Psychiatric outcomes in outpatients affected by long COVID:A link between mental health and persistence of olfactory complaint

BACKGROUND Anosmia was one of the main symptoms of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).A psychiatric history(i.e.,depression)may be an independent contributor to the risk of COVID-19 diagnosis,and COVID-19 survivors appear to have an increased risk of neuropsychiatric sequelae(bidirectional association).AIM To compare the rate of psychiatric disorder among post-COVID patients without anosmia vs patients with persistent olfactory *** We conducted a prospective case control study from March 2020 to May *** recruited at the ENT department of Nice University Hospital had a subjective olfactory complaint(visual analogue scale)for over 6 wk and a molecular or CT-proven severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 diagnosis confirmed by ***-COVID patients without persistent olfactory disorders were recruited at the university hospital infectiology *** medical histories were collected by a psychiatrist during the *** Thirty-four patients with post-COVID-19 olfactory complaints were included in the first group of the *** percent of the patients were female(n=17).The group’s mean age was 40.5±12.9 *** control group included 32 participants,of which 34.4%were female(n=11),and had a mean age of 61.2±12.2 *** rate of psychiatric disorder among post-COVID patients with olfactory complaints was significatively higher(41.7%)than among patients without(18.8%)(χ2=5.9,P=0.015).CONCLUSION The presence of a psychiatric history may constitute a potential risk factor for the development of long COVID due to persistent *** therefore seems important to establish reinforced health monitoring after a COVID 19 infection in at-risk *** prospective,translational,and collaborative studies are needed to extrapolate these results to the general population.

水电开发导致河岸生境破碎化程度加剧和水库沉积物截留问题日益突出,而目前关于河道型水库有机质(OM)溯源及分布特征的研究较少,进而造成OM在水库复杂环境介质中迁移机理尚不清楚。本研究将脂质生物标志物分析方法应用于大渡河瀑布沟水库表层沉积物,经过气相色谱-质谱法对沉积物OM脂质组分进行了分析,将其量化并分为自然、成岩、热源和污水标志物4种来源。结果表明:OM平均含量坝前(10.7%±4.8%)>坝后(7.3%±0.9%)>库中(6.7%±1.8%),说明水库对沉积物OM的截留有显著影响。可提取脂质组分主要来源于自然标志物(45.9%±13.9%),碳偏好指数、陆源/水生比和陆生与水生植物输入比显示OM主要来源于陆生高等植物,占自然定量分子的70.5%±9.1%。此外,坝前汉源城镇下游D6和D7点位人为标志物(44.6%±25.1%)分子明显比自然标志物(24.2%±3.7%)含量高,并进一步通过比例研究强调了污水标志物的贡献率较为突出(31.6%±12.8%),这与该地住宅区生活污水处理设施覆盖率较低相关,表明OM污染源组成变化与水库滞留效应的耦合作用有关。

Black Hole Singularities and Planetary Formation

The goal of this research is to explore the effects of black hole singularities. Methodology is to start with large objects like galaxies and continue to smaller objects within our solar neighbourhood. High-redshift observations from the James Webb Space Telescope reveal that distant galaxies and their central black holes formed shortly after the Big Bang. An innovation about the speed of light explains how supermassive black holes could have formed primordially. Predictions of Hawking radiation include the possibility of black holes contributing to the energy of stars such as the Sun. Black holes have also been suggested as a source of radiation and magnetic fields in giant planets. Observations of Enceladus raise the possibility that this moon and other objects near Saturn’s Rings contain small singularities. Extrapolations of this methodology indicate that black holes could exist within solar system bodies including planets. Extended discussion describes how their presence could explain mysteries of internal heat, planetary magnetic fields, and processes of solar system formation.

Evaluation and salivary biochemistry associations of sour-salty taste interaction

Taste interaction is a well-known phenomenon in sensory stodies,but how to quantify the magnitode of the effect of one tastant on other taste attribute(s)is still largely unsolved,let alone further explorations from a salivary biochemistry *** acquiring the individual taste threshold and evaluating the just noticeable difference(JND).this stody firstly established a quantitative method to assess the magnitude of taste interaction in a binary taste mixture by evaluating the concentration difference upon psychologically-comparable *** change of salty taste intensity(CSI)was therefore defined as the subtraction of JND using sour-salty taste stimulant from JND using pure salty taste stimulant,with a dimension of concentration in mmol/*** was then used to demonstrate how citric acid affected salty taste perception in a salty-sour binary taste mixture in 16 young and healthy *** of citric acid used in the binary taste mixtore were 0.***.0.09.0.***.0.24 and 0.40 mmolL,*** results showed that salty taste perception was enhanced(average CSI of 0.93 mmolL)when the citric acid concentration was low(at 0.05 and 0.09 mmolL).but with an increasing concentration of citric acid ranging from 0.14 to 0.40 mmol/L,this effect gradually turned from enhancement to suppression of salty taste perception(correspondingly a continoously decreasing CSI all the way down to an average of-2.94 mumol/L).It was also found that cystatin SN concentration in participants'unstimulated saliva samples was significantly negatively correlated with salty taste threshold(with and without the presence of citric acid),and it was one of the most significant factors affecting CSI,s shown in multiple regression *** anhydrase VI concentration in participants'unstimulated saliva sanples was also found to be significantly negatively correlated with salty taste recognition(with and without presence of citric acid).but it did not pose signific

The Substructure of Elementary Particles Demonstrated by the I-Theory

Present studies in physics assume that elementary particles are the building blocks of all matter, and that they are zero-dimensional objects which do not occupy space. The new I-Theory predicts that elementary particles do indeed have a substructure, three dimensions, and occupy space, being composed of fundamental particles called I-particles. In this article we identify the substructural pattern of elementary particles and define the quanta of energy that form each elementary particle. We demonstrate that the substructure comprises two classes of quanta which we call “attraction quanta” and “repulsion quanta”. We create a model that defines the rest-mass energy of each elementary particle and can predict new particles. Lastly, in order to incorporate this knowledge into the contemporary models of science, a revised periodic table is proposed.

Air purifier or fresh air system? A comparison of energy consumption and cost in urban China residential buildings

Chinese urban residential buildings face serious indoor air quality problems. Air purification systems(e.g., air purifiers, fresh air systems) that supply fresh air or purify indoor air are widely used in residential buildings to improve indoor air *** the challenges of energy conservation and emission reduction, it is urgent to guide residents on choosing appropriate air purification systems. The key problem is how to identify the best air purification system with the lowest energy consumption or operating cost. Comparisons of air purification systems have rarely been conducted on the premise that they should deliver air such that the main indoor pollutant concentrations all meet air quality standards. Also ignored in comparisons are the increased filtration resistance caused by dust accumulation on the filter and the cost of filter replacement. In this study, we propose a method to compare residential air purification systems based on energy consumption and total cost, and we provide methods to select air purification systems in China's different climatic regions. We used a standard two-person bedroom as the example, and determined the most suitable(minimum cost or energy consumption) air purification systems for the capital cities of the provinces in Chinese mainland.

The risk of prostate cancer on incidental finding of an avid prostate uptake on 2-deoxy-2-[^(18)F]fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography for non-prostate cancer-related pathology:A single centre retrospective study

Objective:To review the risk of prostate cancer(PCa)in men with incidentally reported increased intraprostatic uptake at 2-deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-d-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography(18F-FDG PET/CT)ordered at Department of Urology,The Wesley Hospital,Brisbane,QLD,Australia for non-PCa related ***:Retrospective analysis of consecutive men between August 2014 and August 2019 presenting to a single institution for 18F-FDG PET/CT for non-prostate related conditions was *** were classified as benign,indeterminate,or malignant depending of the results of prostate-specific antigen(PSA),PSA velocity,biopsy histopathology,and three-Tesla(3 T)multiparametric MRI(mpMRI)Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score,or gallium-68-prostate-specific membrane antigen(68Ga-PSMA)PET/CT ***:Three percent(273/9122)of men demonstrated 18F-FDG avidity within the ***-five percent(231/273)were further investigated,including with PSA tests(227/231,98.3%),3 T mpMRI(68/231,29.4%),68Ga-PSMA PET/CT(33/231,14.3%),and prostate biopsy(57/231,24.7%).Results were considered benign in 130/231(56.3%),indeterminate in 31/231(13.4%),and malignant in 70/231(30.3%).PCa was identified in 51/57(89.5%)of the men who proceeded to biopsy,including 26/27(96.3%)men with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System scores 4-5 mpMRI and six men with a positive 68Ga-PSMA PET/*** most common Gleason score on biopsy was greater than or equal to 4+5(14/51,27.5%).68Ga-PSMA PET/CT was concordant with the 18F-FDG findings in 26/33(78.8%).All 13 men with a positive concordant 18F-FDG,3 T mpMRI,and 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT had PCa on *** was no statistically significant difference in the 18F-FDG maximum standardized uptake value between the benign or malignant groups(5.7 vs.6.1;p=0.580).Conclusion:In this study,after an incidental finding of an avid intraprostatic lesion on 18F-FDG PET/CT,70 of the 231 cases(30.3%;0.8%of the entire cohort)had results c
