Identification of biomarkers of human pancreatic adenocarcinomas by expression profiling and validation with gene expression analysis in endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration samples

AIM： To compare gene expression profiles of pancreatic adenocarcinoma tissue specimens, human pancreatic and colon adenocarcinoma and leukemia cell lines and normal pancreas samples in order to distinguish differentially expressed genes and to validate the differential expression of a subset of genes by quantitative real-time RT-PcR （RT-QPcR） in endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration （EUs-guided FNA） ***： commercially dedicated cancer cDNA macroarrays （Atlas Human cancer 1.2） containing 1176 genes were used. Different statistical approaches （hierarchical clustering, principal component analysis （PcA） and sAM） were used to analyze the expression data. RT-QPcR and immunohistochemical studies were used for validation of ***： RT-QPcR validated the increased expression of LcN2 （lipocalin 2） and for the first time PLAT （tissue-type plasminogen activator or tPA） in malignant pancreas as compared with normal pancreas. Immunohistochemical analysis confirmed the increased expression of LcN2 protein localized in epithelial cells of ducts invaded by carcinoma. The analysis of PLAT and LcN2 transcripts in 12 samples obtained through EUs-guided FNA from patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma showed significantly increased expression levels in comparison with those found in normal tissues, indicating that a sufficient amount of high quality RNA can be obtained with this ***： Expression profiling is a useful method to identify biomarkers and potential target genes. Molecular analysis of EUs-guided FNA samples in pancreatic cancer appears as a valuable strategy for the diagnosis of pancreatic adenocarcinomas.

In most eusocial insects,the division of labor results in relatively few individuals foraging for the entire ***,the survival of the colony depends on its efficiency in meeting the nutritional needs of all its ***,we characterize the network topology of a eusocial insect to understand the role and centrality of each caste in this network during the process of food *** constructed trophallaxis networks from 34 food-exchange experiments in black garden ants(Lasius niger).We tested the influence of brood and colony size on(i)global indices at the network level(i.e.,efficiency,resilience,centralization,and modularity)and(ii)individual values(i.e.,degree,strength,betweenness,and the clustering coefficient).Network resilience,the ratio between global efficiency and centralization,was stable with colony size but increased in the presence of broods,presumably in response to the nutritional needs of *** metrics highlighted the major role of foragers in food *** addition,a hierarchical clustering analysis suggested that some domestics acted as intermediaries between foragers and other *** appeared to be hierarchical rather than random or centralized exclusively around ***,our results suggested that networks emerging from social insect interactions can improve group performance and thus colony fitness.

William R. Downs, Ⅲ, known as Dong Weilin to many friends, died a relatively young man ( 1950 ～ 2002) at the height of his career in *** career began at the Museum of Northern Arizona in 1975. One of his early tasks was the preparation of Triassic cynodonts from Antarctica for Edwin ***, then curator Emeritus of the American Museum of Natural History and curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Museum of Northern Arizona (colbert and Kitching, 1977). Will prepared the Early Jurassic armored ornithischian scutellosaurus for colbert (1981), and he collected and prepared a skull of Pentaceratops from the cretaceous of the san Juan Basin (Rowe et al., 1981 ).One of his early ventures into screen-washing was near the Pentaceratops site in the san Juan Basin (Flynn, 1986) where mammals were poorly represented. In the mid-1980' s, Will left the Museum of Northern Arizona to become affiliated with Northern Arizona University, also in Flagstaff. In addition, he was briefly employed to revamp the fossil preparation laboratories at southern Methodist University in Dallas, during which time he joined in excavations of a large series of small primitive ornithopods in Texas (Winkler et al.,1988). He maintained an office at the Bilby Research center, and then the Department of Geology,at Northern Arizona University until the time of his death

Fracture propagation under mixed-mode loading conditions prevails in many natural geological processes and deep engineering projects,while the corresponding numerical simulation is very challenging in rock mechanics,especially in 3D *** most previous studies,the complexity of 3D fracture geometry was over-simplified,and model III loading was often not *** this study,we propose to use an efficient stress-based sch€ollmann criterion combined with Displacement Discontinuity Method(DDM)to model 3D fracture propagation under arbitrary I+II+III mixed-mode loading conditions.A novel curve-smoothing algorithm is developed to smoothen the fracture front during propagation,which significantly enhances the model's ability in dealing with complex 3D fracture *** particular,we adopt two different solution schemes,namely staggered and monolithic,to simulate mode I fracture propagation in the case of hydraulic *** accuracy,efficiency and convergency of the two solution schemes are compared in *** research findings suggest that the degree of coupling between fracture aperture and fluid pressure in hydraulic fracturing lies somewhere between one-way and two-way,which favors the staggered solution *** further test our new model,we provide three additional numerical examples associated with 3D fracture propagation under various mixed-mode loading *** model shows excellent performance in efficiently locating the new fracture front and reliably capturing the complex 3D fracture *** study provides a generic algorithm to model high-fidelity 3D fracture propagation without simplifying fracture geometry or loading conditions,making it widely applicable to fracture-propagation-related problems.

selection of appropriate organic additives for enhancing Zn and cd phytoextraction by hyperaccumulators

chelant-enhanced phytoextraction is one of the most promising technologies to remove heavy metals from soil. The key of the technology is to choose suitable additives in combination with a suitable plant. In the present study, laboratory batch experiment of metal solubilization, cress seeds germination were undertaken to investigate the metal-mobilizing capability and the phytotoxicity of organic additives, including ethylene diamine triacetic acid （EDTA）, citric acid, acetic acid, oxalic acid, glutamine and monosodium glutamate waste liquid （MGWL） from food industry. Experiments in pots were carried out to study the effects of the additives on Zn and cd phytoextraction. Furthermore, a leaching experiment with lysimeter was performed to evaluate the environmental risks of additive-induced leaching to underground water. The results showed that EDTA had a strong mobilizing ability for Zn and cd, followed by mixed reagent （MR） and MGWL. MGWL and acetic acid at 5 mmol equivalent per liter resulted in seed germination index less than 2%. Experiments in pots verified the phytotoxicity of acetic acid and MGWL. Addition of the mixed reagent at 6--10 mmol/kg significantly increased Zn phytoextraction by Thlaspi caerulescens. The same for EDTA and the mixed reagent at 10 mmol/kg by sedum dfredii. But only mixed reagents could significantly increase cd phytoextraction by the studied hyperaccumulators. This suggested that the strong chelant was not always the good agent to enhance phytoextraction. s. alfredii combined with 2--10 mmol/kg soil MR was preferred for phytoremediation of cd/Zn contaminated soils in southern china, this could result in high phytoextraction of cd/Zn and reduce the leaching risk to underground water than EDTA assisted phytoextration.

Recently,multivalent aqueous calcium-ion batteries(cIBs)have attracted considerable attention as a possible alternative to Li-ion ***,traditional ca-ion storage materials show either limited rate capabilities and poor cycle life or insufficient specific ***,we tackle these limitations by exploring materials having a large interlayer distance to achieve decent specific capacities and one-dimensional architecture with adequate ca-ion passages that enable rapid reversible(de)intercalation *** this work,we report the high-yield,rapid,and low-cost synthesis of 1D metal oxides MV_(3)O_(8)(M=Li,K),caV_(2)O_(6),and caV_(6)O_(16)·7H_(2)O(cVO)via a molten salt ***,using 1D cVO as electrode materials,we show high capacity 205 mA h g^(-1),long cycle life(>97%capacity retention after 200 cycles at 3.0 c),and high-rate performance(117 mA h g^(-1) at 12 c)for ca-ion(de)*** work represents a step forward for the development of the molten salt method to synthesize nanomaterials and to help pave the way for the future growth of ca-ion batteries.
