The potential association b.tween colorectal cancer(CRC)and environmental pollutants is *** studies have found that some perfluoroalkyl acids,including perfluorooctane sulfonate(PFOS),induced colorectal tumors in experimental animals and promoted the migration of and invasion b. CRC cells in vitro,b.t the underlying mechanism is ***,we investigated the effects of PFOS on the proliferation and migration of CRC cells and the potentialmechanisms involving activating the PI3K/Akt-NF-κb.signal pathway and epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT).It was found that PFOS promoted the growth andmigration of HCT116 cells at non-cytotoxic concentrations and increased the mRNA expression of the migration-related angiogenic cytokines vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and interleukin-8(IL-8).In a mechanistic investigation,the up-stream signal pathway PI3K/Akt-NF-κb.was activated b. PFOS,and the process was suppressed b. LY294002(PI3K/Akt inhib.tor)and b.Y11-7082(NF-κb.inhib.tor)respectively,leading to less proliferation of HCT116 ***,matrix metalloproteinases(MMP)and EMT-related markers were up-regulated after PFOS exposure,and were also suppressed respectively b. Neural-field-assisted transport-of-intensity phase microscopy: partially coherent quantitative phase imaging under unknown defocus distance

The transport-of-intensity equation(TIE) enab.es quantitative phase imaging(QPI) under partially coherent illumination b. measuring the through-focus intensities comb.ned with a linearized inverse reconstruction algorithm. However, overcoming its sensitivity to imaging settings remains a challenging prob.em b.cause of the difficulty in tuning the optical parameters of the imaging system accurately and b.cause of the instab.lity to long-time measurements. To address these limitations, we propose and experimentally validate a solution called neural-field-assisted transport-of-intensity phase microscopy(NFTPM) b. introducing a tunab.e defocus parameter into neural field. Without weak ob.ect approximation, NFTPM incorporates the physical prior of partially coherent image formation to constrain the neural field and learns the continuous representation of phase ob.ect without the need for training. Simulation and experimental results of He La cells demonstrate that NFTPM can achieve accurate, partially coherent QPI under unknown defocus distances, providing new possib.lities for extending applications in live cell b.ology.

The anisotropy of suprathermal electrons in the Martian ionosphere

Suprathermal electrons are an important population of the Martian ionosphere, either produced b. photoionization of atmospheric neutrals or supplied from the Solar Wind (SW). This study is dedicated to an in-depth investigation of the pitch angle distrib.tion of suprathermal electrons at two representative energies, 19−55 eV and 124−356 eV, using the extensive measurements made b. the Solar Wind Electron Analyzer on b.ard the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution. Throughout the study, we focus on the overall degree of anisotropy, defined as the standard deviation of suprathermal electron intensity among different directions which is normalized b. the mean omni-directional intensity. The availab.e data reveal the following characteristics: (1) In general, low energy electrons are more isotropic than high energy electrons, and dayside electrons are more isotropic than nightside electrons;(2) On the dayside, the anisotropy increases with increasing altitude at low energies b.t remains roughly constant at high energies, whereas on the nightside, the anisotropy decreases with increasing altitude at all energies;(3) Electrons tend to b. more isotropic in strongly magnetized regions than in weakly magnetized regions, especially on the nightside. These ob.ervations indicate that the anisotropy is a useful diagnostic of suprathermal electron transport, for which the conversion b.tween the parallel and perpendicular momenta as required b. the conservation of the first adiab.tic invariant, along with the atmospheric ab.orption at low altitudes, are two crucial factors modulating the ob.erved variation of the anisotropy. Our analysis also highlights the different roles on the ob.erved anisotropy exerted b. suprathermal electrons of different origins.

Assessment of Crop Yield in China Simulated b. Thirteen Glob.l Gridded Crop Models

Glob.l gridded crop models(GGCMs) have b.en b.oadly applied to assess the impacts of climate and environmental change and adaptation on agricultural production. China is a major grain producing country, b.t thus far only a few studies have assessed the performance of GGCMs in China, and these studies mainly focused on the average and interannual variab.lity of national and regional yields. Here, a systematic national-and provincial-scale evaluation of the simulations b.13 GGCMs [12 from the GGCM Intercomparison(GGCMI) project, phase 1, and CLM5-crop] of the yields of four crops(wheat, maize, rice, and soyb.an) in China during 1980–2009 was carried out through comparison with crop yield statistics collected from the National b.reau of Statistics of China. Results showed that GGCMI models generally underestimate the national yield of rice b.t overestimate it for the other three crops, while CLM5-crop can reproduce the national yields of wheat, maize, and rice well. Most GGCMs struggle to simulate the spatial patterns of crop yields. In terms of temporal variab.lity, GGCMI models generally fail to capture the ob.erved significant increases, b.t some can skillfully simulate the interannual variab.lity. Conversely, CLM5-crop can represent the increases in wheat, maize, and rice, b.t works less well in simulating the interannual variab.lity. At least one model can skillfully reproduce the temporal variab.lity of yields in the top-10 producing provinces in China, alb.it with a few exceptions. This study, for the first time, provides a complete picture of GGCM performance in China, which is important for GGCM development and understanding the reliab.lity and uncertainty of national-and provincial-scale crop yield prediction in China.

Magneto-optical traps (MOTs) composed of magnetic fields and light fields have b.en widely utilized to cool andconfine microscopic particles. Practical technology applications require miniaturized MOTs. The advancement of planaroptics has promoted the development of compact MOTs. In this article, we review the development of compact MOTs b.sedon planar optics. First, we introduce the standardMOTs. We then introduce the gratingMOTs with micron structures, whichhave b.en used to b.ild cold atomic clocks, cold atomic interferometers, and ultra-cold sources. Further, we introducethe integrated MOTs b.sed on nano-scale metasurfaces. These new compact MOTs greatly reduce volume and powerconsumption, and provide new opportunities for fundamental research and practical applications.
