusion in water we have observed that musde cell membrane permeability limits agent and water diffusion in the *** same experi-mental data has allowed to calculate the optical dearing(OC)eficiency and make an inter-pretation of the internal changes that occurred in muscle during the *** same methodology can now be used to perform similar studies with other agents and in other tissues in order to solve engineering problems at design of inexpensive and robust technologies for a *** improvement of optical tomogr aphic techmiques with better contrast and in depth imaging.

With the objective to study the variation of optical properties of rat muscle during optical clearing,we have performed a set of optical measurements from that kind of *** performed were total tr ansmittance,ollimated transmit tance,specular reflec-tance and total *** set of measurements is suficient to determine diffuse reflectance and absorbance of the sample,also necessary to est imate the optical *** the per formed measurements and calculated quantities will be used later in inverse Monte Carlo(IMC)simu-lations to determine the evolution of the optical properties of muscle during treatments with ethylene glycol and *** results obt ained with the measurements already provide some information about the optical c learing treatments applied to the muscle and translate the mechanisms of turning the tissue more transparent and sequence of regimes of optical clearing.

Burning down on semi-solid by-product from distillation of cellulosic ethanol to power upstream steps of its manufacturing is ***,this feedstock is homogenous in size and shape,hygroscopic and poorly *** disadvantages make its re-use in the industrial plant very *** of this agro-residue into high-performance blends for heating and power is,accordingly,the scientific point of this *** pilot-scale manufacturing of composite pellets consisted of systematically pressing the residue with sugarcane bagasse at the mass ratios of 1:4,2:4,and 3:4 on an automatic pelletizer machine at 200 MPa and 125℃.The process of compaction lasted for 90 *** and energy density,both increased significantly,from 95.85%to 99.55%and from 27.95 GJ m^(−3) to 32.20 GJ m^(−3) with blending at 3:***,the semi-solid by-product considerably improved the feeding,thus,enabling the layers of particles to go smoothly through the channel-forming die of the ***,blends became stiffer and denser than pellets purely consisting of sugarcane *** evidence of the process of pelleting capable of highly valorizing the semi-solid by-product from distillation of cellulosic bioethanol into mechanically stable and energetically effective hybrid fuel grade biosolids *** major findings of this paper should be of great relevance to ensure safe and effective transportation and storage of biomass in indoor facili-ties where the risk for the generation of dust and fines and the subsequent off-gassing and self-firing is ***,pelletization may optimize the co-generation of heat and steam at the large-scale bioethanol station.

Mitochondrial disorders are phenotypically varied, with serious clinical repercussions. Among them, there is the deficiency of combined oxidative phosphorylation of type 20, which occurs due to a defect in the VARs2 gene. This article presents a case of a 2-year-old female with progressive myoclonic epilepsy and psychomotor regression, with refractoriness to multiple anticonvulsants. The diagnosis was only made after the examination was carried out. Therefore, this article highlights the aspects of this rare disease and the importance of the exome for the diagnosis of rare conditions.

Understanding the local structure and thermophysical behavior of Mg-La liquid alloys via machine learning potential

The local structure and thermophysical behavior of Mg-La liquid alloys were in-depth understood using deep potential molecular dynamic(DPMD) simulation driven via machine learning to promote the development of Mg-La alloys. The robustness of the trained deep potential(DP) model was thoroughly evaluated through several aspects, including root-mean-square errors(RMsEs), energy and force data, and structural information comparison results;the results indicate the carefully trained DP model is reliable. The component and temperature dependence of the local structure in the Mg-La liquid alloy was analyzed. The effect of Mg content in the system on the first coordination shell of the atomic pairs is the same as that of temperature. The pre-peak demonstrated in the structure factor indicates the presence of a medium-range ordered structure in the Mg-La liquid alloy, which is particularly pronounced in the 80at% Mg system and disappears at elevated temperatures. The density, self-diffusion coefficient, and shear viscosity for the Mg-La liquid alloy were predicted via DPMD simulation, the evolution patterns with Mg content and temperature were subsequently discussed, and a database was established accordingly. Finally, the mixing enthalpy and elemental activity of the Mg-La liquid alloy at 1200 K were reliably evaluated,which provides new guidance for related studies.

The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(sARs-CoV-2)infection has been a major challenge to be faced in recent *** adults suffered the highest morbidity and mortality rates of coronavirus disease 2019,children were thought to be exclusively asymptomatic or to present with mild ***,around April 2020,there was an outbreak of a new clinical syndrome related to sARs-CoV-2 in children-multisystemic inflam-matory syndrome in children(MIs-C)-which comprises a severe and uncon-trolled hyperinflammatory response with multiorgan *** Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers a suspected case of MIs-C an individual ageds presenting with fever,high inflammatory markers levels,and evidence of clinically severe illness,with multisystem(>2)organ involvement,no alternative plausible diagnoses,and positive for recent sARs-CoV-2 *** its severity,there are no definitive disease management guidelines for this ***,the complex pathogenesis of MIs-C is still not completely understood,although it seems to rely upon immune ***,in this study,we aim to bring together current evidence regarding the pathogenic mechanisms of MIs-C,clinical picture and management,in order to provide insights for clinical practice and implications for future research directions.

Controllable synthesis of biomimetic wood stem nanoporous high entropy oxides catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction

Bubbles generated during the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)in water splitting readily adhere to the electrode surface,thereby impeding contact between the electrolyte and the active sites,thereby increasing the ***,it is imperative to elucidate the bubble release behavior and engineer electrodes that facilitate faster bubble *** this study,inspired by the wood stem of the Norway spruce,we synthesized a gradient nanoporous high-entropy oxide(GNP-HEO)electrode with a controllable pore *** GNP-HEO,featuring a well-controlled gradient in pore size,is achieved through a straightforward strategy combining selective laser melting with selective phase *** unique gradient nanoporous structure not only facilitates bubble release but also diminishes the bubble shielding effect in OER,thereby enhancing electrocatalytic *** affect interaction of Al,Co,Cr,Fe,and Ni,coupled with the gradient nanoporous structure,yields exceptional OER performance,evidenced by an overpotential of 250 mV at a current density of 50 mA/cm^(2) and a Tafel slope of 38.0 mV/dec in 1 M *** functional theory calculations confirm that the GNPHEO adheres to the adsorbate evolution mechanism reaction pathway and exhibits significant *** work highlights a promising approach for the design and synthesis of high-performance OER electrocatalysts.

From waste to wealth:Coal tar residue derived carbon materials as low-cost anodes for potassium-ion batteries

Carbon materials are widely recognized as highly promising electrode materials for various energy storage system *** tar residues(CTR),as a type of carbon-rich solid waste with high value-added utilization,are crucially important for the development of a more sustainable *** this study,we employed a straightforward direct carbonization method within the temperature range of 700-1000℃to convert the worthless solid waste CTR into economically valuable carbon materials as anodes for potassium-ion batteries(PIBs).The effect of carbonization temperature on the microstructure and the potassium ions storage properties of CTR-derived carbons(CTRCs)were systematically explored by structural and morphological characterization,alongside electrochemical performances *** on the co-regulation between the turbine layers,crystal structure,pore structure,functional groups,and electrical conductivity of CTR-derived carbon carbonized at 900℃(CTRC-900H),the electrode material with high reversible capacity of 265.6m Ah·g^(-1)at 50 m A·g^(-1),a desirable cycling stability with 93.8%capacity retention even after 100 cycles,and the remarkable rate performance for PIBs were ***,cyclic voltammetry(CV)at different scan rates and galvanostatic intermittent titration technique(GITT)have been employed to explore the potassium ions storage mechanism and electrochemical kinetics of *** indicate that the electrode behavior is predominantly governed by surface-induced capacitive processes,particularly under high current densities,with the potassium storage mechanism characterized by an“adsorption-weak intercalation”*** work highlights the potential of CTR-based carbon as a promising electrode material category suitable for high-performance PIBs electrodes,while also provides valuable insights into the new avenues for the high value-added utilization of CTR.
