YODA-HSP90 Module Regulates Phosphorylation-Dependent Inactivation of SPEECHLESS to Control Stomatal Development under Acute Heat Stress in Arabidopsis

Stomatal ontogenesis,patterning,and function are hallmarks of environmental plant adaptation,especially to conditions limiting plant growth,such as elevated temperatures and reduced water availability.The specification and distribution of a stomatal cell lineage and its terminal differentiation into guard cells require a master regulatory protein phosphorylation cascade involving the YODA mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase.YODA signaling results in the activation of MITOGEN-ACTIVATED PROTEIN KINASEs(MPK3 and MPK6),which regulate transcription factors,including SPEECHLESS(SPCH).Here,we report that acute heat stress affects the phosphorylation and deactivation of SPCH and modulates stomatal density.By using complem entary molecular,genetic,biochemical,and cell biology approaches,we provide solid evidence that HEAT SHOCK PROTEINS 90(HSP90s)play a crucial role in transducing heat-stress response through the YODA cascade.Genetic studies revealed that YODA and HSP90.1 are epistatic,and they likely function linearly in the same developmental pathway regulating stomata formation.HSP90s interact with YODA,affectits cellular polarization,and modulate the phosphorylation of downstream targets,such as MPK6 and SPCH,under both normal and heat-stress conditions.Thus,HSP90-mediated specification and differentiation of the stomatal cell lineage couples stomatal development to environmental cues,providing an adaptive heat stress response mechanism in plants.

Transfer of Heavy Metal Contaminants from Animal Feed to Animal Products

Study was conducted to assess the possible transfer of heavy metals from livestock feeds to animal products. In experiment-1, samples (n = 503) collected from conventional farms in Central Greece were analysed for heavy metal Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb), Nickel (Ni) and Chromium (Cr) contents in muscle tissues, livers, kidneys, excremental and basic mixtures in livestock such as cows and sheep. Results showed that transfer of heavy metal contaminants from feed to animal products fluctuated below the permissible risk levels. In experiment 2, samples (n = 440) of feedstuffs used in different feeding regimens and seasons at different livestock farms [sheep (n = 140), dairy cows (n = 180), pigs (n = 120)] were collected. Results showed that relatively high concentration of Cu in the excrements of pigs (155 ± 9.13) and Zn in the excrements of sheep (144.56 ± 5.78) are explained by the use of Cu in the diet of developing piglets and sheep. Ovine showed higher concentration of Ni, Cr, and Pb in their excrements, while, the concentration of heavy metals in forages was under the allowed range to the EU legislation.

Prevalence of Diabetes and Dyslipidemia Patterns amongst Hypertensive Patients in a Tertiary Cardiac Centre in Kathmandu, Nepal

Background: Dyslipidemia and hypertension are independent cardiovascular risk factors that are linked by insulin resistance and they require follow-up and more aggressive therapeutic strategies. Hence, the present study was done to study the prevalence of Diabetes and Dyslipidemia patterns in hypertensive patients. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was done on patients with hypertension for duration of one year, i.e. from Feb 2022 to January 2023. A total of 726 hypertensive Patients were included. All calculations and statistical analyses were processed by SPSS 25.0. Results: A Total of 726 patients with a history of hypertension were included;the average age was 55, with 24.2% of patients belonging to the age group 51 - 60;55.8% were males and 44.2% were females. In the present study, the prevalence of diabetes was 29.06% and 35.5% of patients in the prediabetic stage. The most frequent dyslipidaemic form was reduced HDL, seen in 96.1% and 94% of new and old respectively;followed by elevated LDL, 86% and 48.2% in new and old respectively. It was followed by elevated TG level and Total cholesterol levels. Conclusion: There was a high prevalence of diabetes, pre-diabetes as well as dyslipidemia in hypertensive patients.
